All about the same 4-6 years. Every car I owned prior to my current car was made in the 80's. All purchased often because it was the only thing I could afford, but mostly because I can fix them myself. Current car, first new car purchase is current one. Decided I was sick of fixing cars myself. 6.4 years only now, 24,000 mi on the ODO. I have for most of my working life had a company vehicle, so probably well under 100,000 miles driven in a car owned by me lifetime. Only one was sold as scrap, it ran with no problems, as did every other car I have ever owned. Problem with that one was ex-wife wrecked it past value to repair it. She managed to fuck up front headlight assemblies, and every single corner marker, break light, and turn signal in one wreck. That's less likely than winning the $500,000,000 powerball tonight. 1991 ford Festiva. Sold to neighbor in 2010, who sold another family member. Still see it around town. Probably getting tough to find tires for the 12" wheels. Did you come from behind that rock, or from under it? |
20 years. I still have a 1998 Ford Explorer Sport that I bought new. Overall it’s been a very reliable vehicle. My wife has been the primary driver for the last 14 years but I’m the one that wrenches on it. "Every time you think you weaken the nation" Moe Howard

Ha. Same here. 354,000 on the clock and still going strong. Never garaged. Being in the street all these years, she's not purty anymore. Might give her a new coat of powder next year if I decide to keep her for few more years.

11 years on my old truck (07 Silverado QC)I just traded in on a new Ram. Nothing wrong with it mechanically but it was getting small for the family. Love the new truck and hopefully I get many more years out of it.

What did you buy? I had hell with my new profilers, first i had to go shaft to get the rocker geometry correct then i had to helicoil every intake bolt hole because none of them would even hold 10ft lbs with studs. The heat treat guy must have been having a bad day.

I bought my 1994 F-150 4x4 in April 1995 (New, it had 22 miles on it. Sat at a dealer because it was a standard cab, and back then everyone wanted a crew cab. Sticker was 23,000, I paid 17,000). Still have it 23 years later, 85,000 miles on it. Insurance totaled it after I slid on some ice and destroyed an Explorer Sport-Track. I replaced the hood, and nearly everything forward of the radiator mount, and kept it. I also have my 2002 Escort ZX-2 that I bought new. It has 194,000 miles on it. Replaced: 1 Water pump 2 Alternators 1 timing belt 1 thermostat 1 clutch (at 165,000 the throw out bearing went bad. Clutch plate still had about 50% material on it).

Bought a 1992 Chevy P/U in early 93 and sold it in 2017, 24 years. It only had 167,000 miles. The clear coat was gone and the paint was getting bad but the new owner drives it to work daily.
