I hated to spend the money on Gray's monster but it was necessary for my CQC-7A. The factory disk is too small to easily open the knife. The disk is now on my 14. The 14 doesn't need it as much but I like the way it looks on that knife and I carry it more. I need to order another disk for the 7A but I'm waiting for my 15 to arrive to see if I'll want one on that.

The finish on Gray's disk was not great. There were light black smudges. I didn't pursue it because it is on knives that see a lot of use anyway. Still, it was surprising to see that on a small-batch, custom-made part. I would try someone else but options seem to be non-existent. I don't know how I feel about the bullet disks and can't find anyone currently making them.

I guess what I'm saying is, the bigger disk is worthwhile but I wish there were better/cheaper options.

I agree, it was the most reasonably priced. Especially compared to the bullet ones I found.

Wish I had the skills, Id put out my own.

Yep, I recall mentioning our similar taste in holsters and guns too:

I made a detail print [ETA; of my own design] and emailed it to a machine shop vendor of mine. We'll see what he comes back with. I told him material wasn't an issue, maybe there's double-keyed shafting that will take care of 90% of the work, or broach a shaft. Just need to knurl a few inches of shaft, setup the tail piece with an 82 degree 0.10 center drill, hit the end, part it off, repeat. Tumble or blast all of the parts, done.

I wish I still had access to a manual lathe.

Edit:
I did just order a couple discs from Grey Precision earlier today, though. A monster in matte bronze and a normal size in polished toxic green.

Edit 2: Clarified the submitted design is mine, not a copy.

Everything mentioned is the last 4-5 posts. In short we were looking for alternative to the thumb discs currently available, as they're only available in titanium.

You're manufacturing a part which was created by Grey Precision? How many parts do you intend to make, and are these parts for sale?

I dont know if Rustpot was submitting an exact copy or just using it as the basis to work off of.

Hey, woah, nothing has happened here.

I have bought, and continue to buy (did today, in fact) these from Gray Precision.

I was bored at work. I made a print of a similar item. The model I posted was a close copy. I made it as a time waster and so I could model knurling (something I actually hadn't done before).

I was never intending to make anything for sale. I thought that was clear, re-reading I can see it's not.

Let me be clear:

I DO NOT INTEND TO MAKE, COPY, HAVE MADE, SELL, PRODUCE, OR IN ANY OTHER FASHION REPRODUCE THE PRODUCTS GRAY PRECISION OR PETE GRAY SELLS/MAKES/DESIGNED/ETC

Re-reading again it looks pretty damming. I posted the picture, people said they wanted them if I could make them cheaper - I should have immediately said I didn't intend to make a copy.

This is what I get for not paying very close attention at work.

The design I made I'd rather not post until I have some more information. It will likely cost me twice as much as we can go buy a monster disc from Pete Gray. The one I made is stepped to retain the full disc shape and add relief for knives with tight clearance, like my new A100.

I placed it at 2:08pm EST today. Canceled by Mr Gray over this mess at 7:29pm

But in earnest, there was ZERO ill-intent. NONE. NADA.

THANK YOU EVERYONE for going and blowing this out of proportion.

Kind of late now. I did go edit my posts. I made it clear I made a design of my own.

All I can say is: I'm sorry.
