Prefontaine, I suspect one will lead to three, but trying to decide on #1 to start. The Compact (thinking of sand, threaded) seems to make most sense. You have called the Subcompact a "jewel" a couple times. I got the sense you had a particular fondness for that one? More input from others? Scott

Scott, I have only the Subcompact, so I can't compare it with the Compact. Like Prefontaine, I find the Subcompact to be a jewel of a pistol, but unlike him, mine had some issues that Kriss immediately took care of. Also, Prefontaine's Sub eats any ammo, and I find that mine is somewhat selective. Now that I have found a perfect JHP round in the Fed. HST +P 147gr., I am thrilled with this pistol. I have over 250 flawless rounds of HST through the pistol (as well as many more flawless rounds of Blazer Brass ball). The Sub is nearly exactly the same size as my P239, but holds 5 more rounds without being thicker in the grip. The barrel is .5 inches shorter, but that doesn't affect my accuracy. It might affect muzzle energy somewhat, but I am confident that with my HST round that I would never be lacking. The pistol returns to target extremely fast for me, and the tapered slide just guides my eye to the front sight. As I posted yesterday, 7 yard accuracy is near perfect. The trigger is excellent and the pistol is extremely tight. It is so tight that at first I could not even release the slide lock with two thumbs pressing. With shooting, the "over" tightness eases off and the trigger becomes even better. Then there is the intangible quality of the feel of the pistol. Besides the ergonomics being perfect for my hand, the pistol just feels great to hold and shoot. You can feel the quality. So even with a rocky start that Kriss immediately resolved, I find the Sub terrific, lacking only a night sight. Night sights are promised, and when they are available, I will swap the Sub for my P239 SAS Gen2 as a carry pistol. Unlike Prefontaine, I am keeping my SIGs as I like them very much and find them to be true quality also (but not quite up to the Spinx... well, my P210 Target and X-5 L-1 are). MP

I love the sub. Of the ammo that I was able to use (FMJ) it was very accurate the trigger is great. The sights are ok but I put white nail polish in the holes of the rear sight. I bought this Sphinx to use as my carry gun to replace my P239 or H&K 2000 Etc. but it does not like defense ammo that I have so far. So while I am waiting for it to return from Kriss I bought a Dan Wesson ECO 45acp which is working with all dif. brands of ammo that I have.

Not to sidetrack, but how do you like the P210? Is it "the most accurate 9mm in the world" or is that just hype (I see they have USED Swiss police models going for $2600).

I have the P210 Legend Target. I also have 2 other highly accurate pistols (one is a 1911 9mm 'smith custom modified for target shooting), and the P210 is easily their equal or better. It is just a joy to shoot, and I've not shot anything more accurate. I'm an ex-competitive bull's-eye shooter, so I am really fanatical about accuracy, and the P210 just shines. MP

Thanks MP, Is yours one of the new models by SIG or an original model (the Legend is new model?)?

The Legend is the new model, but I believe now discontinued. MP

I love both of mine, but for carry, in my situation, it's the subcompact that is easily preferred. Not so much because of the size difference, but because of the weight difference as I have a all stainless duotone compact that weighs in at 42 oz empty and 54 oz fully loaded. I can carry it, but it's right up there with a full size 1911 all steel fully loaded as far as weight. With a good holster and belt, it really isn't an issue, but it sure does make you appreciate a lighter weapon. Plus, it's the wife's HD gun now so I guess it don't matter. She had already laid claim to it before I got it in hand. The Alphas or the Black line all aluminum frame compacts aren't anywhere near the weight of the duotone, so those would be a good alternative to the subcompact. The subcompact has slightly thinner grips because they are flat on both sides where as the compact has some bulges to fill the palm more being more ergonomic. Doesn't matter to me, but to some it might. Both are very accurate and come with excellent match triggers straight from the factory. The short trigger reset and very crisp release in SA makes shooting them so easy. I just put 200 more rounds through each of these over the holiday without any issues. I gotta say that the compact and it's weight make it really enjoyable to shoot and contributes to it's outstanding accuracy. Hope this helps some. The P210 is not the most accurate in the world, but its among them. As a service pistol, quality is unequaled.

Thanks for all the great input re Compact vs Sucompact. Tundra, Thanks for the great photos. The ones of the grips. Are those with the medium or small grips? This may have been covered before, but are the small grips on the Compact smaller, bigger, or the same thickness/size as the grips on the Subcompact. Talking about thickness here; obviously the Compact is taller. Scott

Scott the grip on the subcompact is smaller all the way around compared to the small grip insert on the compact. It is thinner. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Excellent. Thank you very much. I think I will start with the subcompact.

Well my Subcompact has returned. The replaced the barrel, slide stop, pivot and guide rod. They also replaced the rear sight which had a tool mark on it. Took it out to the range and shot 250 rounds of mixed ammo. RWS, Greco, Tula, Winchester 147gr Ranger, 124Gr +p Gold Dots and a some Freedom munitions. The gun ran 100%. It was smooth and sweet. At this point I am going to continue to put it through its paces but I think they took care of the issues. One thing I did notice breaking it down is that the new replacement barrel is a not smoother in appearance than the one in my Compact. They are both polygon rifling correct? I was just surprise to see the sub-compact so smooth in appearance. I don't remember looking at the rifling on the original barrel but the new one reminds me of a CZ82 barrel in that it looks almost smooth. You really have to shine a light in there to catch the polygon rifling. Anyone else notice this about their sub-compact barrel? The gun shot lights out accurate for me at 7 and 10 yards which was all I had time to shoot at today. Hopefully it will continue to prove reliable and will become a trusted carry gun as it was intended.

I just looked at mine, and it is "smooth". Shoots wonderfully. BTW, what part is the pivot? MP

I am not sure I was looking at the diagram in the manual and nothing is called a pivot. I was wondering if maybe it is the slide stop lever spring pin but honestly that is just a guess. Also I think they might have smoothed the gun out a bit for me while it was there. The DA pull is coming in at 8lbs 13oz avg of 5 pulls and the SA is 4lbs 12ozs again avg of 5 pulls.

Found it. 46: Hammer strut 47: Hammer spring 48: Pivot So maybe that is why your trigger is lighter. MP

Looks like it is the pivot pin which contains the hammer spring.

My subcompact will be in tomorrow from Kriss. The gun rifling on the barrel I sent back was so smooth that it was hard to see that it had rifling. Will see what they done when it comes in tomorrow.
