Thanks for the heads up. Will check this evening.

Fortunately, I do not have a bad one in a Ferrari.

I bought a pair of 7-pounders from a Home Depot online sale about 2 years ago when we moved in. Just checked - they are Made in Mexico. The bad ones were made in Mebane, North Carolina (pronounced meh-bin).

Mine were made in Mexico as well but the model number is on the list.
Where did you read that only the US made ones were bad?

I probably have 10 extinguishers in various places.
The one at my home is affected and I'm sure others will be as well.

Thank you for the heads up!

if you have ever seen me cook (or talked with the Fire Chief in my old town back in NH), you would understand why I have one for the kitchen.

Thanks. The news is hitting the mainstream press during the last couple of hours. Not sure if it will be a "big" news item that goes viral.

The one I have in the kitchen is recalled, and I've got to check the others.

Tried to fill out the form and it's stuck in "processing" status, so they may be a bit overwhelmed with submissions.

I got far enough in to where they ask for ID info. Our extinguisher is so old, they do not even have info on it.

Off to Costco tomorrow to buy new ones.

Eek
The recall goes back to 1973. How long ago did you buy them?

For those that can't figure out the date code (like me), the color, the model number and serial number were enough for the website to process my submission. The model number and serial number were written exceedingly small in the lower right-hand corner of the label.

Thanks for the heads up, Black92LX.

Thanks, I have 8 of them.

They are supposed to be shipped to me in 15-20 days and they arrange return of the old ones.

Found it! Five model numbers in very tiny print, in the bottom left corner of the label.

I'll hit their website and try again.

Edit to add, got it done.

Took me forever to figure out which model number it wanted me to use.

On a side note, do companies have insurance policies for stuff like this?
Do they build recall costs into the price??

Their "*" search didn't function too well for me, either. The first of five model numbers turned out to be the correct one on my bottle.

Black,
Thank you. My white RESSP was involved. I too had problems with the date code. The bottom of the tank has a 12 on it and I know that I bought it in 2013. Entered it on the website and it responded that it was involved. So in process now.

Hey, unrelated question, did the add a couple of weeks ago to the FB Sears kit home site work?

Might be a good time to remind everyone to take out their dry chemical extinguishers once a year and whack them with a rubber mallet.
If they sit for years the contents can settle into a solid mass and become useless in the event of a fire.

Entered our kitchen unit, we got in 1991 on the website, and got the reply that it was included in the recall. Thanks for the notice!

I need to get a rubber mallet, even though this is the only use I'd get out of it. As cheap as fire extinguishers are, a mallet has to be cheaper, and much better than fighting a fire with your bare hands!
