Well, if you feel that way, there's always the exclamation point button under my personal attack post and you can let the staff weigh in on it.

So do assholes, and people to mean to die when it's appropriate. She's one of those two, maybe both, depending on who you ask that knows her. I know a few that qualify. Being old shouldn't be a "you can say and do whatever the hell you want" pass.

Told cops where to go for over 29 years…

I think the recent incidents of water assaults in New York and the resulting avalanche of imitators clearly show better than words ever could that “little shit” should not just be overlooked. Once someone gets away with it and goes “viral” everyone else wants the attention as well and tries to one up the previous shit bag.

Respect authority, respect the law. If you want to challenge it, do it in the courtroom not the side of the road.

There is a whole lot of this country between the two coasts, and most of it does not put up with the shit that most folks near salt water seem to believe they are entitled to.

Actions, meet consequences. All on her, I am 1000% ok with the cops actions. If she is too old to get tased and put in the dirt, then she is too old to act the fool. She decided how that interaction was going to go, not the cop.

Little things like “equal protection” should mean something. Police shouldn’t be catering to color, age, occupation, or anything else that results in some folks being “more equal” than others.

What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

I’m in the The Officer Acted Appropriately group. Go ahead, think you’re above the law all you want. You’re not, and sometimes that point is made forcefully.

The other asks nicely, tells and then they make. Guess which the public and criminals respect?

I was taught this when I was a rookie cop:

1. Ask

2. Tell

3. Make

Jljones knows, and so do the other cops here. Law breakers understand one language.

And speaking it is never pretty.

I had maybe, maybe less than ten smooth arrests, in my eighteen career as a cop. Now, I worked in a shitshow town With a population of 20-30% unemployed( read that as, I gets a check) who felt they were entitled to everything. And not all of America is that way. I get it. But cops can only RESPOND to what they are presented with.

Ask, tell, make.....she chose her path. But unless you are willing to put on a uniform and gun belt and risk you life, don’t portend to tell them how to do the job.

In my opinion, the cop did nothing wrong, and she did a lot wrong. Score 1 for the good guys.

Ya it should just be signing to promise to appear in court on a certain date and time, or like you said, acknowledging receipt of the ticket. It's not an admission of guilt. I was told so on my one ticket in CA. I would assume it is the same thing in other states.

Cop had me sign the ticket, and confiscated my La. drivers license! I asked how I would rent a car at my destination? He said the rental company had a book which showed that La. confiscated your DL and accepted the signed ticket as proof of a valid DL. He was right!!! The car rental agent at my destination, did remind me that traffic violations were my responsibility, and if the rental car was towed or impounded that was my responsibility also, plus the cost of any expenses the rental company incurred. Do not know if this still occurs in N.O. or Orleans Parish, but back then it seemed as if every other car on the road had a cardboard sign in the rear window which said "La. Tag Applied For" though often almost illegible, or misspellings!!! So you had little choice but to sign the ticket!

Seems like they used to keep your DL here in La. I know they did back when I was hanging out with my LEO friends. Some people had a lot of staple holes in their DL's.

I stay out of N.O. unless I have to go for work and then get out of town fast.

Well my mama would be 100 years old now. She would have been telling him her brother used to be the Asst Chief of Baton Rouge PD and her brother in law was in charge of the first motorcycle squad in Baton Rouge and how her mama fed all the BRPD back then.
But she was raised right and would talk the officers head off BUT there wouldn't be any back talk or refusing to sign. He would be her friend before he went 10-8 off the call.

And I was raised the same way but I'm only been pulled over once in 52 years of driving. And I spent most of the stop teaching the officer about scanners and how they worked.

You are certainly welcome to your opinion. Would your mom have acted like the woman in the article?

I see absolutely no reason why women should be treated any differently than men in the same situations.

My brother is a retired cop and several of my friends are, or have been, cops. I sincerely doubt they would excuse that woman's actions or behavior on the basis that she was female.

Our laws are supposed to be impartially enforced.

We're all waiting.

After watching it again, there actually was a point where he could have de-escalated the situation.
When she said "Oh, just give me that and I'll sign it". And he said "We're beyond that now... "
He could have said "Now you're being reasonable. I thought I was going to have to take you to jail" and just let her sign the ticket.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

He placed her under arrest at 0:33, and she finally said "I'll sign it" at 1:04. By this point, the $80 tail light fine had been overshadowed, and she was actively resisting arrest.

'De-escalation' was no longer a point. Or, was he supposed to ignore her resisting arrest and just let her go?

Is there a provision in the law that indicates I can ignore lawful orders "because I don't want to be arrested?"

...still waiting for a reasonable alternative option to the officer's actions...

I'm not arguing that he acted inappropriately by telling her "We're beyond that now... " and going forward with the arrest. And once she rolled up the window and attempted to flee it was way too late.
