A while back I got got a Fenix CL25R and it's an excellent unit. I like that in addition to the hanging handle it also has a magnet on the bottom so you can easily stick it to metal surfaces. It's very handy. Also it's tiny- an inch smaller in width and height as compared the AA Seige. And at the 350L setting it really lights up a good area for such a small size. I have a few other Fenix re-chargeable lights and I'm very impressed with the quality of their own name batteries. They have excellent run times. I like the looks of the AA Seige so ordered one as well. I like the thought of having another lantern with the common batteries. ____________ Μολὼν Λαβέ 01 03 04 14 16 18

Only the strong survive |
My game cameras use AA batteries which I get the 4 pack for $1 at Dollar Tree. But that is still a waste. The lithium-ion technology is the only way to go due to more storage energy and recharging capability. I have one of the Imuto X4 power packs which I paid $50. It is a 20 AH capacity and I noticed they are on sale now at about half that price so I may get another one: https://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=U...ef=pd_sl_5h0ogyojn_e 41

Same ones I have. If anyone picks one of those up you will need a 2.1a charger for it. It comes without any charger and I thought mine was broken until I realized that it would charge with my wall outlet USB, but not my phone plugin one. It also comes with built in flashlight on it, so that can also be handy. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

You guys convinced me to buy new LED lanterns. I ordered one of the D cell Streamlight models but I was able to find the new 540 lumen model as most places only had the older 340 lumen version. Hope to get a couple of the AA models as well once I find a good price on them. Here is the link to the new model but I purchased elsewhere for less. http://www.streamlight.com/pro...tail/index/the-siege

I would recommend Goal Zero lanterns. 400 lumen, allows you to charge your cell phone, has hand crank. Pricey but worth it. link:http://www.goalzero.com/p/379/lighthouse-400-lantern-usb-power-hub

We have two of these from Costco too. They have worked well. We use them camping FWIW. __________________________

Just for the hell of it |
Make sure you get something with adjustable power settings. I have two LED lanterns. One was a cheap Amazon and while it is bright that is the only setting. I also have a set of these I got with some outdoor gear. It's a 5-foot rope/string of led lights with a USB plug on one end. Just plug it into any USB power pack. https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod...ailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1 _____________________________________ Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. I'm glad I found this thread. I live in earthquake country and I realized the only emergency lighting I have are flashlights and candles. I ended up ordering a couple of the Streamlight Seige lanterns after reading through this thread.

Wal-Mart has a new line of lanterns, that look good for the price. $8 AA model https://www.walmart.com/ip/Oza...523085&wl13=&veh=sem Same flashlight at Amazon for $13 https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod...ilpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 And if you want the $15 Wal-Mart alternative to the D model Siege, this is a good value for the dollar. Takes 3 D batteries, and has similar run time to the Siege. https://www.walmart.com/ip/OT-...UprxuNZEAzTK4omBW1RM Or the $25 deluxe lantern. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Oza...TK4omBW1RM#read-more Or the $29 rechargeable lantern. https://www.walmart.com/ip/OT-...TK4omBW1RM#read-more ______________________________________________________ Often times a very small man can cast a very large shadow

I really dont know. Streamlight claims the AA battery model will run for 37 hours on alkalines on low. So probably similar. I keep a stack of rechargeable AA batteries at the house, so that's what I run in them. The new Eneloop batteries last 10 plus years and can be charged over 2000 times. I highly recommend them. https://www.amazon.com/Panason...ords=eneloop+charger D Spacers so you can use AA or D batteries. https://www.amazon.com/Panason...Y6WA1RBQ4FWTWG7S5QNF ______________________________________________________ Often times a very small man can cast a very large shadow

In addition to the lanterns I have these flashlight combo shoplight. The batteries are internal and last around 5 hours straight in shoplight mode. They're $30 and magnetic so will attach to something. The best is they use an android charger, so I have 2 and can recharge them in my car if the power is out. A Slyde king, the regular slyde uses AA's or AAA's I can't remember. https://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=U...f=pd_sl_29ysco3rd3_e

Puzzle. This Amazon link is for a Streamlight 44931 Siege lantern, Coyote, with C4 LED technology. It says that the maximum brightness is 340 Lumens. https://www.amazon.com/Streaml...ds=siege+streamlight This Streamlight link is for a Streamlight 44931 Siege lantern, Coyote, with C4 LED technology. It says that the maximum brightness is 540 Lumens. 200 more that the Amazon link says. http://www.streamlight.com/pro...tail/index/the-siege Both links seem to describe the same product, but state different max light intensities. What’s the deal? Serious about crackers

The 540 lumens is most likely a newer version. LED technology keeps evolving fairly quickly.
