I just watched that video The Truth in 15 Minutes and the one thing that still strikes me about the whole thing is why was there no police presence at all?

Different types of groups on the stairs in front of a national monument and not one cop in sight to document jackshit. I've never been to DC so I don't know what it's like there. If the same thing happened in Denver there surely would have been cops on the scene.

I have not lived in the DC area for many years, but when I did, I wandered around the monuments on the Mall a lot. Thinking back, I don’t recall a routine police foot presence at all except at the Capitol building, and that was to check that I had a permit to use a tripod for photos. I suspect that tourists would not feel comfortable with a heavy police presence.

Although it has very likely changed in recent years, disturbances on the Mall were very rare. The only brief one I recall was when some greasy guy in stereotypical biker garb started screaming at a man of apparent Asian heritage walking on the grass near the top of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall. I remember that incident because it was after dark, and I started looking to see if police would respond to see what was the matter. None showed up.

I doubt that there's much to dig up on a 15-year-old Catholic school student.

You are right, I totally missed it. Must be too much association of anything "Native" with her. And really, why isn't Phillips on the list?

Now come the lawsuits Smile

The lawyers representing Covington Catholic High School student Nick Sandmann and his family said Friday they have sent letters to media outlets, individual journalists, celebrities and Catholic organizations as the first step in possible libel and defamation lawsuits.

The list includes 50-plus names of organizations or individuals: from presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren to actress Alyssa Milano; individual journalists including Maggie Haberman, Ana Cabrera and David Brooks; national media outlets like the The New York Times, CNN, GQ and TMZ; and the dioceses of Covington and Lexington as well as the archdioceses of Louisville and Baltimore.

Nick, as well as his school, faced threats from those angered by video showing him, his classmates and Native Americans engaged in a much-debated confrontation. Some of the students wore "Make America Great Again" hats. Some students chanted and performed the tomahawk chop.

The legal counsel representing Nick and his family, Todd McMurtry and experienced libel and defamation lawyer L. Lin Wood of Atlanta, have said they will seek justice for the harm allegedly done to the teen.

McMurtry said an example of false reports were those saying Nick got into the face of Phillips.

McMurtry added his belief that some in the aftermath of the incident "permanently stained (Nick's) reputation."

IIRC, the only cops you'll ever see around the monuments in DC are US Park Police, and this incident happened during the gov't. shutdown. So the Park Police were probably on a skeleton crew.

I'm glad they included good ol' Nathan in their lawsuit Razz

Nick Sandmann’s lawyer says that Nathan Phillips will be sued for his lies against the Covington Catholic students, which spurred an onslaught of defamation by celebrities, media outlets, and individual journalists in January.

An attorney representing 16-year-old Covington Catholic High School student Nick Sandmann says that Native American activist Nathan Phillips will also be sued among the media companies and individuals who have participated in defaming the Covington Catholic students.

The attorney, Lin Wood, said that Phillips’ “lies and false accusations” against the Covington Catholic students are “well documented,” according to a report by LifeSite News.

There is currently a laundry list of individuals and media companies that are listed in the lawsuit that Sandmann’s legal team is preparing. The student’s attorney says that the first round of civil lawsuits will be filed “within two weeks.”

Wood also told LifeSite that the list “continues to grow in number,” adding that the legal team is “in the process of sending formal written retraction demands in conformity with statutes in states in which litigation may be filed.”

“We have no idea why the investigation by the Diocese has not been concluded but we are confident that any objective review of the evidence will conclude that Nick did nothing wrong,” said Wood in response to why the Diocese of Covington is still investigating the January incident.

“Nick remained calm and well-mannered despite being confronted by an activist beating a drum within inches of his face while chanting loudly. Nick did not utter one word except to quietly urge a classmate to refrain from making any comments that might aggravate the situation created by Phillips and the Black Hebrew Israelites.”

The attorney added that Sandmann had not been able to return to school for several days in the two weeks after his return from Washington, D.C.

Earlier this month, Wood tweeted a 15-minute video montage displaying, in chronological order, what had actually happened with regards to the infamous incident at the Lincoln Memorial.

“Some say a 15-minute video is too long to go viral,” said Wood, “Will we allow incomplete 30-second video clips to be the basis for agenda-driven false accusations & threats against a 16-year old student?”

The 15-minute video reveals additional and significant details that clarify the viral incident, which the mainstream media had failed to cover.

Investigation finds no evidence of ‘racist or offensive statements’ by Covington Catholic students during Lincoln Memorial incident

By Frances Stead Sellers and Kevin Williams February 13 at 12:19 PM
An investigation released Wednesday into an encounter between Covington Catholic High School students and Native American activists at the Lincoln Memorial last month largely supports the students’ accounts of the incident, which prompted immediate and widespread condemnation of the boys after a video of the encounter went viral.

A short video clip showed Nathan Phillips, playing a traditional drum, in an apparent standoff with student Nick Sandmann, who was wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat. The Diocese of Covington and Covington Catholic High School, which arranged the trip, were among those who initially condemned the boys’ actions in the video.

The report, prepared by Greater Cincinnati Investigation, Inc. and dated Feb. 11, employed four licensed investigators for approximately 240 hours to take statements from students and chaperones, as well as to interview third-party witnesses and review about 50 hours of video. Investigators were not able to interview either Phillips or Sandmann in person and instead reviewed the student’s written account.

The investigators said they found no evidence that the students responded in an offensive manner to the black Hebrew Israelites or that they chanted “build the wall.” After asking chaperones, they performed a school cheer, according to the report, to drown out the black Hebrew Israelites.

Other key findings include testimony that the students felt “confused” when Phillips approached them. Investigators said they found no evidence of “racist or offensive statements by students to Mr. Phillips,” though some performed a “tomahawk chop.”

According to the report, one of the chaperones told students that if “they engaged in a verbal exchange with the Black Hebrew Israelites, they would receive detention when returning to school.”

According to the report, most boys bought the red hats bearing President Trump’s MAGA slogan in Washington on the day of the March for Life, an annual antiabortion rally that they attended. In previous years, some students bought “Hope” hats in support of President Obama, the report says.

The Bishop of Covington welcomed the report in a statement on the diocese’s website. Roger Foys wrote that he was pleased “that my hope and expectation expressed in my letter to you of 25 January that the results of our inquiry ... would ‘exonerate our students so that they can move forward with their lives’ has been realized.”

The day after the march, the diocese denounced the boys’ behavior in a joint statement with the school, calling it “opposed to the Church’s teachings on the dignity and respect of the human person.”

“We condemn the actions of the Covington Catholic High School students towards Nathan Phillips specifically, and Native Americans in general,” the statement read.

Foys later wrote that he was “bullied and pressured into making a statement prematurely” and that it is “important for us to gather the facts that will allow us to determine what corrective actions, if any, are appropriate.”

The report does not provide any recommendations for future changes, such as banning political attire or changes to chaperone protocol. Many people were critical that the adults in charge of the students did not intervene more forcefully to avoid or end the interactions.

The report also does not address underlying issues of diversity at the school that were raised by local NAACP leader Jerome Bowles and others.

Before the report was released, Bowles said the missteps occurred before the students left for the Washington trip.

“There has to be a look at diversity in the diocese in general. Covington Catholic is a very academically proficient educational institution; no one questions that,” he said. “But is the school totally preparing students for the workforce and a diverse world?”

It just NEVER ends does it.... Roll Eyes

Political attire? Seriously? First Amendment....Ever hear of it?

Diversity at the school? That's just ridiculous! It's a private/parochial school! Students that go there do so because their parents chose that school for their children....And likely pay a handsome tuition for them to go there! Oh, and there are scholarships available to offset the tuition cost if its a financial stretch! I'm sure the student body at Covington Catholic High School is as diverse as the group of families that CHOOSE to go there!

So what happened to his backbone? First he comes out attacking the kids, with little to no information, then when it comes out that he screwed up royally, he tries to cover his ass.

Good thing for him he is not working for me.

Back in the early to mid 1970s, I was a member of the national guard unit for a year. It was an MP unit, populated mostly by cops from DC.

I was telling a fellow NCO at a meeting about an incident where I had gone, at night, to service an IBM machine in some woman's basement. Told him there were no street lights there.

He was incredulous!! "What the hell were you doing there, at all, let alone at night?" I explained about the service call, and he informed me that the police do not go there at night.
