I have about six on the way to replace the plastic disposable units.

Nothing with the replacements regarding that information but you can find more information at this link:

My extinguisher says 12 years

Yes. Submitted them on the website on 2 Nov and received one replacement on the 17th and the other on the 18th.

I also got my submission done November 2nd, but to this date have not received a replacement.

Got mine. Better than the original. They want the old one back and paid for that too. Hope they can recycle some of the thousands they are getting back, expensive mistake.

You can call Fedex and have them picked up.

sorry - yes, that should be the FedEx Store and not UPS. I am waiting until I get the last two, and will get them to pick up all 4 at once

Fedex won't pick mine up because the tracking on the return label is actually the tracking number that brought the replacement to me. I gave up after 20 minutes on hold with Kidde and sent an email that I'm waiting for a response to.

I submitted two units on November 4 and one more later that afternoon. I received one replacement yesterday and am waiting on the other two.

I submitted 3 replacements on November 4 and they trickled in one at a time Nov 27, 29 and Dec. 1. Fedex is supposed to pick up the three old units today, December 4. I still can't believe the costs involved in this recall for the units and the shipping both ways and one of mine on the recall was made in 1986. I don't notice GM replacing the parts on a 1986 car for free and don't know how they could be expected to. I hope the Kidde Company survives this.

What does Kiddie do if you never return the old one? Do they care? Will they bill me somehow?

It's just painful to have to stay home waiting for a pick-up.

Stay home waiting on a pickup? Nope. I put them on my front porch the morning pickup was scheduled for and went on about my business. I realize some can't do that but that's what I did.

You can specify where on your property they will be when Fedex comes to pick them up. For example- garage side door. We live in a neighborhood where thefts don't seem to occur in these situations. However I wouldn't want a Colt Python dropped at my front door.

Submitted my two right away and received this dandy new email:

"Thank you for participating in Kidde’s fire extinguisher replacement program. Customer safety is our priority and we are pleased by the strong response to our recall announcement. However, due to high demand the most comparable replacement for your unit is backordered.
We regret any inconvenience this has caused and are working diligently to fulfill your order as quickly as possible.
Thank you for your patience."

I hope nothing important catches fire. Smile

This worked for me. I left the package on the porch, and they picked it up when I was not even home.

done deal.

Five weeks now and nothing, so I e-mailed Kidde Customer Service tonight. Hoping I'll get an update Monday or Tuesday.
