I alternate between a 2005 Jeep LJ (bought new) with 153K miles, or a 2009 GMC 1500 Z-71 (bought used) with 183K miles. Both paid for and I do most of my own maintenance and repairs.

Sometime in the next year after our son’s legal troubles are settled, Mrs DF and will buy a fun car. It will likely be 10+ years old.

My fun car is nearing 50 years old [next year]
Currently, wouldn't trust it for more than around 50 miles 1-way, until I can get some more wrenching time on it.

If the 355 sees DD duty, you sir are the winner.
Thought you had a 308 for some reason.

Former neighbor at our first house [starter home neighborhood] had a 91 348 Spider [Gated 5MT] and a 99 355F1 Spider.
Never did score a ride in either.

the 355 is driven in good weather only, and never above 100 degrees as the radiators have a hard time cooling when stopped at a light

the Taco is my bad weather driver, and if I need to get anything bigger than a shopping bag

you recall almost correctly - my first Ferrari was a 1988 328GTS and I drove that until it broke down on the highway and the replacement parts were unobtanium at the time. I ended up parting the car out for about twice what it was worth.

I fully understand the heat issue, as I've been stranded in the Midget 3 times due to heat, once for a bad fan clutch & the other 2 due to vapor lock. Could literally see the fuel boiling in the fuel filter. And, I imagine it would be like driving a colander in the rain Razz

2010 Honda Ridgeline. It has been extremely comfortable and mostly maintenance free. It is, however, showing it's age and I have a few rust spots on the fenders. Looking to keep it till I die (1-3 years)! I'm still in good health at 74! LOL

Just replaced mine, it was a 2009 Honda Fit Sport 5MT. Got her to 228K. Replaced with a 2013 Honda Fit Base 5MT. Only had 21,334 when I got it in September. Hopefully will get similar lifespan out of the new one, so 14ish years. Wife has 2012 Honda Odyssey with 165K.

Here in NH, rust is the usual vehicle killer. My 2009 is in solid mechanical shape, but the rust was very much a problem.

Overall, once a vehicle is unsafe or too much of a money pit/reliability issues I walk away. For costs I look at the 12 month average. Once it's approximating a payment that's it.

My daily driver was a 2012 Ford Fiesta. Except for regular maintenance, battery, oil changes, spark plugs, etc. nothing was wrong with it, never needed repairs and had over 270,000 mostly highway miles. That was until an impatient driver tried to pass a moving van going uphill on a two lane blacktop and I happened to be going up the same hill in the opposite direction. It was about noon, broad daylight. I turned a bit to the right to get out of his way and got partway onto the shoulder and he hit my left side behind my drivers door instead of a head on collision. Broke my rear axle, crumpled the door behind me and spun my car into a farmers field 50 feet from the road, he was driving about 80 in a 60. Luckily my little death trap of a car had so many airbags I only ended up with a bruised sternum and ribs from the seatbelt and a slight concussion. Now my daily driver is a 2017 RAM. It only has about 76,000 miles on it. Only bad thing I can say about it is the gas mileage. It has the 5.7 Hemi and I only get about 16mpg instead of the 35mpg I had with the Fiesta.
