Taking Trump Seriously

Donald Trump has made the cover of Rolling Stone and it's actually worth the read. Besides his Carly Fiorina quip which everyone in the press is running with it's actually a decent primer on the Donald. Of course it's Rolling Stone so I don't think I need to add any warnings of bias here.

His grand-dad sounds a lot like Al Swearengen from Deadwood

A Presidential campaign is going to be expensive and whether and how he'll have enough to go the distance is a valid concern.

Another from the other side of the fence. Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumkins. Instead of the usual brain dead knee jerk reaction some brain cells seem to be at play here.

http://www.rollingstone.com/mu...haos-theory-20150904

quote:
“What I think is cool is Trump’s running chaos theory. He’s forcing a lot of things out in the open, so they can’t control this… It’s like the music business, everybody gets controlled, and somebody comes along who f— it all up. I think it’s good that he’s f— it up, because whether or not he’s the guy, obviously the political class doesn’t want him there. It’ll open it up to a bigger dialogue.

“It’s just like rock n roll. It gets boring, and it needs to be… Whether you agree or not, the viewers for that debate were 24 million. It was eight times higher than the first Republican debate of the last cycle. That means people are engaged.

“I would argue at this point, is there any difference between politics and entertainment? I don’t think there’s any difference any more. We get what we pay for, when we hash tag stuff that doesn’t matter, right?”

What are Boehner and McConnell if not the faces of death? As certainly as was the powdered-wigged, rouged, perfumed face of Louis XVI.

Fake tan, half in the bag, blubbering in front of the cameras-- when that is the face of your party-- dig the hole, your party is dead.

Fox is getting desperate, the headline on the front page: "THE LAST STRAW? Candidates condemn Trump for Fiorina attack"

The people that will get upset were already upset to begin with. Makes no difference.

The one thing he has to watch is stuff like personal comments
about people, as here we have a no personal attack on things like
weight, color, creed, many folks don't like that stuff, hopefully his
handlers can help reign that part in, be contentious, fine, tell people to piss off, fine, stir it up and have at it, but beware certain lines you cross.

I just read the above quote in another thread here on the forum and it made me laugh how people get their drawers in a wad when Trump sounds off. So far, I think Trump still has a ways to go to top this one.

True. He should save those comments for days he's not currently in the headlines. Oh wait, he already figured that out. Wink

(I know that's not what you meant, but it's clearly in his nature to make those kinds of comments.)

I believe that quote by Truman was said after he was out of office, and not publicly made.

Truman did have a life long habit of speaking his mind, though.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

The only way left for Fiorina, Jindahl, Huckabee and the rest of them to get any media attention is to have Trump insult them.
I bet a lot of people who before didn't even realize Fiorina was a female do now.

Trump has taken every single molecule of oxygen out of the campaign for himself.

I just got a couple Trump Make America Great Again hats and wore one out to do a few errands. Had two people ask me where I got it. I'm in Minnesota and they didn't try to run me out of town at least! Razz

^^Two months ago, the commies wouldn't have bothered with creating a meme like that. Not the part of people "escaping". I'm talking about the idea of Trump as president. Two months ago, the idea of a Trump presidency was out of the question, but now...

...they're scared. Cool

This is a potential problem for Trump. It's not that people will become angry with him for not being PC, they will just get tired of it. He cannot become "the guy who insults people." The open border, the Iran "deal," the way China screws us over in trade-- he has gotten all the support because we are angry and fed up with these important matters-- and, in general, with corrupt Washington politicians who do not represent our interests AT ALL.

It's not about Carly Fiorina's face.

Knock it off, Donald.

Stay on track. It goes all the way to the White House.

I dunno - Donald J. Rickles made a living off of insults for a LOT of years and he was kinda lovable in a pain-in-the-ass way!

Don Rickles might have been right about that. Because every time the media jumps on Trump for insulting somebody, his poll numbers go UP. And what might explain it is what Rickles said: He's different. He doesn't apologize and grovel. And the sense we get is that he's letting it all hang out. He's not-- like all the others-- presenting a focus-grouped image that is sanitized and manipulated by his handlers. He's Donald Fuckin' Trump. Okay, he's rude. Arrogant. Bombastic. But that's who he is, that is Trump warts and all.

The media will get tired of trying to milk this--with no success-- before the people get tired of it.

Thinking more about it, I take back what I said about this being a potential weakness for Trump. Maybe it is his strength.

I don't want Trump, but that fact that he scares the shit out of those Bolshies, it warms the cockles of my heart. I got some friends and family that are tight/moist in the shorts for Bernie Sanders, and if they're not gushing on about him, they're scared out of their wits of the idea that Trump could be president. Just fucking terrified. It's funny, it amuses me, and I revel in it, and I giggle.

Just build the damn fence.
If you are here illegally, you are a criminal and must be deported.
Anchor babies do NOT have birthright citizenship under the 14th amendment.
Why is this difficult?

I don't really want trump as President, although this is all still very entertaining.
I would prefer a Constitutional Conservative, like Cruz.
However, if Trump is the only way to beat Jeb, then so be it. I'll take Trump over Jeb.
