2 days and lost a second, unbelievable. Better than some of my higher end watches.

Thanks to our fine membership on this forum posting the link to preorder one of these new titanium Helms I was lucky enough to get in on the first production run. I figured if I didn’t like it I could flip it easily but I am absolutely loving this watch. I actually didn’t expect to like this watch as it doesn’t have a date window and at glance it looks like a chunky, big tool watch. Oh boy was I surprised by how the titanium case and bracelet makes the watch nearly as light as my G-Shock.

I really like the lume on this thing!

I can’t get over how light the watch is! For such a large watch it really is surprising how comfy it is on my wrist. It’s been on my wrist since I got it and has sidelined my Christopher Ward C60 Chronograph which is not an easy feat to achieve. I am now MUCH more interested in titanium watches. Steinhart makes an Ocean One in titanium, a very thin GMT diver with a date window had intrigued me before but now it seems quite a bit more interesting.

You really need to fondle one of these watches to appreciate the quality Matt Cross puts into them at this price point.

I hate dealing with bracelets of any type, but I like my tool watches on bracelets. The Helm bracelets are the easiest to work with I have ever had the pleasure to experience. He could have specced pin and collar bracelets for these watches, but he chose to go whole hog and use screwed link fittings with top threaded screws.

Everything about these watches impress.

That watch looks bomb proof! Curious, how thick it is?

It’s IMO unnecessary thick but the titanium case and bracelet makes it as comfy as an 11-12mm thick watch. The thickness of it does make the chapter ring seem to match the bezel so aesthetically it works whilst on the wrist.

What a neat watch!

The chapter ring appears to be the same thickness as the bezel and balances out brilliantly.

What I love about Helm is that Matt doesn’t gouge you on accessories. I lost the bracelet on my Vanuatu and for $60 I was able to replace it.

I also love that Helm offers each bracelet style for all of their watches. Say you like the thick engineer style bracelet on the Vanuatu (22mm wide lugs) but you want to put it on your 20mm lug Komodo watch. Well you can actually do that because for a darn fair price (and zero wait list) you can order the Vanuatu’s style bracelet in in 20mm for the Komodo and the website makes this very easy to accomplish.

I wish more watch manufacturers realized having multiple bracelet designs AND the ability to interchange among the watch collection is a damn awesome thing to offer your customers.

Helm might not be easy to get but there are a lot of things the company is doing better than it’s competitors.

I’ll post up pics of my Komodo sporting a Vanuatu style bracelet soon. Cool

The little details are also something I love about this brand. The Helm “H” logo on my Khuraburi Ti appears to be luminescent and the orange tip on the second hand has orange lume paint. What a dang cool watch!

I'm trying to resist the auto rabbit hole.
The Monster & the Tag Senna pair in the classifieds are mighty tempting. A Senna has been on my wantlist for a long time.

I ordered a nylon nato (see above) and the rubber strap, that nylon strap is absolutely beautiful, super nice and the rubber is also top notch. Under #500 on the Miyako, can hardly wait.

RUN!!!!!!
RUN AWAY!!!!!
QUICKLY!!!!!!!

This thread, the Glock thread and the Bourbon thread are probably the more expensive threads on the S/F. Thankfully there's not a Motorcycle / Vintage Car thread!

As The Pontiff would say: "Buy The Man on the Moon! Omega Speedmaster Man on The Moon!"
Which are you considering? Hesalite or Sapphire Sandwich?

Yup, no Glocks & no bourbon in my house right now, but am up to 3 regular wear pieces.
Need to get a battery in my Movado & am surprised my Citizen F150 is still ticking along since I haven't worn it in a few weeks & it doesn't get a lot of light. Hasn't gone into sleep mode, and still has the correct time/date (satellite set).

My advice:

If you like having a surplus of money DO NOT dip your toe into the highly alluring, extremely addictive and endlessly exciting world of automatic mechanical watches. If you think Sig Sauer, Glock & HK firearms are addictive you’re in for an expensive surprise.

There are very few things on this planet as enjoyable to own as a fine automatic mechanical watch. Wink

Sure you can grill without an automatic mechanical Chronograph but it’s simply not nearly as fun. Big Grin

My Ball was feeling neglected so it’s been getting a lot of wrist time lately.

Shoevb is correct!! 10 points for Gryffindor!

This Ball Stormchaser chrono is as bright as a cellphone in the dark thanks to its Sixty six tritium tubes on the dial and hands. Eek

Knocked my Combat Sub off the bathroom counter the other day. It landed face-down. The next day, I discovered it was twenty five minutes slow. Upon further examination, it’s losing at least five minutes every twelve hours. I guess I gotta send it off to someone.

Awesome.

I have a Seiko Samurai that used to be perfect until like an idiot I took it tubing behind a boat and got punted off the tube at about 20+ mph. It also was unlucky enough to be on my wrist for a scooter crash or two… It’s been running frustratingly slow ever since.

Automatic watches don’t take kindly to harsh impacts. The Bond franchise had it right the first time when they originally gave Bond a quartz Seamaster. In his line of work Bond would be constantly getting his automatic Seamaster repaired…

Though I will say I’ve taken my Steinhart Ocean One GMT surfing a few times and it still keeps brilliant time so you don’t have to baby them but you can’t beat the snot out of em either.
