State Dept Contradicts Biden, Says Vast Majority Of Interpreters & Visa-Eligible Afghans Were "Left Behind"

A stunning new exposé in The Wall Street Journal contradicts just about everything the American public has been told over the past week about the supposed "extraordinary success" of America's "largest airlift in history".

"The US left behind the majority of Afghan interpreters and others who applied for visas to flee Afghanistan, a senior State Department official said on Wednesday," according to the WSJ report, which emphasizes that "as many as 100,000 Afghans may be eligible for relocation" - but the vast majority of these were left behind.

Specifically the numbers relate to those local allies who qualified for the Special Immigrant Visa. The Pentagon as of last Friday said it up to that point it had been able to only get about 7,000 Special Immigrant Visa Afghans out.

But according to The Wall Street Journal:

Over 20,000 Afghans who had applied for the Special Immigrant Visa program remained in Afghanistan when Kabul fell to the Taliban on Aug. 15, according to advocacy groups and congressional officials.

Including their family members, as many as 100,000 Afghans may be eligible for relocation.

The anonymous State Department official was asked to estimate how many remain trapped inside the country despite their eligibility based on a number of special visa programs: "I would say it’s the majority of them," the official stated bluntly. "Just based on anecdotal information about the populations we were able to support."

"Everybody who lived it is haunted by the choices we had to make and by the people we were not able to help," the official added.

In the domino-effect of errors that plagued the last ten days of the evacuation operation, the thousands of Afghans crowding airport entrances often blocked the ability of others, including visa applicants and even Americans, from reaching US checkpoints. In other instances they were also blocked by the Taliban long before reaching the vicinity of the airport perimeter.

This despite "every credential we tried to provide electronically was immediately disseminated to the widest possible pool" - according to the US official. But clearly the prospect of physically getting to within close distance of a US checkpoint amid the mass crush at the airport proved elusive and disastrous for most.

All of the Americans left behind, it's their fault. They 'didn't want to get out'. Psaki and Biden keep repeating we "got most of the people who wanted to get out, out." Bullshit, there's no large numbers of people that want to stay in Afghanistan and be tortured or murdered. Stop insulting our intelligence, a six year old could figure out your lying. The insult of leaving our people behind is compounded by a factor of 10 by your lies.

I'd have a small amount of respect if you fell on the sword for your fuck ups. If Biden came out and said, "man I really fucked up here, but I'm going to spend every moment of my time in office to fix it, even if it's at the cost of my legacy." Then I'd hate you slightly less. You are a complete embarrassment to our country. Anyone who said Trump was an international embarrassment, enjoy eating your words. You traded mean tweets for this, you share in responsibility for his policies.

That move might not work out the way that he intends it to. I’m willing to bet that most of those Afghans probably don’t think very highly of Biden right now and wouldn’t go out of their way to help him out. I think they are likely astute enough to lump the democrats in the House and Senate with Biden. Even if they could vote, I don’t think they would be voting for the dems. I also think the presence of these folks is more likely to energize people to vote Republican as well. I don’t see this as a particularly supportive move for Biden and the dems.

I sure hope you are right Lt CHEG.
Historically immigration has added to Democrat voter rolls.
Maybe this time it could be different, but I have my doubts.

Although we do have exceptions.
I believe those from Cuba have a bit of a distain for the Democrat Communist ideologically.

My thoughts exactly.
The Vietnamese who escaped the fall of South Vietnam, overwhelmingly voted Republican upon their eligibility, they know who did them dirty. Orange County in Southern CA was a bulwark conservative area due in large part to the Vietnamese community that put roots down upon their arrival. There's still a number of strip malls and shopping centers where the South Vietnamese flag flies alongside the US flag.

The relocations to the swing states will work. The Afgani's won't have to vote - someone will fill out their mail-in ballot for them. The Dems already know this works.

60% are under 25. Many Afghans never significantly lived under taliban rule in the 1996 to 2001 time frame.

Biden’s Ugly Defense of His Afghan Failure
His lie-loaded speech caps off a debacle that could sink his party in 2022 and 2024.

By Karl Rove

Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s surrender in Afghanistan and the chaotic, inept and shameful way he effected the capitulation have left an indelible stain on his presidency. The distortions he used Tuesday to justify his actions compounded his historical blunder.

The president offered a false choice, saying he could either “follow the agreement of the previous administration . . . for people to get out or send in thousands of more troops and escalate the war.” Set aside the fact that Mr. Biden has reversed many of his predecessor’s policies. The president’s statement ignored the reality that American airpower and support assistance kept the Taliban in check in recent years with minimal risk to U.S. military personnel.

Mr. Biden bragged he had “ended 20 years of war in Afghanistan— the longest war in American history.” The war hasn’t ended, just the U.S. role, and even that probably only temporarily. Islamic jihadists are still waging the wider War on Terror. They’re celebrating our humiliation and making plans.

Mr. Biden also declared the only “vital national interest” the U.S. had was “to make sure Afghanistan can never be used again to launch an attack on our homeland.” That was, he claimed Tuesday, achieved when Osama bin Laden was killed in May 2011 leaving al Qaeda “decimated.”

Mr. Biden neglected to mention that he opposed the strike that killed bin Laden. He also left out the finding by the Defense Department that a reconstituted al Qaeda is working closely with the Taliban. With America’s exit, Afghanistan can once again become a sanctuary from which terrorists launch attacks against the West.

Mr. Biden also claimed Tuesday that “we were ready” when the “assumption that the Afghan government would be able to hold on beyond military drawdown turned out not to be accurate.” Pretending that what we’ve witnessed resulted from careful preparation may have been his most absurd statement. Plenty of reports have demonstrated how much the Biden administration was caught off guard, including believing it had the “luxury of time”—18 months or so—before the Afghan government might collapse.

Then there was Mr. Biden’s neat little rhetorical trick, identifying “ISIS-K terrorists” as “sworn enemies of the Taliban” while not identifying the Taliban as “sworn enemies of America,” which they are. Neither group may like each other but last week’s bombings should have reminded the president that doesn’t much matter when they have set their sights on us.

Mr. Biden also sketched “the threats of 2021 and tomorrow” that he worries about, namely Islamic terrorists in Syria, Iraq, the Arabian peninsula and “across Africa and Asia.” But there’s little sign he knows what to do or will commit the necessary resources. The president has explicitly said he’ll withdraw from Iraq this year. And, of course, a terrorist attack from al-Shabaab won’t make an assault from al Qaeda any more welcome.

Adding yet another classless touch, Mr. Biden blamed American citizens trapped in Afghanistan for ignoring “multiple warnings and offers to help them leave.” At least he’s rhetorically consistent, always claiming the buck stops with him as he blames everybody but himself for what’s gone wrong. This is petty and defensive.

The president finished his Tuesday address by promising a future that’s “safer” and “more secure.” We’ll see, but given his record over the past few weeks, Mr. Biden is probably among the least credible people on the planet to offer such assurances.

Even in our highly polarized atmosphere, where partisans stubbornly cling to their team colors, Mr. Biden’s approval ratings have plummeted. Since Aug. 1, his numbers in the RealClear- Politics average have dropped from 51.3% approve to 45.8% approve, and in the FiveThirtyEight.com average, from 51.5% approve to 46.7% approve.

These losses aren’t only because of Afghanistan. The president’s ratings are dropping on his handling of Covid, the economy, immigration and crime, too. I bet they get worse in the months ahead, despite attempted P.R. resets.

Mr. Biden’s shaky and listless performance has demolished the idea that he’ll be a credible contender in 2024. Also wrecked is any sense that Vice President Kamala Harris is an acceptable heir. The president’s failures and shortcomings are hers as well, while she’s failed to produce success in virtually every responsibility she has been given to handle.

But who could emerge to replace them? Both the White House and the aging apparatchiks of the Democratic Congressional leadership will discourage new faces from making their ambitions known. And Mr. Biden’s actions and Tuesday’s speech diminished what little good will he has among swing voters, which will also hurt Democrats if Republicans make 2022 about checks-and-balances. It ain’t a pretty picture.
