Beautiful Seamaster!
And the bracelet- your wrist is only going to be hairy for a few days, then somehow, magically… **POOF** no more hair! Wink

My grandson recently completed his probationary period as an officer with a local police department and prior to reaching that milestone; he obtained his degree in Criminal Justice, graduated from the Academy, and passed his FTO training period. Obviously this retired LEO is very proud of his achievements and I wanted to get him a "legacy" watch to mark the occasion, recall what he's learned from his formal training and what little I could contribute to what we hope will be a long and successful career.

I took him to the local authorized Rolex/Tudor dealer and though they didn't have a new Submariner in stock (Thank God!!!), he checked out their good selection of Tudor watches and the Black Bay 41 "Monochrome" ticked all his boxes! It's got just the right combination of tool/dress features so he can wear it in just about every situation (hopefully avoiding while on patrol!), the five link (Jubilee like) bracelet makes it just dressy enough, but it can still fly under the radar with shorts and a t-shirt. I like the relatively clean (two lines of lower text) dial and if this is a "one and done"/GADA mechanical watch for him I think it's a great choice.

Outstanding! And it's a Master Chronometer. Should be very accurate. That was my second place grail watch.

Ya can’t really go wrong with a Tudor Black Bay!
Beautiful watch!
Honestly, with all of Rolex’s marketing nonsense, I’d grab a Tudor before a Submariner. Im sure he’s going to love it! And it’s always going to be one of those “heirloom” pieces- something with a story to it. Something that he’s going to pass down to his kids/grandkids.

Tell him CONGRATS and to Stay Safe out there!

I had never heard of a Minute Repeater before today.

Here's an article from Strapcode on the Citizen Eco-Drive G900. Pretty cool!

That's a great watch. Personally I'd take that over a modern Submariner in a heartbeat and use the savings to buy a SCAR and a case of ammo.

I have a Tudor Black Bay GMT that gives my Speedmaster a run for its money as my favorite watch. It's easily my most accurate mechanical watch and gets a surprising amount of complements. I wasn't crazy about the Tudor Snowflake hands when I first saw them, but they've really grown on me.

I wore mine on duty all of last week, but I spend most of my time in an office these days.

One day, way down on my list of "Shit to get" is a Rolex Submariner, with date & Cyclops. Why? Just because I've always wanted one. Oh, it won't be new- Jomashop, GetBezel or Prestige Time... I'm not putting up with Rolex's marketing nonsense, but that's somewhere down the road.

My next acquisition is probably going to be a Tudor. I've been eying a Pelagos Lefty for a while now. I'm seeing them from $3K - $4K. I'm just waiting on another Overtime check or two, and checking to see my Ammunition situation (Sorry, Ammo takes precedence over watches Wink )

I'm just the opposite. If I were going to get a Submariner it would be the no date model. I have some kind of bizarre pathological hatred of the cyclops magnifier and prefer the cleaner dial. I'm definitely in the minority there though.

Copaup - you & I are in the same minority; not a fan of the cyclops. I too am a fan of the no date Sub, hope to add one in the not too distant future.

I'm with you guys. I've got a couple of 'em, and I tolerate 'em, but if I could switch out the crystal to a non-cyclops I'd do it.
(Not yet bold enough to tackle that job myself.)

God bless America.

I need the cyclops. I can't see the date on most of my stuff unless I have my cheaters on! Cool

Speaking of cyclops... I made a once in a lifetime watch trade in CA. Wife and I were visiting her cousin in N. Hollywood this past Sunday. I went for a walk down Hollywood Blvd. while the other 2 were going in and out of stores along the way. I am crossing the street when I spot a guy with a ’72 Cadillac with the trunk open. I walked about 50 feet down the side street to look at the car (my late uncle had one just like it) and saw what two other guys were looking at. Watches and jewelry. The guy who appeared to be the car’s owner said to me as I approached: “Is that an Omega Diver?” I said it was and he proceeded to tell me that he had been looking for one for almost 2 years like that and would I be interested in doing a trade. I said not really but what did you have in mind? He pulled out these two:

and said for $100 + my Seamaster he would trade me for the pair of Rolexes! I couldn’t dig out the c-note fast enough to get the deal done. So for my 10 year old 300M and a bit of cash I got these 2 near new Submariners!!! He even apoligized that he had left the factory boxes and papers at his home in Brentwood. I didn’t care!

My eyes are getting worse too. And it seems the dates are getting smaller...really! Big Grin
