The daily sedan is 20 years/260K miles. I would have no problem jumping in it and doing a cross-country trip (again) at a moment's notice. The sportscar is 25, but has less miles and is not technically a daily, although I do drive it fairly often. The truck is the youngest at 18. Late 90s/early 00s Jap cars is the sweet spot: they are advanced enough to be low maintenance, but still simple enough to be reliable and easily repaired at home.

DD is a 2014 Ram 1500 Sport Crew cab with 76,000 miles. It has the Hemi tick, but other than that uncertainty it seems to be in top condition. I'd like to by a new one, but the prices of a comparable new Ram is $75K - ridiculous! I'll keep my old one and fix it if it breaks.

It started showing sign of body rust about two years ago but its still hard to give up. I love the truck.

My life changed last year. I needed the towing capability of a turbo diesel. Didn’t want to deal with DEF so I bought a 2006 GMC Sierra. It has an Allison trans and a 6.6 liter Duramax engine. It has 227xxx miles on it. My 2010 Tundra is now Mrs DFs daily driver. It has 230xxx miles on it.

I also like not having a car payment. I maintain my vehicles preventively. In other words, I pay attention to wear items and change them before they go bad. I mostly do that work myself so it keeps the cost down. This way I get the reliability of a newer vehicle without the outrageous expense. There are many test one can do to gauge the health of a vehicle.
