Embarrassed to be a Husker fan. If you know anything about the Blackshirt tradition at Nebraska, you'll understand the absolute frustration of watching (no longer) this Oregon track meet. They handed out 16...16! black jerseys in Lincoln (it used to be the starting 11) and they are paying the new DC, Diaco more money than they've ever paid an assistant coach--by quite a margin. Wow

Not a Nebraska fan when they play the bucks, but do root for them every other game. Not really sure why they hired the new head coach they did. He did not have as good a record as the last 2 nebraska coaches. Same with Minn. they get 10 wins and fire the coach. Big 10 has some really good coaches in the league now and will be tough to win every year now. I do not think OSU will win the league...not real confident about tonight either.

Gophers looked solid yesterday at an away game against Oregon. Fleck's team recovered from their lackluster home opener. Defense caused 3 turnovers and I have to wonder if we have found our quarterback in Rhoda.

Wow, the #2 ranked team in the nation could not score an offensive TD at home. So much for early season ratings.

Ohio States only TD was scored by the offense, a run by J.K. Dobbins.

Week 2 Wrap-up:
  • #5 Oklahoma @ #2 tOSU at 7:30 EDT on ABC. I don't want to take anything away from the Sooners because they played very good. It was a very boring first half, but one of the things that jumped out at me was OU was dominating despite the scoreboard and tOSU's D was going to be in trouble the second half due to time of possession in first half (OU 18:44, tOSU 11:16). The third quarter was a little more interesting trading touchdowns, but then the Sooners pulled away. tOSU's D needs to get some stops, but they'll get a lot more if tOSU's anemic offense starts putting together some 4 and 5 minute drives resulting in TDs.
  • Nebraska @ Oregon at 4:30 EDT on Fox. I only saw highlights of this game, but being down 42-14 at halftime was probably excruciating for Cornhusker fans. Throwing 4 INTs certainly contributed to it. I'd love to see a strong Cornhuskers team challenging Wisconsin for the Big Ten West, but I don't think it's possible with a mediocre coach like Mike Riley (at Oregon State he barely had a .500 record overall and was 58-63 in conference play).
  • Pittsburgh @ #4 PSU at 3:30 EDT on ABC. I watched a little bit of this game and the Nittany Lions dominated both sides of the ball. Having a 3rd year starter as QB bodes well for their offense. They don't have very tough matchups the next 4 weeks, but in late October they play UofM at home and tOSU on the road.
  • Iowa @ Iowa St at Noon EDT on ESPN. I was able to watch most of the first half and it was a fun back and forth game.
  • WMU @ MSU at 3:30 EDT on BTN/BTN2. The Sparties looked OK in the first half, but WMU started to rally in the 2nd half. Sparties look better than last year on both sides of the ball, but I don't see them competing for the Big Ten East championship this year.
  • MN looked very dominant against their PAC12 opponent, Oregon State. They will likely be 3-0 going into their first test on 9/30 when they host Maryland.
  • Maryland, Michigan, Wisconsin, Purdue, IU, and IL all took care of lesser teams like they were supposed to.
  • Northwestern and Rutgers surprised me with their losses. Rutgers was predicted to finish last in Big Ten and haven't done anything to disprove the hypothesis. NWU's loss surprised me as I thought they'd be the 2nd best team in the Big Ten west, but perhaps Duke is better than thought.

    Kudos:
  • Terrapins offense. 367 yards rushing, they had 5 RBs get rushing touchdowns, and put up 63 points.
  • UofM's defense. Held the Bearcats to 132 yds passing, picked off two passes, and held them to 68 yards rushing.
  • Wisconsin's J Taylor with 223 yards rushing and 3 TDs. This freshman reminds me a lot of the fast, powerful Badgers backs that made it to the NFL.
  • Iowa's QB, Nate Stanley, had 333 yards passing, 5 passing TDs, and zero interceptions.

I was out watching the Buckeyes and stated to a few friends that this was a significant game for the Bucks. This was to see if they're ready for the elite teams. Pretty much had a feeling they'd get beat.
Defense is horrible and they got exposed last night. Offense isn't much better and JT is gonna take a nasty hit sometime this season if he keeps wanting to run. Dobbins is not Zeke but time will tell how good he can be.
They're young but this is going to be a long season I fear. Lots of good teams in the Big 10 this year and it'll be tough.

I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I'm not.

I thought urban Meyer was going to fix all of Ohio State's problems after the embarrassing shut out by Clemson. At least that's what he said at the time. It appears he has a heck of a lot of more work to do... Does he keep his job after this year?

    Week 3:
Kind of a boring week in the Big Ten.
  • Purdue at Missouri at 4:00 EDT on SECN - The schedule was announced in July 2013 and it took a lot of cajones as Missouri used to be contenders in the SEC east and Purdue was coming off the failed tenure of Coach Hope. My Boilermakers are unanimously 7 point underdogs by the odds services. Given the way Missouri got crushed by South Carolina, and Purdue was still in it with 2:30 left versus a Top 15 team, I think the Spoilermakers show up and win.
  • I didn't post in time for the Friday game, but Illinois got smoked by South Florida. The D gave up 680 yards Eek and 47 points.

They were a 9 win team, riding mostly on the work of Gerry Kill who had left football the year before. More importantly, Claeys‎ was fired because of the way he handled sexual assault charges against team members.

I think PJ Fleck has the potential to be a really good coach. It will be interesting to see how they do over the next couple of years.

That backup FAR outplayed Nebraska's starting QB, who threw 2 pick 6s in the first quarter and a third pick at the end of the game. That's 6 INTs in the last two games.

Gophers are about to go to 3-0. Are they for a real football team this year, or are these first three games creampuffs?

I just don't follow the Big 10 enough.

2 of 3 are creampuffs, but then again they were a 10-4 team last year and picked up a very good coach.

You'll have a pretty good idea at the end of the month when you play Maryland. You'll definitely know in November with your brutal schedule (UofM on the road, Nebraska at home, Northwestern on the road, and Wisconsin at home).

Hot damn! Purdue is 2-1 as the Spoilermakers showed up in Columbia!

The D held the Tigers to under 200 yards of offense, and the O put up 35 points with nearly 44 minutes of possession.

    DOMINATION!!!

I was quite surprised by Alex Hornibrook today in the Badgers win. Maybe it was the strong rushing threat that opened up passing lanes or something.
