From the article:

Federal health agencies on Tuesday called for an immediate pause in use of Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose coronavirus vaccine after six recipients in the United States developed a rare disorder involving blood clots within about two weeks of vaccination.

All six recipients were women between the ages of 18 and 48. One woman died and a second woman in Nebraska has been hospitalized in critical condition.

Blood clots are one thing, deaths are another. The question is why hasn’t the gubbamint paused the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines because of their problems?...

My fiancé was scheduled for it on Friday. She canceled because she was worried about side effects ruining our weekend plans. It was rescheduled for this week. She just canceled it.

These go to eleven.

Great. Back to MRNA being the only option. Guess I'm waiting a while because I'm not taking those.

I was supposed to get the J&J shot today at 9:15am but got an e-mail this morning that the J&J vaccine has been pulled over safety concerns. "Unexplained illnesses" or something like that. I ended up getting my first Moderna shot. I get the second one on May 11.

We're all just guinea pigs at this point.

True. If your not worried about Covid itself due to the low death rate, do the math on this one. Literally, less than one in a million.
Besides, at this point these are side effects, not deaths.

Blood clots sound a bit more serious than the chills or joint pain that are side effects of the other two. Don’t know if it means anything, but the Pfizer and Moderna reported side effects show up 12-24 hours after the shot, and go away after a day or so. The J&J blood clots are showing up 1-2 weeks after the shot.

It’s interesting that J&J and AZ are viral vector vaccines and both have reported blood clotting problems, while the two mRNA vaccines haven’t reported this problem.

It's way more than six. I've been hearing about this blood clotting issue for months from people working in hospitals and in the medical field.

I agree. Risks are low. The only issue has been some cases of blood clots. I would consider this information if you got the J & J vaccine recently:

Does 81 mg aspirin prevent blood clots?
Aspirin slows the blood's clotting action by reducing the clumping of platelets. Platelets are cells that clump together and help to form blood clots. Aspirin keeps platelets from clumping together, thus helping to prevent or reduce blood clots.

So if I had received the J & J vaccine recently I think I would consider taking low dose aspirin for a few weeks. But I would check with my doctor first. I don't give medical advice. Just throwing some information out there. Consider this at your own risk and recommend checking with your doctor first if you choose to do that.

EDIT - PLEASE READ. Another member (BMR) has weighed in on this subject. I'm glad I suggested checking with your doctor first. Here is his post:

You might want to check with your doctor first. I sent an inquiry to mine this morning regarding whether to take a low dose aspirin, having been vaccinated with the the J&J last Friday. His response was:

“No, this type of clotting is actually associated with low platelets, a clotting factor that aspirin interferes with . So taking aspirin would be a problem. The good news is that this is very very very rare and unlikely to occur. I appreciate your concern, but taking aspirin is not advised.”

So THANK YOU BMR for sharing this information.

Hey, I can only tell you what I was hearing. I have the text messages to prove it. When I mentioned it before, people dismissed it. Fine. My evidence was completely anecdotal anyway so I myself didn't give it too much credence. But yet here we are today.

For months? Plural? It was only granted emergency authorization for use at the beginning of February. So it's only been distributed for less than a month-and-a-half.

N.B.: I'm not arguing in favor of the J&J vaccine, or any of them. I'm just sayin'...

I started hearing about it the end of January. The vaccines in general. No idea which kind they were talking about actually, whether the J&J or otherwise.

crazy times.

give 7 million people a shot -- any shot.

what are the odds afterwards a handful will develop blood clots?? pretty good i imagine -- statistically

correlation / causation etc

the thing is we are giving these relatively untested vaccines to millions and millions of people with literally every possible co-morbidity and pre-existing condition under the sun. bound to be issues.

in the end everyone must do their own calculus on this predicament. in my opinion pushing the vaccines on 'all americans' --- all age groups - even the young (say under 50) and healthy was / is a bit premature

we shall see

Sooo, Blood Clots are a 'side effect' of the Vaccine....And guess what, Heart Attacks and Strokes are a 'side effect' of Blood Clots! Eek

I'm simply amazed at some of the statements posted in these threads! Wake Up People!

Australia abandons COVID-19 vaccination targets after new advice on AstraZeneca shots

Possible link between AstraZeneca product and rare cases of blood clots prompts country to stop using vaccine

Australia has abandoned a goal to vaccinate nearly all of its 26 million population by the end of 2021 following advice that people under the age of 50 take Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine rather than AstraZeneca's shot.

Australia, which had banked on the AstraZeneca vaccine for the majority of its shots, had no plans to set any new targets for completing its vaccination program, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said in a Facebook post on Sunday afternoon.

"While we would like to see these doses completed before the end of the year, it is not possible to set such targets given the many uncertainties involved," Morrison said.

Authorities in Canberra changed their recommendation on Pfizer shots for under-50s on Thursday, after European regulators reiterated the possibility of links between the AstraZeneca shot and reports of rare cases of blood clots.

Australia, which raced to double its order of the Pfizer vaccine last week, had originally planned to have its entire population vaccinated by the end of October.
