Good post Black! I had two of the rascals. Perhaps I should buy a better brand in future.

Do I fill out the forms on the link and then Kidde tells me if they've been recalled?

We've got ten with plastic handles, all are in green, three of the real old ones (bought in 2003) are in the garage on "standby" until I figure out how to get rid of them. Or we have a BIG fire.

I made up a sheet with all the numbers they asked for, do I just put those on their www site?

Yes. Model, color and serial number is all you really need. It's fill-in-the-blank until you get to Model, then it's the drop-down on the right side of the blank.

Fill it in, they tell you if it's one of those to be replaced.

Thanks to the OP for providing the link. Of our ten, seven are getting replaced. I started on their www site, but if you have over five (or maybe it's six) you must call them. Jennifer took all the info, and I was smart enough to put the purchase date on each with a Sharpie.

The oldest ones (bought in 2001 and 2003) were not affected, but those are all in the garage as backups.

I'm having trouble imagining the logistics of one million boxes, some containing multiple fire extinguishers being readied for shipment in fifteen business days and a million is only a fraction of the affected units. I don't know how a company can financially survive this. It will be interesting to see how this really goes.

I am guessing this has been known to be coming for a bit and they have been packing boxes for some time and just need to print the shipping label.

I wonder about financials as well.
Do they have insurance policies for such things?

Yeah, either insurance policies,....or the sale of fire extinguishers is wayyyy more lucrative than any of us realized....

Mine was one of the recalled kitchen BC-rated models, so I registered it on the Kidde website. Received the replacement today, and it is a lot nicer (more metal parts).

Thanks for the heads-up. We had one that was affected as well. I'm surprised that Kidde hasn't been more vocal about this to the general public. Then again, with the shear number of extinguishers affected, I can see how they wouldn't want everyone contacting them all at the same time.

Once again, get your best, most up to date, and accurate info right here through SIGForum. Smile

On another note, if they just let you keep the old one, it may just turn out to be a White Christmas in my backyard this year. Big Grin Wink

Received my one replacement yesterday and it appears they sent me a rechargeable unit for my plastic handled disposable unit. I'm not complaining, just wondering if this is typical for the substitutions?

I received replacements for my two this week (two different models) and both appear to be the rechargeable units rather than the plastic disposable units.

Do they recommend a service interval/shelf life?

I have about six on the way to replace the plastic disposable units.

Did they come in the 3 weeks as first claimed?

For any aircraft owners in the group....I was sent an email by the FAA this week of a safety bulletin on the kidde cockpit fire extinguishers. An airworthiness directive is in the works, it's already a carded item on an annual inspection.

Check the extinguishers in your airplane...

I've got several of these around. I haven't checked any of them yet.

Thanks much for posting this recall notice. We live in the sticks, a few miles away from the volunteer fire department. 2 of our five extinguishers were on the recall.
