I’ve recently gotten “into” bourbon and now have the habit of checking the booze cabinet every time I go to the grocery store.

Today’s haul includes my first two bottles of Rye ever. My bottle of Buffalo Trace is at the halfway mark, so bought a bottle of Four Roses as a GP bourbon for mixed drinks once the BT is gone.

Just cracked open the Sazerac and gave it a try neat. Really liked it, very smooth with nice flavors and finish. Mixed with whiskey sour mix and Pepsi it is just as good (maybe even better?) than Straight Bourbon.

Can’t wait to try the Templeton and see how it compares.

Now that the obligatory California sparkling wine (not really champagne, as purists insist) is finished to mark my govt. retirement date: Hamm's. One of my faves from the college years. With The B-52s Greatest Hits playing on CD. Midnight toast will be Hamm's. Wink Gotta go; "Rock Lobster" just started playing!

A friend brought over a growler filled with a local 8% double oatmeal stout this afternoon. I'm finishing it off now. Delicious!

God bless America.

Late this afternoon, after replenishing/stacking my firewood for the third time this Winter, I decided I'd like to enjoy having a bourbon (or two) this evening but was out. Living close to nothing I drove some miles to the local gas station/farm store/Subway/convenience store/ liquor store. Choices were limited and overpriced but I left with a bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel which I'm just now pouring over a couple ice cubes. Smile

Had a little get together with some former coworkers to celebrate my retirement today. Got two very different alcohol based gifts.

The first a VERY good, homemade hooch derived from Everclear, peach, and cinnamon- DAYUM! surprisingly smooth and sweet sipping treat.

The other was a bottle of Whistle Pig 6 year 100% Rye. Also very good and smooth for 96+ proof. Very good day, finishing it off with the WP.
