Bunch of savages in this town |
I buy new cars for my wife, mainly because we use them for traveling, and I like the warranty for her. I buy low mileage used cars, and drive them until the cost of ownership exceeds the enjoyment. Current ride is a 2009 Subaru Legacy with 65,000 miles on it. I'll have it for a while. Bought an '83 Toyota Tercel in school for $300, with 90,000 miles on it. Through my own stupidity, I blew it up at 200,000. I miss that car. What a piece of shit, but it kept going, and going... ----------------- I apologize now...

Wife had a Buick Skylark from 1970 to 1985, Pontiac 6000 STE from 1985 till 2004. She currently drives a Hunday (sp?) Tucson 2006 to present. My longest is current Toyota Highlander 2002 to present. Previously drove Pontiac Grand Prix STE 1990 to 2002. We generally drive vehicles 10 or more years.

20 years and counting until I die. Got my 1992 Mustang when I was 15, still have it, will never part with it. Also have my 1969 Pontiac GTO I got a year or so after that. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I keep vehicles an average of 6 years. But I have had my 2009 Toyota Corolla 10 calendar years. It was manufactured in May of 2008 and I bought in in June of that year. It currently has 142,000 miles.

Plowing straight ahead come what may |
The longest for me was a 1995 F-150 4WD I ordered and picked up in November of 1994...I kept it (with no real issues except for the replacement of a starter and fuel pump along with routine maintenance items) for 14 years when I sold it with over 286,000 miles in October of 2008...I will say it was one of the toughest and dependable vehicles I have ever owned. The Toyota Tacoma I replaced it with has been great too ******************************************************** "we've gotta roll with the punches, learn to play all of our hunches Making the best of what ever comes our way Forget that blind ambition and learn to trust your intuition Plowing straight ahead come what may And theres a cowboy in the jungle" Jimmy Buffet

Bought a 1997 Toyota Corolla DX in 2000 to replace my dead 1986 Mazda RX-7 GXL. After 183,000+ miles, I'm still driving it, though I will admit I put less than 400 miles per month on it now, as it's my "airport" car. "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. Muzzle flash aficionado |
I bought a 1986 Ford Mustang GT in 1986 and drove it as my Daily Driver for 20 years; some months after buying a 2006 Mustang GT (in 2006) as my new DD, I sold the 1986 car--it had 182,000 miles. I also currently own a 1966 Mustang notchback that was rebuilt from pieces back in the 1990s for me; I'll have to look up the Title for it to be sure just when I bought and registered it, but I've also had it for around 20 years. My average time to drive a primary DD car is about 9 years. I don't like to change cars all that often. flashguy Texan by choice, not accident of birth

1969 Camaro. Bought it in 1995 and still have it. Probably put less than a thousand miles on it the past 23 years. ______________________________________________ "Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever." - Karen Davison "Man can measure the values of his own soul in the look of the eyes of an animal he's helped" - Author Unkown

Bought my new Ford Excursion in late 2004 and it’s still with me. About 165,000 miles on the V10 motor and still going strong. Chuck Life's tough...tougher if you're stupid (AKA "cwr" on SIGforum [email account issues])

1995 Toyota T100 ExtraCab DX pickup - manual 5 speed. 130,000 miles. Not much trouble. Still going strong - primarily a local driver now. Body looks somewhat bad - emblems falling off - glue. Paint still good, engine - the 190HP V6 still doesn't burn any oil. Little bit of rust on undercarriage. He he he. Finally changed brake fluid - 1st time in 23 years. Front brake pads at 100,000. Rear drum linings still good. Simple to work on, simple to fix - why would I trade? I'll keep it until it really, really dies. My father-in-law gave me a 2004 Tundra ExtraCab 4 years ago. 40,000 miles now. Again, why would I trade? Comfortable, quiet and somewhat of a beast compared to the T100. Wife's 2014 Subie Forester 140,000 miles - a few more issues than the Toys. Drives great, mileage not so great for the HP. Third of three Foresters - the other 2, ten+ years. I won't trade unless it becomes a maintenance nightmare. We don't buy cars very often. drendean

Current vehicle is a 2004 VW Golf I bought from a coworker who bought it new. It had 57k miles when I bought it in 2010 and I just hit 237k miles. It’s the GLS 2.0 5-speed and still has the original clutch. "Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can't Lose."

1997 F-150 4x4 I bought new in September 1996 and have had ever since. "Old Blue" was my daily driver until November of 2016 when I bought a 2013 F-150 Lariat. The '97 is my "stuff hauler" and hunting truck now. No AC anymore and the bumper and grill shows evidence of a close encounter with a deer a few years ago, but at 201,000+ miles it still runs strong.

1996 Ranger, bought new. 22 years so far. Dad has a 1986 F150, bought new. It’s a farm truck only now....runs and sounds like a Sopwith Camel going across the field, about 90k hard miles. Dad is tough on gear. -- I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. JALLEN 10/18/18 https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...610094844#7610094844
