precisely.

I was mowing several neighborhood yards all through middle school, then worked fast food all through high school, stuck with wearing the least flattering uniforms one can imagine, working real jobs from around 12yo on, starting at the bottom, managing my affairs and clients and sometimes people, a lower middle class white kid, driving a piece of shit and decidedly uncool car (and still got laid like a champ) that I bought myself for cash, paid my own insurance, and did the jobs that're now performed by illegal immigrants far too often. these jobs have been performed by Americans before and they will be again if the illegal immigrants are removed from the equation... and not overnight, but it will return to normal at some point.

Every time I see him in the news, I am reminded of the character from "The Godfather":

"Mike! You do not come to Las Vegas and talk to a man like Moe Greene like that"

When I hear people say that, or something to that effect, I tell them "Well how do you know it won't work, we've never tried it."

It's inconceivable to me that so many people believe we can't build a 1900 mile wall and deport illegal immigrants. A country that put a man on the moon, that built a interstate highway system of almost 50,000 miles, somehow can't build a 1900 mile wall. Hogwash.

Exactly.

I'm damn tired of hearing what we "can't" do. If I had a dollar for everything I've done that somebody told me I "can't" do, I'd have . . . well, several dollars.

My grandfather had a saying I was quite fond of: "Can't never did"

I didn't understand it when I was very young. Just thought it was another of his backwoods old-timer-isms that was a double negative and didn't explain much.

Later in life, I came to understand the true meaning of it; something very similar inversely to the SAS saying "Who dares wins"

I think my grandfather and the Don would have gotten along like a house on fire (another of his favorites). Smile

Trump suing NBC and now owning the pagent is classic Trump. Lefties say well what's he going to do as president?? He can't sue the world!!
My response is what do you think he wants a strong military for? He will project his will through strength. Good or bad of course.
The military will be his international team of lawyers.
When he says he will rebuild the military I believe him. Hell, if he were president I'd want to re up! Big Grin

Watched him on Fallon last night. One of his responses had me laughing my ass off. He was asked about his individual republican opponents. His response, "There is no difference between them."

Good move by Trump. Rather than personal attacks go passive aggressive. The rose in the fisted glove. Cool

There is no difference from one R candidate to another. They are all crafted, "put together", by the same handlers from the RNC. "Build a wall?? Why, no one can build a wall. A wall is by definition the thing that cannot be built!"

That is what killed Scott Walker. They are all little wind-up RNCbots.

Except Donald Effing Trump. "I'll build the wall. And Mexico will pay for it."

If we build the wall, they'll figure out how to go over it, under it, through it, and around it. There are sections of wall already up, and they still make it through.

That also doesn't deal with the ones already here, and the ones that come from different directions and means. IIRC 40% of illegals come on various visas, and just stay.

If you want to deal with the illegal alien problem, you have to make it impossible for them to function here. I've put out ways that this could be done, and I routinely get flamed because people think (falsely) that it would be impinging on their rights.

Yes, if the illegal aliens bring up artillery, tanks and air power - the border fence (not military fortification) would probably be in trouble! Roll Eyes

Well, hell, let's give up. Let's not even try. Roll Eyes I think it's understood that a wall - which could take several forms depending on the location and terrain, not necessarily literally a wall - is only one component of border security.

They don't even have to dodge walls or anything along massive stretches of the border, and border agents have been prevented from doing their jobs. Thousands are literally walking across the border daily.

With a fence/wall and border agents told to actually do their jobs, it will shut off the spicket. Sure, a few will make it across, but the tide will be stemmed.

When you shut off the ability for illegals to send their money back home and start actually deporting illegals who are found, they will 'deport' themselves.

This idea that it can't be done is ridiculous. Of course it can be done, if the will to do it is in place.

Put the Seabees to work on it, give them an unlimited budget and authorize the clerk of each US District court to summarily shoot any person who presents for filing a complaint alleging environmental impact reports have not been prepared, filed, approved or, if they have, are inadequate and incomplete.

Building a virtually impenetrable wall is doable, but not with environmental impact report approvals and litigation, not in our lifetimes anyway.

Nice defeatest attitude. You are right, fixed defenses are worthless. All of our COP's and FOB's in AFG should have no walls around them. No HECSO barriers. Totally useless. Do you have a fence around your property? A door to your house? Remove them now. Totally worthless.

Defeatism isn't figuring out that a proposed method of doing something isn't going to work, and trying to find something that will.

Fixed defense can't generally just be emplaced and abandoned. They need to be overwatched, and usually significantly. This is going to require a huge amount of resources both to set up and to guard continuously. And there are places where this is being done, and we're still getting significant infiltration. And also, this only takes care of illegals coming over the southern border. That's only part of the problem

What I'm saying is that if we REALLY want to solve the problem, this isn't going to do it. We need ways of keeping them from functioning in society when they get in, or if they're already it. But doing that will likely impinge on what some people see as their own rights (whether there's any real basis for that, or not.)
