Never mind that these idiots knew this thing was traveling across the USA and weren’t planning on doing shit until people in Montana started seeing it and posted it on the internet.

And a missile ??? How many thousands of dollars for the cheapest missile in the US arsenal?

One or two bursts of 30mm would have been much more fiscally responsible…

When this first popped up what came to mind was say we get us a "weather balloon" air it up and try to send it off.

How long does anyone think it would be allowed to fly and how long before a whole bunch of government types showed up at my door wanting to arrest me.

A general was saying that cannon fire would punch relatively small holes, meaning a slow, gradual descent, vs. an immediate shoot-down that would help recovery.

EDIT: Reported to be an AIM-9x missile. That's what, a $400K shot? Damn, ammo's gotten expensive! WHIOTV7

Never mind! This has all been a big misunderstanding as the balloon was an early Valentine's present for Eric Swalwell Big Grin

Weather Balloon:
I am sad to see you are no longer with us. Since you seemed to have an interest the US Military, your flight path should have passed over places like Yorktown. Lexington / Concord. Gettysburg. Antietam. Petersburg. In those places, thousands of Americans gave up their lives for an ideal called freedom. Maybe there is a lesson for the Chinese people in those events.

It’s been downed off the Carolina coast.

Remember the SR-71 Blackbird? We don’t need no steenkin’ balloon! We zip over at 80,000+ feet taking photos at Mach 3.2 and lay down sonic booms to help make our point!

Chinese Baffoon in the White House allowed the Chinese Balloon to acquire and transmit the intelligence back to China before shooting it down.

What a shit show.

Biden Says He’ll Shoot Down Chinese Spy Balloon As Soon As He’s Done Letting It Spy
U.S.

Feb 3, 2023 · BabylonBee.com

U.S. — Americans are up in arms after a Chinese high-altitude spy balloon was seen hovering over sensitive nuclear sites in Montana. Biden was quick to quell fears, vowing to shoot down the hostile balloon as soon as he's done letting it spy.

"Listen folks, that balloon came a long way to do a little spyin'," said Biden in a meeting with military leaders. "Would be a shame to shoot the poor thing down before it even gets a chance to take some pictures! I remember when me and the boys used to spy on Suzie Anne McGillicutty through her bedroom window after a long day of protesting the civil rights movement. It's all in good fun, folks!"

According to anonymous sources, several Pentagon officials asked how soon they would be able to knock the balloon out of the sky, insisting it was a matter of national security.

"Come on, man! I'll let you shoot it down. Just let me check to make sure the Chinese have what they need and that the million-dollar check for Hunter's painting came through from my buddy Xi. Then, have at it, boys!"

At publishing time, Eric Swalwell had been seen approaching the spy balloon and asking for its number.

8 days from the time the balloon was reportedly first detected until it crossed the entire continent and the decision was made to shoot it down.

8 days.

If the Biden regime took this long to make this decision I wonder, if an invasion fleet was spotted on the horizon or a spread of incoming ICBMs was detected, I wonder just how long it would take him to make a decision of even greater consequence.

Not that I'm surprised by Biden's indecisiveness, but this incident only adds to the reasons no one should have confidence in his ability to do the right thing or in keeping the US safe.

Biden claims that he gave the order to shoot it down on Wednesday when it was safe for civilians and the military confirmed that. He should have said shoot it down now while it’s over the least populated area of the country as soon as you can get someone up there. Three more days of spying and projecting weakness just emboldens the Chinese government even more.

I read an article about Canadian F/A-18s expending 1000 rounds of 20mm years ago trying to shoot down a real weather balloon. It didn’t work. Aside from the speed different making aiming difficult, it would take quite a while for the balloon to deflate from a bunch of small holes.

There isn’t a bunch of helium in that balloon, and it’s all in the top, so putting a bunch of small holes in the side won’t do much. Also, at altitude, there isn’t much pressure differential between the inside of the balloon and the outside, so it’s not going to leak that fast.
