Here's a clip from F1 2021 of a practice lap at sunset. With the timing, it looks like this will be a day to night race while MotoGP races completely at night.

F1: FIA rejects Mercedes' request to review Verstappen's move

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/...ian-gp-move/6798430/

TL;DR - The new steering wheel video evidence was new and relevant, it was not significant enough to overturn the steward's decision.

I find this pissing and moaning over rulings, and sniping back and forth over rulings to be a part of F1 that is offputting. Suck it up boys - it is a rough game and the officials have to make calls based on what they know then and there. They'll even get some wrong from time to time. Too bad.

Kinda boring. Ham drove away. Some nice racing behind him. Nice to see Fernando hit the podium.

There are only a few guys that can make exceptional passes without crashing, wing damage, or even rubbing others. That's a special skill Bottas, Gasly and others seem to lack, in spite of their one lap speed.
Alonso showed that even at 40, he's still got that. In spite of some poorly judged off track career moves he is among only a couple of others with that level of skill.
Lets hope next years cars are more equal or shake up the order a bit and he gets a competitive car.

The win was boring, but there was good racing behind first and second places.

I agree, we need more equal cars.

This wasn't one of my favorite races of the year. Max had to get past some fast cars to get up to Louie, but by that time he had used his tires hard, and Louie was gone with decent tires on his car.

Alonzo proved that if he can start up near the front, his car and his driving skills will keep him there.

Former Formula 1 team boss Sir Frank Williams, whose squad became one of the most successful in grand prix racing’s history, has passed away. He was 79.

Condolences don't seem to sum up that impact of Sir Frank. One of the best team owners has left us.

RIP

Watching FP1 now.

Q1 & the first few laps of the race are going to be chaotic.

The pace car lap F1 put out yesterday, under the lights, reminded me of a combination of Sochi/Marina Bay.

Turn 1 and traffic on fast laps will be a challenge.
They haven't really had a lot of cars out there together yet and already the Haas (they didn't ID which driver)has looked like a moving obstacle for several drivers.
Should be interesting to see as the track cleans up and people start getting more serious. There is defiantly potential for issues causing yellow or red flags.
At this point, Bottas looks a lot more helpful to his teammate than Perez, but it's still early.

The Merc pair were definitely a lot closer on FP1 pace than the RBR pair.
Track was ramping up pretty quickly, IIR they were estimating quali times in the 1:30s & top FP1 times was in the 1:29 range. FP2 & Q3 should drop a bit more off of that.

Ouch finish to FP2
Nearly got through FP1 & FP2 without a stoppage & only 2 brief yellows.

Glad he's ok, but that car looked thrashed.

That was a wicked hit. The first shot from far away looked like just a pile of debris was left. The LR damage was due to just the inertia since it didn't appear to hit anything. Otherwise, most seemed to respect the walls and speed.
I'm surprised Charles didn't even appear to be shaken.
Tough night for the poor mechanics.

In other news:

Pirelli offers initial findings into Qatar failures

Nothing surprising. Speed, excessive curb usage, and staying out too long were the main causes of tire failure. The tires got old and the curbs eventually caused tears into the sidewalls. This should hopefully be resolved next year with the 18” wheel package with much narrower sidewalls and less of a cheat for teams with their suspension packages.

This track has a higher average speed than all others except for Monza.
Impressive but kind of scary too.
Let’s hope there are no major incidents.
