Mahoney said the homeowner was not around at the time of the shooting and that the son called law enforcement shortly after the shooting.
So, if this is correct, dad the homeowner was not there. Initial reports indicated the shooter was not alone, and reports later in the day indicated that the second person was the shooter's father.

I always tell my wife the same thing. The police are the good guys but they aren't necessarily your friends in a shooting situation. You say two things to the police if you use deadly force. You were in fear for your life and you will make a statement but not until your lawyer gets here.

Maybe that is bad advice, maybe its not. But it is my family and my money so that is the best I got.

Anyone else annoyed by the media calling him "the homeowners son"?

I'm assuming the guy lives there, so if that's correct, wouldn't it just be "resident of home shoots intruders"?

I don't see a problem. He lives there, so what? He is the son of the person who actually owns the home.

We had one a few years ago. Kid called and said someone is banging on his window. While on the phone with dispatch you can hear the kid telling the person to go away or he will shoot. The guy breaks in through the window and is shot twice by the resident. Our guys get there, talk to the kid (he was early 20s), take the gun and the perp gets taken to the hospital. In no way whatsoever was it on anyone's mind to arrest the kid. We're not like the media and internet portrays.

Not minority enough!

I've thought this for a long time. I went to a very small High School of approximately 600 students for grades 8-12. 134 people were in my graduating class. Point is, everyone knew everyone. Over the years we lost several to car accidents and hunting accidents. At most, we might get a few hours off school to attend the funeral. But then, we had small budgets and couldn't afford teams of psychologists to shut the school down for three days and talk everything out. Always amazed me how devastated schools with thousands of kids were and how they always needed teams of grief counselors when someone died. I believe a lot rests in societal expectation.

Fact is, if you use justified deadly force, you won't get in these jackpots. We've had four in six months. Not a single charge. Not one.

But, there is money to be made by some gun writers, concealed carry organizations, and the like spreading fear.

Fear does sell.

Thank you for your perspective. That point of view is seen too seldom.

I believe I read in the UK Daily Mail they expect said woman was the leader of the gang.

If you had bothered to read the first sentence from the article in the first post in this thread.

How could you miss that?

At this point, I have to wonder if I'm being trolled. Are you trolling me, man? It's either that, or you didn't have the courtesy to read anything but the subject line of this thread.

Gentlemen, before you post to a thread, READ THE THREAD.

I'm going to keep saying this, OK? I'm going to keep saying it until members demonstrate that they have read the thread and are therefore not cluttering up the thread with information already posted.

Yeah you bet. Best defense money can buy. Whatever Cheaper than Dirt is pushing must be great stuff. If a law firm has to advertise you gotta wonder.
