I agree that the start was a cluster but the race, once it got off, was one of the better ones we’ve seen this year.

Lots of different tire strategies and even teams splitting their own strategies showing that things weren’t as well known as they hoped.

Congratulations to Max for the first win of the season and also a fantastic drive from Lewis where he had to tell the pit wall how to strategize the race after they started on the wrong tire..

Definitely turned into an interesting race with the mixed field.
Great drives by the Ferraris, big bummer for GR63.
I'd forgotten about LH's engine failure at Sepang in 2016, nearly in the same place IIRC.

It is Ferrari after all.

“What is this ‘race strategy’ you speak of?”

What a mess that aprint was.
Has to be the most DNFs in any competitive session in a long time.

I was expecting a big pileup in turn 1 but everyone was pretty careful.
There is so much to lose and not much to gain by taking any risks with qualifying for the main race coming shortly after the sprint race.
With all the recent FIA electrical/software issues, I'd be interested to see if Hadjars problems were related.
Not a smart move by the McLaren boys to throw away the positions on the last lap. Ditto for Russell pitching it off while not really under any pressure.

Just a bit too much kerb for GR, unfortunate for what likely would've been a good result.

McLaren, just a dive that shouldn't have happened.

Another dreary Singapore Grand Prix in the books. I really can't stand this place and other spots now do the night race thing.

The only real interesting thing is Hamilton is now in danger of being overtaken by Verstappen and LeClerc in points. 229/221/215 in regards, and Max is only getting faster at the end of the year.

And yet another race where Lew shone in practice and Q's 1&2, only to stumble in Q3. I can also understand not trusting the Ferrari pit wall but Hammy is overestimating his control, both in strategy and racecraft. He's having a great year but the pieces aren't all there, with him and the team.

I continue to hate this race. It looks like they're racing in a parking garage and yesterday, in the day time Sprint, it looked like back alleys. At least it's really fun to have four teams that could win on any day. Never seen anything like this.

Set the controls for the heart of the Sun.

I’m generally not a fan of street circuits to begin with (Monaco excluded). It is too much of a parade although there was more passing than I expected.

I’m glad for Max and it seems that his decision to stay with RB is coming into fruition. He must have known what was coming down the pike.

Although LH is having a pretty good year his race craft beyond the car itself is not as good as he thinks it is. Couple that with the pit wall not being able to get out of its own way will forever doom his overall performance. Why didn’t they pit him under that last VSC? Just stupid.

They told him to pit, but he ignored it and decided to stay out. He admitted it was his choice and it was the wrong one. While Ferrari has screwed up strategy many times, he owns this one.

Not the best track but better than most street circuits. At least they could pass.
The tires seem to be more of an issue this year. Several races have had such hard compounds chosen that the hardest weren't used by anyone (that I noticed anyway) and the medium and soft didn't perform as expected.
Nice to see the TV cover a few of the other close racing situations and not just the leaders.

F1 in Rwanda

https://www.formula1.com/en/la...xs9VMK7cGFiBd2IplyES

quote:

Formula 1 has announced a landmark 10-year agreement to bring the sport back to the African continent, with the Formula 1 African Grand Prix, presented by Visit Rwanda, set to join the calendar in the early 2030s.

The agreement marks a defining moment in F1’s history and will see the sport return to Africa for the first time since 1993.

Racing in Africa has been a long-standing ambition for F1, with Tuesday’s announcement following years of collaboration to ensure the right foundations, with the best partner, are in place to deliver a successful, sustainable and world-class Grand Prix for generations to come.

The long-term agreement will see the first race in the country take place once a new purpose-built circuit in Bugesera, Rwanda, has been completed, which is expected to be early in the next decade.

The new track will be developed to FIA Grade 1 standards as part of a wider sports, tourism, infrastructure, and commercial development project led by the Rwanda Development Board.

Located approximately 40 kilometres south of capital city Kigali, and adjacent to the new Kigali International Airport, the circuit will be designed to work in harmony with the natural landscape, using the area’s elevation changes to create a unique and challenging racing experience while delivering exceptional viewing opportunities for fans.

Nice to see a more natural looking road course, hopefully with some good passing opportunities.

Immediate thought, looks like sector 1 of Suzuka.

Curious about Rwanda as a host country

If there has to be a race in Africa, why not Kyalami in the RSA? Too dangerous? Roll Eyes

IIRC, Kyalami got approval to make improvements to Grade 1. Not sure where that all wound up.
With Zandvoort moving off the calendar, Kyalami would be a nice addiiton.

New Haas driver replacing Esteban Ocon. That should leave only the two RB cars for openings next year.
