Because of the sex abuse scandles within the church over the last 20 years, these bishops are primed at the pump to respond quickly and decisively to acts unbecoming of the church and illegal to the law. Surely, assuming the best about the man, this was the intent of the diocese leadership. In this case, they responded quickly but relied solely on the fake media reports for their information. Hopefully, this diocese will gets the facts in order ASAP and act quickly to reverse their initial position and instead defend and support their youth and their school; neither of whom did anything wrong.

Well for my wife and I we did choose to leave the Catholic church. No it’s not like changing underwear. When the church from the top down decided to put the interests of the church before the kids moving and hiding priests over and over again so they can continue their pattern of abuse at their new location, to save the church from lawsuits. That’s when we decided to leave. This abuse and moving of priests goes much farther back then 20 years. When my wife’s mother who is 95 yrs old knew of it going on when she was a child in up state NY. But because of the pressures the Catholic Church put on the families to not shame the church nothing happened. I have a moral compass that told me not to stay in a church that allowed this to go on.

I'm not a Catholic, or even a Christian, but I know enough about the Bible that you don't throw your brother under the bus to save your own skin. For the most part to get to bishop you need to be a politician. You don't get to be a Bishop based on being a good preacher.

The fact that this gentleman, who has a fiduciary responsibility to these children, but chose his best interest first is deplorable.

An easy statement to make would be. "An accusation has been made against our students. It's an extremely important allegation, we promise that we will get to the bottom of this and take all actions necessarily if this claim proves to be true, and punish or remove anyone who has not lived up to our standards as a cucrch and school."

Instead the students were thrown under a bus and not until five days after the exculpatory evidence was presented did he/they admit wrongdoing.

I'm not a religious person, so maybe I have too high of expations of The Church.

The entire text of his letter is posted on the previous page.

He says his initial response condemning the students was based on “good will”. Not seeing much of that in it, myself. I believe this most recent letter is partially the result of families of some students hiring attorneys.

“We are sorry that this situation has caused such disruption in the lives of so many. We apologize to anyone who has been offended in any way by either of our statements which were made with good will based on the information we had. We should not have allowed ourselves to be bullied and pressured into making a statement prematurely, and we take full responsibility for it. I especially apologize to Nicholas Sandmann and his family as well as to all CovCath families who have felt abandoned during this ordeal. Nicholas unfortunately has become the face of these allegations based on video clips. This is not fair. It is not just.”

Again, this is not an apology.

He is saying “Sorry if you were/are offended;” NOT “I am sorry for what I said that was offensive.” This is saying that there is something wrong with the offended individual, and denying any responsibility for anything he said or did, despite his saying “we take full responsibility for it.”

He is also saying to Nicholas “Sorry YOU felt abandoned,” NOT “I am sorry I abandoned you;” again, putting the onus on Nicholas, and absolving himself of any responsibility.

I am really tired of people accepting these “non apologies” as genuine. This is a narcissist who thinks he can do no wrong. Disgusting piece of human filth.

Yeah, I'd slow you roll on this one, X. Skins is closer than you might think. I am not Catholic, but am involved to a lesser degree in their charitable gaming. I have been for years. This week, there was a ton of talk about going after their charitable gaming in retaliation for the state diocese stance of late. I heard (but can't find anything on Google) that two prominent state leaders met with the Governor to discuss the churches charitable gaming status. That millions per year, if not more. So Skins is not far off on his speculation, I would say. If not donors, the church is feeling the pressure on their charitable gaming. That's is legalized gambling they have the market cornered on in the state.

I am not a fan of painting people with a broad brush, but have problems buying the idea that the bishop is apolitical and he just had a conscious attack. Maybe that is in fact the case, but if how they have been handling the pedophilia allegations around Louisville is any indication, I'll pass on thinking that they are all nothing but stand up guys.

Man Booted From School Board Meeting For Naming Teacher Who Called Covington Boys ‘Hitler Youth’

A man was escorted out of a Colorado school board meeting Thursday for naming a teacher who called the wrong Covington Catholic boy part of the “Hitler Youth” on a now-deleted Twitter account.

Mountain Ridge Middle School seventh-grade history teacher Michelle Grissom allegedly named and posted a picture of Covington Catholic student Jay Jackson as one of the boys wearing Make America Great Again (MAGA) hats in Washington, D.C. Jackson was not in Washington with his peers, who were confronted by American Indian activist Nathan Phillips.

“I can’t imagine what drove a teacher to make comments online that were hateful and bigoted, slanderous and vilifying,” parent Aaron Johnson said Thursday. “Now we’re all left picking up the pieces she broke.”

Johnson elaborated to The Daily Caller News Foundation over the phone that Grissom’s actions makes the entire school community look bad.

John Jackson, the father, asked Grissom several times to take down the tweet relating his son to “Hitler Youth.” The post was taken down only after John Jackson contacted the Douglas County Schools.

Johnson was asked to leave after mentioning Grissom by name, according to the video.

“We’ve been very explicit about no names being mentioned in our board meetings, so at this point you are out of order and would ask that you would cease your comment, given that you have violated the expectation that no names be mentioned in a slanderous way,” board member David Ray said.

The district’s board meeting policy, obtained by TheDCNF from Douglas County Schools public information officer Paula Hans, asks speakers to “refrain from using individual names in an offensive matter.” (RELATED: Trump Says Covington Catholic Boys ‘Making Big Comeback’)

Johnson said the intention of going to the podium was to have the district reassess their social media policy. He said he was not aware of the school board policy on names and believes it is implemented selectively.

A woman who had school officials’ names on a sign was cautioned by Ray about using names at the Jan. 8 board meeting, but was not kicked out.

“I, and many other residents have been denied our request to speak during the public comment period prior to tonight’s Board meeting,” Ted Harvey, a former Republican State Senator for Colorado, said to TheDCNF prior to Thursday’s meeting. “As a taxpaying citizen of Douglas County, I find this denial by David Ray, the President of the School Board, rather offensive.”

Grissom was put on administrative leave as the district investigates. She also resigned as an executive board member for Douglas County Federation teacher union, according to 9News.

“The board president is responsible for directing speakers to confine their remarks to the agenda item for which they have signed up to speak,” Ray said in a statement obtained by TheDCNF. “Further, the policy states that since the board’s responsibility is setting policy for the school district, members of the public should direct their comments to policy matters. It is District policy not to hear, in public session, personal complaints against any district personnel.”

It appears to me that the only slanderous statement mentioned in that story was made by the “history teacher”.

Lin Wood is the lawyer for Nick Sandmann.

On 25 Jan 2019 Bishop of Covington, Roger Foys, wrote an apology letter

"I especially apologize to Nicholas Sandmann and his family"

I wonder if that letter was related to the fact that on 24 January 2019, Lawyer Wood had delivered a preservation of evidence demand to Bishop Foys

Lin Wood:

Last night, Todd McMurtry @FitLwyr and I delivered a preservation of evidence demand to Bishop Foys. This afternoon, he belatedly apologized to Nick by letter. Good first step but more is necessary in order to fully remedy the damage caused by his libelous statements.

Statement Of Attorneys L. Lin Wood And Todd McMurtry On Behalf Of Nick Sandmann And His Family

TLANTA, Jan. 25, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- On January 18, in the span of a few hours, Nick Sandmann's peaceful attendance with his Covington Catholic classmates at the March for Life in Washington, D.C. was turned into a personal nightmare when Nick became the focus of false and defamatory accusations published and broadcast across the nation and the world. A mob comprised of activists, church and school officials, members of the mainstream print and broadcast media, and individuals on social media, including elected public officials and celebrities, rushed to condemn and vilify this young man by burying him in an avalanche of false accusations, false portrayals, and cyberbullying that have threatened his reputation and his physical safety. Nick Sandmann is 16 years old. He is an eleventh-grade high school student. He is not the face of evil and he did absolutely nothing wrong or inappropriate in connection with the incident to deserve the heinous accusations made against him by uninformed or agenda-driven individuals and media entities.

Nick and his family have experienced one of the worst sides of our present society. As their lawyers, we intend to exercise our best efforts as advocates to show Nick and his family another side of our society – that we are a society that survives and flourishes from the fact that it is based on the rule of law. A system of justice that demands that truth prevail and the wrongdoers be held accountable for the harm they have inflicted on Nick and his family.

In the coming weeks, we will be carefully reviewing all of the false accusations and threats made against Nick. We fully expect that a multitude of civil lawsuits will be filed and aggressively pursued. We recognize that justice for Nick will not be achieved quickly, but we are dedicated to achieving it for this young man regardless of time or expense.

At this time, Nick, his family and their lawyers will not be engaging in media interviews. There is work to be done. If any member of the public has information, they believe is helpful to Nick, that information can be communicated to us by email to supportnick@linwoodlaw.com.

Nick and his family sincerely appreciate the fair-minded individuals who respect our system of justice and refused to rush to judgment before the truth was revealed. Our efforts are not about politics, race or religion. Our efforts are only about justice for Nick.
