"Uh, I got nothing Bob"
Yep. Honestly though, how do you control the uncontrollable? Trump doesn't play by any established rules, he funds his own campaign so he doesn't have to worry about what donors think, he's unapologetic regardless the issue, no issue(s) are off the table, he answers questions in plain speak rather than obfuscating, and he is without compassion when it comes to dealing with adversaries.

When you're as weak as the GOP and its establishment water bearers, you have no defense against the strategy Trump is executing. None. Their only hope is that Trump blunders or burns out because Jeb doesn't have the rocks to knock him down.

Just loving this thread more and more everyday. Wink

I totally agree with Para's post above. Unless Trump flames himself out the GOP will be dead to the masses if he is not the nominee.

I say great!

He's giving a press conference right now. He's great to listen to. Unlike that phony Obama or Hillary or Jeb. He was asked about gun control in lieu of the recent Virginia murders. He answered it well I think. He said it was terrible and something needs to be done, however he went on to say that it's not about the gun. It's about "this" and he pointed towards his head. "It's about mental instability."

Actually I could only read the first few sentences. You can see how clever he thinks he is with his language-- it's like watching verbal masturbation. Can't you see him and his Chamber of Commerce pals at the cocktail party this afternoon.... "'Every sulphurous belch'! Oh gosh, that was a good one, George! You wag you." "Yes-- haw haw haw-- that was cheeky wasn't it?"

But the funniest part is the title: Trump could kill Republican chances? Like we give a shit about "Republican chances."

For the most part, I think you are right about George Will. However, I did like this part:

"For conservatives, this is the dispiriting irony: The administrative state's intrusiveness (e.g., its regulatory burdens), irrationalities (the tax code's toll on economic growth), incompetence (Amtrak, ethanol, etc.) and illegality (we see you, IRS) may benefit the principal architect of this state, the Democratic Party.

This is because the other party's talented critics of the administrative state are being drowned out by Trump's discovery that Americans disgusted by government can be beguiled by a summons to Caesarism."

It's still a long way out. I would like to hear more from Ted Cruz....

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Its nice to finally know where he stands. Im to the point where I feel comfortable voting for him if he wins the GOP nomination.

I asked about his stance at the beginning of this thread and I was belittled because he wasn't a serious candidate then. Confused

Trump has certainly swayed a few minds in the past two months, I must say. My perceptions have no doubt narrowed.

Caesarism. Roll Eyes You're not just attacking Trump you're attacking an energized, motivated and pissed off GOP electorate. When was the last time we saw something like this with the GOP? A real superstar. (That's right Reagan) You wish one of your boys had the kind of grassroots support and energy he enjoys. The GOP has a real chance at going to the White House and you want us to keep supporting your milquetoast candidate? Instead of attacking Trump tell us how you're going to win with a limp dick.

This is the second such comment I've seen in this thread in the last few pages.

Shall we have all you guys who want to say "I told you so" form a line? The rest of us can then go down the line and personally apologize to each of you. We can make sure that everyone not only apologizes to you, but also gives you looks of admiration, awe and respect.

Would that cover it?

No, not looking for anything. Not trying to rub anyone's nose in anything.

It was a comment made to participate in the thread. A comment that I was genuinely curious about.

Im just glad that more & more people have come around to accepting Trump as a serious candidate. He is direct, energetic & unapologetic.

It's not that I like Trump per se, it's that I have the despise for career politicians.

I really hope Trump doing well will encourage other successful business men, who love their country, to step forward & we run the weak ass liberal Republicans out.

Most people I know are in the "screw you" camp. If Trump doesn't get the GOP nomination, the Dems are going to win again very likely.

Now we need to replace the congressional members who
are Rhinos, old guard, and out of step with people
who are in line with Trumps way of thinking, not all of them
because having dissent and discussion generally improves
the quality of the product at the end, we don't want a bunch
of "yes men".

But it would be nice to dump the Boner, McCon-el et al crews out on their behinds.

one of the negative consequences of our two party system and similar Us vs Them constructs is the tendency for some to become focused on the idea and identity of "their team" and "their position" and "the game" rather than the true objective(s).

the GOP and its key players and pundits are only useful or even relevant insofar as they facilitate certain ideas being represented in American politics vis a vis the election of such candidates who ultimately carry out Conservative ideological objectives as best they can.

the Roves, Bushs, Boehners, Wills, Krauthammers, Kellys, and others of the GOP "team" have demonstrated time and time again that they do not have the broader objectives which benefit the country at the top of their list of priorities, instead - they mostly serve themselves.

this whole thing with Trump is revealing these truths to a broader audience, shining much needed light into dark and dusty corners, and you can see how it makes these folks, the so called establishment, very, very nervous. all of which is fantastic on a variety of levels.

Donald Trump Says He and ‘Friend’ Ted Cruz Are ‘Doing Something Very Big Over the Next Two Weeks in Washington’

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he and Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), also a GOP candidate, are joining forces to do “something very big over the next two weeks in Washington.”

Speaking to reporters following a campaign rally in South Carolina, Trump said the event will essentially be a “protest” of the Obama administration’s “totally incompetent” nuclear deal with Iran. He also called Cruz a “friend of mine” and a good guy.”

“By the way, even if you break it up, they are going to get $150 billion,” he said. “You know what I’d do? I wouldn’t give them the money. I don’t care what the deal — I would not give them the money.”

The Cruz campaign later told TheBlaze that the Texas Republican “has invited Donald Trump to join him on the Capitol grounds for a rally to call on members of Congress to defeat the catastrophic deal that the Obama Administration has struck with the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Campaign spokesman Catherine Frazier said the event will be sponsored by Tea Party Patriots, Center for Security Policy, and the Zionist Organization of America.

“We are thankful for all their hard work on this effort and will have more details on time, date, and location as they are finalized,” she added.

Cruz is the only one of the other candidates who gets it - he has played it as well as it could have been played to this point.
