Managed to get my mitts on one after scouring the Yoop for the gun. Observations so far: Grip is excellent - Better IMHO that the G19. Sights are very good and not so tall as to interfere with my existing Glock holsters. Fit and finish seem on par with Glock. Trigger is pretty good but a longer takeup than my Glocks. Safety tab is properly fitted. I usually trash the case the gun comes in but not this time. Its nice! All the parts needed to mount an optic are included. Ruger test fired the gun. And lubed it with a white grease. Another plus is Ruger actually included a printed owners manual booklet. No QR code or going on a website for the manual. I paid $420 for it. Minor whine: A steel recoil spring guide would have been nice! Weather allowing, I will shoot it next week,This message has been edited. $425 at my LGS in Chicagoland. I’m going to wait for prices to drop or look for a used one. I do think it’s funny how optic cuts are starting to become more of a standard, yet they are still using cheap plastic guide rods.

How many/often do you see Glock plastic guide rods fail? At what round counts? At what round count are they supposed to be replaced?
|
Down the Rabbit Hole |
They fail at around the 669 round mark. Slightly more often than trigger return springs breaking in a P365. At least Sig sells those in a 3 pack. I have several Gen 3 Glocks with high round counts, including one with close to 40k with the org. guide rod. Must be a fluke. Mistake Not... |
You mean like right now or in a year from now? I mean, the gun just got released and there is a $35 replacement in black right now. I bet in a year from now there will be every color under the sun with three different sizes too (26/19/17). ___________________________________________ Life Member NRA & Washington Arms Collectors Mistake not my current state of joshing gentle peevishness for the awesome and terrible majesty of the towering seas of ire that are themselves the milquetoast shallows fringing my vast oceans of wrath. Ruger has created a lot of buzz with this new pistol. I have a feeling the prices will get closer to retail in the coming months barring any unforeseen issues. The plastic guide rod will be fine. I was hoping for the Gen 4 type, which I think is the better of the two designs. Since the RXM is a Gen 3 clone, it gets the Gen 3 plastic one. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

Peace through superior firepower |
The gen4 RSA is really because of the .40/357 chamberings. The 9x19 doesn't need the complication, just like the gen3 G17 and G19 didn't need the third frame pin. The gen3 17/19 was designed without the additional reinforcement and the third pin wasn't added until 2003 or thereabouts, and only to make manufacturing uniform across the calibers. I own gen2 Glocks, gen3 and gen5. Skipped right over the gen4.

Gen5 .40 cal. Glocks have only 2 pins now. I'm guessing the added slide mass allowed them to do away with the 3rd pin? Diligentia, Vis, Celeritas "People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." -- George Orwell

Yup, that is the case. All Gen5 Glocks have only two frame cross pins, even for those calibers that didn't get notable changes to their respective slide strength, like 10mm and 45AUTO. -MG

I swear I had something for this |
The other plus side as soon as more grips are available is there's no good reason to be tempted by a Zev OZ9 anymore as this is more configurable at 30% the cost.

I've had an Academy gift card burning a hole in my pocket. With my birthday coming up, I may see if they have one in stock to check out & compare side by side with a G19. Last I checked Academy had them listed for $430 online. The Enemy's gate is down.

Keep an eye on how other big-box FFL retailers have the RXM priced. Academy will price match the following stores on their list: https://www.academy.com/price-match-guarantee. So for example, Carter's Country has the RXM currently on sale for $399.97 through 1/2/2025, which means Academy will match and beat that price by 5%.

Good to know, that would put it about $20 less than list ,OTD. The Enemy's gate is down.

Glorious SPAM! |
Right? When this first hit I read (yes it was the internet but is made sense) that one of the reasons they chose grey is because it sets it apart from the other guns in the case. In gun cases awash in black or FDE, grey might stand out. I agree with that. If you look around there are pics of the RXM with Magpul FDE or OD grips, so many more will be forthcoming I assume. Still haven't hit the range or put my Grit Grips together (long holiday) but hopefully in the next week. Back to VA for work on the 6th! ETA VA pic, I like this. Taken in August, we had just had a cold snap of 50 degree at nights. Made for good morning fog pics in BW.

Or like some other poster said, Magpul was just trying to get rid of an excess of a less popular polymer color. Either way, a black frame is only $40 at Ruger’s website and many more companies will be making frames for the RXM.

RXM Range Report: Prior to going to the range I cleaned off the factory (white grease) lube and re-lubed with Hurleys Gold. I mix loaded with various types of ammo, a total of 15 magazines with 15 rounds each. 7 of the mags were OEM Glock of varying ages, including brand new. The rest of the mags were P-mags. Ammo was Freedom Munitions Reman 115 JHP, Speer 115 Gold Dots, (my street carry round) Blazer Brass 115 and 124 and Federal HST 147 HPs. I wanted to check to see if the gun would run a wide variety of ammo without issue. I dont use +P in my 9mms so all ammo was standard pressure. I set up a target at 15 yards and shot from both a rested position and unsupported standing. 31 degrees at the range today! Results: Fully reliable. No malfunctions. Sights were dead on with the tritium dot held dead center, no 6 o'clock hold used. Little variation with point of impact from differing bullet weights. The well fitted trigger tab and flat face made for comfort for my pinkie. Recoil seemed a little snapper than my Gen 4 G19. But not by much. I put this down to differences in the two frames. Trigger was Glock-ish in feel and pull weight but with a longer takeup before the wall. Estimated pull weight is 5 pounds. Extraction /ejection was consistent and vigorous throughout. Bottom line: It shot like a G19, but with a more comfortable trigger and excellent steel sights. If you are going with a Glock clone, the Ruger appears to be a solid choice. Time will tell as to long term reliability and durability. I have not fooled with the optic mount yet but will when it warms up more. I will try my Holosun on it. Note: in cleaning the RXM I saw the barrel has absolutely no type of protective crown at the muzzle end. Zip. Zero. None. So, you need to ensure the muzzle is kept free of damage.
