I was going to make comments, but I did not know this about your being robbed of time w/ your mother.
Peace to you Kevin.

Thanks,

I'm good with it. She is the absolute toughest woman I knew, and I am a lot like her in many way.

She HATED my career choice, but ironically, it was her influence on me that made me the person I am.

She would have understood. I think, this is actually the first time I have posted about her death here.

She was a private person, and in fact, refused to allow us to have ANY type of funeral or memorial for her.

I am heartened by the deluge of Dems condemning the Berkeley riot.

They are literally standing in line to voice their opposition to the attack on free speech.

"I've had thoughts of burning the Berkeley library", a spokesperson for the group chanted.

I'm not LEO but I have thought the very same thing. Common sense tells me that the longer you let this problem fester the harder it will be to solve. At some point it may become unsolvable. Turn the cops loose before we need the cops AND the national guard. Unfortunately gov. moon beam will have no part of a solution.

These leftist agitators tried to also shut down Gavin McInnes' speech at NYU last night.

Four Arrested at Gavin McInnes Event as Antifa Protesters Become Violent

2 Feb 2017

Four people were arrested at a New York University event where libertarian commentator and VICE co-founder Gavin McInnes delivered a speech, after “anti-fascist” protesters started to become violent and throw punches.
Following a fight, which started after protesters started to assault McInnes as he entered the venue and ended in a stolen Make America Great Again hat being set on fire, protesters followed McInnes into the venue and attempted to disrupt his show with chants.

One attendee was also attacked by anti-fascists with water as he gave an interview on camera.

“The NYU Anti-Fascists organized the event on Facebook titled ‘Disrupt Gavin McInnes at NYU’,” reported Pix 11, however unlike the riot that anti-fascists started during Breitbart Senior Editor MILO’s show at UC Berkeley on Wednesday, New York police intervened and managed to prevent a large-scale incident from taking place.

Protesters made chants of “get out of here you Nazi scum,” at McInnes, and “hurled expletives at police,” and others who attempted to either enter the venue or keep students and attendees safe.

“There’s a neo-Nazi speaking, so we’re here to protest,” said one protester who was holding a sign written in Arabic.

“We have freedom of speech in this country, however if you’re going to promote something that is hateful and hurtful to our democracy, we have a right to come out and explain why our democracy exists,” said another.

The protesters were seemingly unaware that McInnes is a libertarian, and has never been associated with neo-Nazism.

“There was a lot of shoving and scuffling and punches were thrown,” declared Pix 11 reporter Marvin Scott, who was on the scene. “Police had to move in, and they made several arrests.”

McInnes was able to finish his speech, which was interrupted throughout, without having to evacuate the building, and the crowd of protesters eventually dispersed after a warning from the police.

Far-left “anti-fascist” rioters assaulted numerous attendees, started fires, smashed up shops and ATMs, and attacked people’s cars during the riot on Wednesday night in protest of MILO’s UC Berkeley show, forcing the event to be cancelled.

Several celebrities and news outlets expressed support for the riot, including Hollywood director Judd Apatow, who deleted his tweet shortly after, and Fusion, who smeared MILO as a “Nazi,” before praising rioters.

On Thursday, MILO’s tour bus was tracked down by “anti-fascists” and vandalized, forcing both him and his team to evacuate the premises after his location was leaked online.

Well, there you have it. "WE" have freedom of speech, however if you disagree with us "YOU" don't and we're going to prove it to you.

Their argument would also go a lot further if they understood that we are not a democracy.

President Donald Trump reacted again to the aftermath of the Berkeley riots in response to a scheduled speech by Breitbart News editor Milo Yiannopoulos.

“Professional anarchists, thugs and paid protesters are proving the point of the millions of people who voted to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote on Twitter on Friday.

Rioters caused an estimated $100,000 in property damage in Berkeley on Wednesday, and only one person was arrested . Bank windows and ATMs were smashed, a Starbucks was looted, anti-Trump graffiti was painted on store fronts, Molotov cocktails were thrown, and garbage fires were lit in the streets.

On Thursday, Trump responded to the rioting by threatening to cancel federal funding for colleges that failed to protect the right of free speech.

Any bets on whether the previous administration has their hands in this? Judging by the articles detailing the inbreeding within the DoJ and DoS, it would be pretty easy money. To think all these people just packed their bags and retired is folly.

Milo Yiannopoulos says he’s going to the White House press briefing

WASHINGTON — Milo Yiannopoulos, the conservative provocateur and Breitbart News columnist, claims he is going to attend the White House press briefing on Friday.

“I’ll be there,” Yiannopoulos said in an email to Yahoo News.

Yiannopoulos said he didn’t know whether he would get to ask White House press secretary Sean Spicer a question at the briefing. He previously attended a briefing last March. Yiannopoulos asked former White House press secretary Josh Earnest about his belief that Facebook and Twitter are “punishing conservative and libertarian points of view.”

The briefing comes at the end of a week when a speech Yiannopoulos planned to deliver at University of California, Berkeley was canceled amid violent protests. President Trump responded to the demonstrations with a tweet on Thursday morning that seemed to suggest he might pull federal funds from the university.

If U.C. Berkeley does not allow free speech and practices violence on innocent people with a different point of view – NO FEDERAL FUNDS?

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 2, 2017

Yahoo News emailed Spicer to confirm Yiannopoulos would be attending the briefing on Friday and to ask if he would be allowed to ask a question. As of this writing, Spicer had not responded.

So, now we can see that the actions of the rioters in California have done great harm to their own cause, even more so than what was apparent in the immediate aftermath of the rioting.
What these imbeciles have done is put the spotlight on Milo and by this, they are helping to spread (and validate) his message.

I, as an American who loves his country, believe we need more rioting- much more of it- in order to get the attention of the disinterested people in this nation and to take a stand, and to choose a side.

Several weeks ago, a friend sent me an abstract and a link to a study/report by the National Association of Scholars. The report details how higher education has been skewed away from teaching traditional civics, including ideas of liberty and pluralistic participation.

I cancelled my subscription to the Chronicle of Higher Education years ago but this report offers a thought-provoking perspective in light of how modern college students are acting out what they are taught proper civic participation means.

Here is the abstract with links to the full report:

MAKING CITIZENS: HOW AMERICAN UNIVERSITIES TEACH CIVICS

ABSTRACT

A new movement in American higher education aims to transform the teaching of civics. This report is a study of what that movement is, where it came from, and why Americans should be concerned.

What we call the “New Civics” redefines civics as progressive political activism. Rooted in the radical program of the 1960s’ New Left, the New Civics presents itself as an up-to-date version of volunteerism and good works. Though camouflaged with soft rhetoric, the New Civics, properly understood, is an effort to repurpose higher education.

The New Civics seeks above all to make students into enthusiastic supporters of the New Left’s dream of “fundamentally transforming” America. The transformation includes de-carbonizing the economy, massively redistributing wealth, intensifying identity group grievance, curtailing the free market, expanding government bureaucracy, elevating international “norms” over American Constitutional law, and disparaging our common history and ideals. New Civics advocates argue among themselves which of these transformations should take precedence, but they agree that America must be transformed by “systemic change” from an unjust, oppressive society to a society that embodies social justice.

The New Civics hopes to accomplish this by teaching students that a good citizen is a radical activist, and it puts political activism at the center of everything that students do in college, including academic study, extra-curricular pursuits, and off-campus ventures.

New Civics builds on “service-learning,” which is an effort to divert students from the classroom to vocational training as community activists. By rebranding itself as “civic engagement,” service- learning succeeded in capturing nearly all the funding that formerly supported the old civics. In practice this means that instead of teaching college students the foundations of law, liberty, and self-government, colleges teach students how to organize protests, occupy buildings, and stage demonstrations. These are indeed forms of “civic engagement,” but they are far from being a genuine substitute for learning how to be a full participant in our republic.

New Civics has still further ambitions. Its proponents want to build it into every college class regardless of subject. The effort continues without so far drawing much critical attention from the public. This report aims to change that.

In addition to our history of the New Civics movement and its breakthrough moment when it was endorsed by President Obama, we provide case studies of four universities: the University of Colorado, Boulder (CU-Boulder), Colorado State University in Fort Collins (CSU), the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley (UNC), and the University of Wyoming in Laramie (UW).

A REPORT BY THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SCHOLARS

We make four recommendations to state legislators across the country:

1. Mandate a course in traditional American civics as a graduation requirement at all colleges and universities that receive public funding. If the institution itself is unwilling or unable to offer such a course, students must be permitted without penalty to meet the requirement by taking a qualified civics course at another institution.

2. Establish a public body to set the guidelines for the required civics course, which should at a minimum teach the history, nature, and functions of our institutions of self-government, and which should aim to foster commitment to our form of self-government. The public body should also be charged with reviewing and approving civics textbooks to be used in these courses.

3. Require that the traditional civics requirement be met only through classroom instruction. Service learning, civic engagement, or analogous extra-curricular activities will not be accepted as a substitute, supplement, or alternative.

4. End funding for service-learning and civic engagement programs and bureaucracies.

HERE is the link to PDFs of the reports, summary and other materials.

The President, administration, Congress and legislatures have the ability to do something about the mis-education of our youth.

The problem with being young sometimes is that time has yet to rack up enough experience to temper absolutist certitude.
