I'd also note y'all's bet is kind of vague?

Are you betting whether or not Putin will expand his ambitions into a NATO signatory or whether or not NATO will actually go to war with Russia if he does?

(TBH: I doubt he'll go that far, but I don't see as there's much NATO can do about it should he choose to do so. See posts in the "Is that idiot Biden gonna..." thread: Re: "Second Russo-Ukraine War D+O Quicklook" and "Thanks to the West's environmentalists...")

Somewhat ironically, if we committed to defend Ukraine, we'd be in no position to defend Taiwan. The fact that we haven't done the former, means we are still in the position to do the latter. The Chinese know this.

We did both in WW2. (with Allied support) I doubt we could pull that off today.

Except with our pathetically weak and incompetent leadership, we won't do either.

The Chinese also know this.

The Russians helped with Europe in that war.

Let's not count out Ukraine yet. Putin may end up with a long drawn out insurgency. Unless Kramer had the right of it.

This might be more true than we can know.

Russia and the West, playing a game, and the guy that was just minding his own business takes insult at the game, and flips the board.

Russian troops have taken control of Chernobyl.

This links some background why: https://twitter.com/RealGeorge.../1496871975175831564

'We reported Felix Sater was acting on behalf of Kolomoisky was stockpiling bioweapons at the old Chernobyl site three weeks ago. If they were stockpiling for the Bosporus Backchannel assault, Putin had no choice. Be interesting to see if those bios moved to air bases recently.'

Yes, but the Germans, Italians and Hungarians didn't. Things change.

True but the bastards got the Baltic countries as well as half of Germany. They have not changed a bit. The Yalta conference was a huge concession to Stalin.

Putin's conditions on Ukraine's surrender:

https://twitter.com/ManilaChan...HHwWksC9-c3NmsYpAAAA

"Kremlin issues 2 demands to Ukraine:
1)Per Minsk2 agreement, disarm
2)Remain neutral; no joining #NATO
No demands for #VolodymyrZelensky to step down. No demand for #ukraine to join Russian Federation. #Putin says incursion can end now if terms are met."

No demand for Zelensky to step down. Hmm. That leaves the Ukrainian government functional.

Define "disarm" as that conversation online in other social media is discussing the US Biowarfare labs. I don't think Putin is much concerned with the traditional arms of war used by Ukraine, but bioweapons are obviously a concern to us all.

The twitter account who reported the existence of the bio labs has been taken down. Typical reaction when it's true.

Wanna bet it is more than 12 months? I'd bet it is more than 5 years, but who wants to wait that long to collect?

But why would China wait that long even going as long as 5 years?

China sees what is happening, some discussions already occurred between Putin and Jinping during the recent Olympics. China has a "stronger" argument in that it never let go of Taiwan as an independent country in its view.

They'll gauge the response to Russia and as soon as it's clear that Russia only has to weather through economic sanctions with the understanding that Putin can also make life painful to the rest of the world via its oil, then China could very well think no time like the present to strike while the iron is hot.

Doing it at the same time the world is dealing with Russia dilutes the attention that will be given to China. And China has the same if not more leverage against the world in terms of it being an integral part of the world's supply chain.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Well stated. Of course (that’s why he wouldn’t take a real wager)

The biggest distraction of all is us not paying attention to our domestic issues.

Canada just went GDC, and we’ve yet to see how that plays out fully. We’ve imported another 3 to 4,000,000 people in the past 12 months without knowing a anything about them.

I don’t need to list all the domestic issues… We all live them.
