Week 8:
6 Big Ten matchups this weekend and two byes (tOSU & NE):
  • Purdue @ Rutgers at 11 AM CDT on BTN - Depending on which odds service you believe the Boilermakers are 9.5 to 10 point favorites. I'm going with my Boilermakers to win and cover.
  • IA @ NWU at 11 AM CDT on ESPN2 - This is likely to be the closest game of the weekend, and depending on which odds service you believe the Hawkeyes are 1 to 2 point favorites. I'm going with the Hawkeyes to cover.
  • MD @ #5 WI at 11 AM CDT on FOX - the odds services unanimously have the Badgers as 24.5 point favorites. The question isn't whether or not WI wins, but by how much and whether or not freshman sensation Taylor can put up 200 yards (the most the Terps have given up is 171 yds to NWU's Jackson)? I've got the Badgers covering and Taylor breaking 200.
  • IU @ #18 MSU at 2:30 PM CDT on ABC - Depending on which odds service you believe the Sparties are 6.5 to 7 point favorites. I think MSU will win by double digits so I'm going with win & cover.
  • IL @ MN at 2:30 PM CDT on BTN - the odds services unanimously have the Golden Gophers as 13.5 point favorites. The Gophers are coming off 3 straight losses, but they're a much better team than this and the Illini are the worst team in the Big 10. Gophers cover by half-time, and win by at least 24.
  • #19 UofM @ #2 PSU at 6:30 PM CDT on ABC - this game has the biggest B1G championship implications of the weekend, and the odds services unanimously have the Nittany Lions as 9.5 point favorites. PSU covers easily and I'm predicting the final score will be between 35-10 and 45-13.

PSU will have a tougher time with TTUN than the odds makers predict BUT they are motivated and will win.

The real question of the weekend is will Wisconsin's first team offense see the field in the second half? Taylor will only get 200 yards if he plays the whole game.

This is a good weekend to be a Buckeye. I get to see what is happening everywhere else.

Crazy day so far in the Big Ten with 2 upsets, Taylor didn't get 200 yards in the Badger win, and IU intentionally giving up a TD so they could get the ball back with time left as opposed to MSU kicking a winning FG with no time left.

It's a white out in Happy Valley, and it's just about kick-off for UofM at PSU.

PSU must have eaten their Wheaties.

    TTUN was completely overmatched.

Next week in Columbus is going to be a great game.

    Week 8 Wrap-up:
6 Big Ten matchups this weekend and two byes (tOSU & NE):
  • Purdue @ Rutgers at 11 AM CDT on BTN - Once again, Purdue's O stunk up the red zone plus they added choking on 3rd down and inability to catch a ball hitting them in the hands. The defense once again played well and kept them in the game. In the final seconds of the 4th Purdue went for a 2 point conversion and failed to tie the game. I can't believe they lost to Rutgers Frown
  • IA @ NWU at 11 AM CDT on ESPN2 - Closest game of the weekend as predicted, and NWU pulled off the W in OT.
  • MD @ #5 WI at 11 AM CDT on FOX - as anticipated, the Badgers covered the large spread, but I was surprised Taylor was held to 126 yards. It also seems the young man has fumbleitis and coughed up the ball for the 2nd week in a row (3rd time this season).
  • IU @ #18 MSU at 2:30 PM CDT on ABC - MSU came from behind to win and cover. It was actually quite an unusual finish as with 1:55 left MSU was leading 10-9 when the IU sideline told the D to let MSU score and Scott obliged from 18 yards out. The Hoosiers were worried that MSU would score anyway and they'd have no time left. MSU's D held firm, and IU never got the ball across midfield.
  • IL @ MN at 2:30 PM CDT on BTN - the Gophers actually had the spread covered, but let in a garbage time TD (0:27 left). The amazing thing is that the Gophers won with only 47 yards passing, and relied on the ground game's 292 yards to win.
  • #19 UofM @ #2 PSU at 6:30 PM CDT on ABC - As predicted, this was a lopsided blowout. PSU jumped on UofM hard early with a big dose of Barkley who scored 2 TDs on his first 3 carries (69 and 15 yard TDs). Barkely also padded to his Heisman resume with a 42 yard TD reception. McSorley also had an outstanding game with 282 yards passing, a passing TD, and 3 rushing TDs.

Did I mention that Mike Riley will be out at Nebraska? The Huskers are 6.5 point dogs to Purdue, who just lost to Rutgers. Jeezus

Harbaugh makes $11 million a year and he is 6-5 in last 11 games. Two of his coordinators each make $1 million per year. Aaaaaaand the result of this financial extravagance? His team dropped out of the top 10, out of the top 20, and is now tied for 4th in their division with Rutgers. Roll Eyes

Been a long time since we were the favorite against a program like Nebraska. Now, all we have to do is catch balls hitting our receiver's hands, score inside the red zone, convert more 3rd downs, and keep up the good work our D is doing.

    Week 9:
Bye weeks are over so from here on out there will be 7 Big Ten games every weekend. This weekend's match ups and my WAGs:
  • Rutgers @ UofM at 11:00 AM CDT on BTN - The Wolverines are unanimously 23 point favorites. I think Vegas is in left field after the way Rutgers and UofM have both played the past two games. UofM wins by single digits (aka fails to cover).
  • #5 WI @ IL at 11:00 AM CDT on ESPN - Depending on which odds service you believe the Badgers are 27 to 27.5 point favorites. The Illini are hands down the worst team in the Big Ten which means it's real easy for the Badgers to overlook them. This is either going to be an epic beatdown or a mysteriously close game, and I'm going with the later. Badgers to win without covering (I'm thinking 10 to 12).
  • #16 MSU @ NWU at 2:30 PM CDT on ESPN - Depending on which odds service you believe the Sparties are 2.5 to 3 point favorites. Statistically, these two teams are dead even. Only common opponent is IA and both teams beat IA by 7, but the Sparties did it in regulation whereas the cats did it in OT. Also, MSU has the edge on quality wins. Therefore, I'm going with MSU to win and cover.
  • IU @ MD at 2:30 PM CDT on BTN - The Hosers are unanimously 4.5 point favorites. Another matchup with statisically even teams. Only common opponent was tOSU, and both teams were beaten mercilessly so that's not a good predictor. Both teams are on a losing streak, but the Hosers margin of loss is less. Therefore, I'm going with IU to break their losing streak and cover.
  • #2 PSU @ #6 tOSU at 2:30 PM CDT on Fox - Depending on which odds service you believe the Buckeyes are 6 to 7.5 point favorites. Another statistical dead heat. Only common opponent is IU and both teams whipped IU so that is no help. It's better for the Big Ten to have the undefeated team win so I'm going with PSU to pull off the upset.
  • MN @ IA at 5:30 PM CDT on FS1 - Depending on which odds service you believe the Hawkeyes are 7 to 7.5 point favorites. Only common opponent is IL, and IA whipped them whereas the Gophers squeeked by. Therefore, I'm going with the Hawkeyes to win, but since the Hawkeyes typically do not win by much I don't think they'll cover.
  • NE @ Purdue at 6:30 PM CDT on BTN - My Boilermakers are unanimously 4.5 point favorites. Brohm is turning things around in West Lafayette while Lincoln is endlessly talking about how Riley is going to be fired in the next 2 to 35 days. Purdue's defense is 11.5 ppg stingier than the Cornhuskers, and both teams have struggled equally on offense. I think the Boilermakers offense will finally click this week, and the D will keep up their good play. Boilermakers win and cover, and Riley fired on Sunday.

Yeah, Purdue, with a 12-43 record since 2013, is favored over Nebraska.

The only way Riley is fired after this game is if the Huskers aren’t competitive at all; AD, Bill Moos has been pretty clear that he believes a coach should finish out the season.

Nebraska comes off a bye after two humiliating home losses. This staff HAS to have them well prepared to play Purdue. If these players care anything for this coach, they’ll play their guts out for him. Nebraska by 10

I’m gonna say Ohio State wins, and I’ll guess that it’s by 7, so whether or not they cover depends on the which oddsmaker set the line.

IMO this is the B1G championship game today. Wisconsin cant beat either team in the actual title game.

    OSU wins and covers.

At half-time, PSU leads 28-17. PSU jumped off to an early start with returning the opening kick-off 97 yards for a TD then tOSU fumbles on their own 23 and PSU converted that to a TD less than 2 minutes later. PSU has lead by 18 twice (21-3 and 28-10).

tOSU is starting to look better on both sides of the ball, and it should be an interesting 2nd half.

PSU put in the "prevent" defense (aka the dumbest defense in football), and still was getting beat deep.

The last 4:20 is gonna be exciting.
