The perceived recoil was overwhelming. I spent the rest of the afternoon with perceived ice packs on my perceived black&blue shoulder and a couple of perceived ibuprofens.

I'm finishing up my long week today, so hopefully I have time this week to shoot it at least once more before we move on to something else.

I'm thinking some kind of dot drill could be kinda fun for the next one.

Base model Savage B-Mags with flimsy plastic stocks have a reputation for poor accuracy; The ammunition itself isn't considered to be precision match quality

Swapped a Boyd's laminated stock onto the Savage B-Mag barreled action, remounted the Bushnell 3X9 scope, set it to 4X and used the NRA A-32 target to sight in with Winchester Varmint HE 17 Win Super Mag 25gr polymer tip ammo at 50ft.
To my amazement , it was still zeroed about where I had left it before the stock swap. Seven shots fell about an inch below the X on the sighter bull.

So, I tried the postal match holding the duplex crosshair at the top of the 6 ring.
T1 86-1X, T2 90-1X, T3 87-2X = 263-4X



I hope the weather is good tomorrow; I'd like to try it at 50 meters and beyond.

10-.22, aperture sights, Federal Automatch

Trouble with the Williams aperture sight again: This time it was the windage set screw and the screw-in aperture itself loosening.
Here's the lateral set screw ( elevation adj.) with purple Locktite curing after the shoot.
In summary, the rail mount has been secured by the local gunsmith with retapping and red Locktiting the four screwholes, the dorsal set screw (windage adj.) purple Locktited.

Steel Challenge club match tomorrow, I'll leave the aperture insert free to be removed in the morning. I intend to be first place iron sight rimfire shooter. Last month I was first, last and middle iron sight revolver shooter.

Nice work with the 10/22!

It warms my heart to hear you shot steel challenge with a revolver. I actually got to go to our local outlaw match this week, but took the 320 and the P226. I didn't miss a single shot all night, and set the best time from a holster, but felt like I should have pushed myself to go faster. Next time I need to bring along the GP100 or the 66, just for fun.

As far as the thread is concerned, I did suggest that to Para in the thread in the office, but he never responded. I assume he's leaving it here because that's how he wants it. Whenever he wants to unlink it he obviously can.

Mounted the 3X9 Bugbuster on the 10-.22, set at 6X, CCI standard, offhand.
258-3X Way too much wobble in my hold. Giant liverwurst/onion/dillpickle/rye sandwich an hour before didn't help.

I can't say I'd expect liverwurst to help with much of anything .

I/we'd like to resume the Sigforum Postal Match!


To accommodate more shooters, we'll start with a more "bulls-eye" type match, no drawing from holster or speed shooting, and doable on short (indoor or outdoor) ranges.

"For the sake of the competition, designate your "match target" before you shoot it and post your honest results (IE don't shoot 5 targets and then just post your best one...pick the one you're going to post and then shoot it). This whole thing is on the honor system, so be honest!"

"I propose we let each "match" run for 2 weeks to give people time to get to the range and post their targets, and then we score the entries. Winner gets bragging rights and gets to pick the course of fire for the next 2 weeks."

Match starts Saturday, November 8, 2025. Post results by end of Monday, November 24rth.


Post targets at ten yards/ 30 feet.

Change up ---> Using any centerfire handgun, one or two handed, fire ten rounds at an NRA B8 center in ten minutes or less. <---changeup

This is my face right now :

I picked up some really cheap Argentine primers at the beginning of the year. The anvils are a little shallow and they need a solid whack to set them off. My stock P320 does just fine, but my P226 with GrayGuns strut was getting light strikes about 1/20, even with the blue spring. That was getting annoying, so I put a factory strut back in the gun today and figured this would be a good opportunity to test it. Trigger pull is still smooth, but much heavier, and I got consistent ignition, so I'm happy.

I left the door open for ya...100-9X at 10 yards, first shot in DA.





I've also been neglecting my rifle for the past year. It's only been out a few times since spring. I recently decided that any drill I run with a pistol I'm also going to do with the 9mm AR. I know it's a bit of a joke at these ranges, but the manipulations and trigger time are beneficial. I also had to replace the ejector spring and pin last night (pretty much every 1000 rounds or so with this CMMG system, even with the redesigned bolt), so today was a good chance to confirm function with it too. So not for score, just for fun...

Nice! I meant to take the applicable targets with me to the range earlier this week to participate and forgot to pack them. Hoping to get an entry logged in time here.

You'd have beat me today by a lot. I had to re-zero a P320 and used a B8 to do it. I was definitely riding the struggle bus. I didn't score it or take a picture, but it was bad. And the cheap harbor freight roll pin I put in the AR9 walked out and launched the ejector. I have spare parts in the basement and a complete spare bolt, (and new mil-spec roll pins from CMMG on order) but still...crazy how everything works out great one day then not so much the next.

Oh, and I slipped in the snow and fell down a hill in front of a bunch of college kids right before I went to the range. In uniform, of course, so extra embarrassing. Landed flat on my back and tweaked my neck and shoulder a bit...maybe I can blame my crummy shooting on that .

Alright, looks like a 92-1X if I’ve scored this correctly. Truly, this gun is capable of more and has demonstrated such in my usual defensive drills from concealment at a whopping 7 yards. This whole long-range requirement of 10 yards is clearly just too much for this humble shooter…tongue totally in-cheek at that “long-range” remark…the reality is that I need some work on the good, old basics at 10 yards and beyond.

This is a new S&W 686+ Mountain Gun in .357 Magnum. I shot 130-grain standard-pressure .38 Specials here. I used two-hands and fired it all double-action. The timing on this stage was more than generous and I did not take proper advantage of such. While I didn’t time myself, I’m confident I whipped through ten rounds in a minute max. Impatience, impatience…

That said, the exercise was fun and gave me a chance to continue to “prove” the function of the gun (this particular variant of the new Mountain Guns has seen its share of assorted QC and other troubles - my example has been a thorough pleasure through the 250-ish rounds I’ve put through it thus far).

Thanks to you for keeping this match alive and, Lord willing, I’ll be back for more.

Very nice Mountain Gun FrontRange! I have yet to come across one in the wild, but was excited when they released these and am glad to hear that yours has been good. I'm kinda holding out hoping they come through with a .45 Colt, but if not I really wouldn't mind a .44.

My “ideal” Mountain Gun (and least likely to be made available haha) would be an N-Frame 8-shot .357.
