The court holds that a former president has absolute immunity for his core constitutional powers.
Former presidents are also entitled to at least a presumption of immunity for their official acts.
There is no immunity, the court holds, for unofficial acts.

Justice Thomas writes a concurring opinion in which he questions the validity of Jack Smith's appointment as special counsel. "If this unprecedented prosecution is to proceed, it must be conducted by someone authorized to do so by the American people."

https://www.scotusblog.com/202...s-for-monday-july-1/

As Bloomberg notes, the decision 'all but ensures' that a trial won't happen in Trump's classified documents case before the November election.

The justices, voting 6-3 along ideological lines, said a federal appeals court was too categorical in rejecting Trump’s immunity arguments, ruling for the first time that former presidents are shielded from prosecution for some official acts taken while in office. The majority ordered the lower courts to revisit the case to decide the extent of the allegations that are off limits to prosecution.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I think it has a lot to do with being inculcated to trust the institutions. Doctors have to trust the system that brings them new and better treatments. They have to trust the information in the medical journals. Likewise, attorneys have to trust in their sources.

The mainstream media would be one of those institutions which in the past was generally reliable. Same with the FBI, CDC, etc.

Thus there is a strong mental bias to accept what they've been seeing in the media about Trump since 2015 as true. If all they see is a daily news show in the MSM, they are going to be confident in their very misinformed opinion.

That the President has immunity for official acts in Office just seems obvious to me. But of course, 6-3.

BHO and Biden should be happy about this ruling (because it protects them too), but I'm sure they'll feign anger and disappointment... AND want to pack the court. Roll Eyes

Their talking points are also 'Record PROFITS!!11!11!' I try to use simple math to explain how inflation will also make their profits appear higher, but then they deflect to 'CEO SALARY!!!11!!!'. I then point out that if they took the CEOs salary and divided it equally between all the employees they may each have enough for a Snickers bar (oh no - big corporate candy) after the government steals almost 50% of it. To which they respond - "we'll have to agree to disagree"

I'm sorry but I don't agree-to-disagree with fucking simpletons that spout marxist propaganda and can't do basic math.

I'm actually now somewhat concerned that a leftist nut will actually try to assassinate Trump, since everything else they have tried has failed.

Not going to happen. But, even if they try, not going to be successful, and it will only serve to boost Trump's popularity 10-fold.

Leftists are the same the world over. Any means to seize or retain powerful is acceptable to them. History has proven it time and again.

Some day in this country, it's going to be necessary to fight these people, not because we want it, but rather, because they insist upon it. They're not going to have it any other way, and then it will be necessary for us to accommodate them. It's only a matter of time.

I’ve been saying that the only solution to deal with these socialists is by violence.

They will not go peacefully, and you cannot bargain with them any more than you can bargain with cancer and expect it to just stop.

They must be excised.

What surprises me a bit is how many folks out there (some of whom I once considered to be intelligent, high functioning folks) just take on face value whatever comes out of the station they watch on the boob tube or whatever websites they frequent on the web.

There has always been bias in media, but they used at least try to hide it and appear to be showing both sides of an issue. Since 24 hour cable news, and even more so the Internet, it is all totally slanted propaganda and any actual true fact seems to only slip through by accident. A sane person has to run any media they consume through a bias filter. These are the guys on “my team”, doesn’t mean they’re telling the unvarnished truth, it means they are tilting things in a way that I generally agree with. Now to go find a different source, use the appropriate bias filter for it, and see if I can build a general idea of what the actual truth of the matter might be. It is a pain, but one has always had to sanity check things they learn.

One can certainly be forgiven for looking around and think the old saw about world IQ being constant* is true.

*”Total World IQ is constant. The population is increasingly dramatically. You do the math.”

Merely attempting to discuss such matters with “fucking simpletons” is futile, which I try to avoid for the most part.

When a “fucking simpleton” is trying to convince me that FJB’s ‘bidenomics’ is awesome and that their stock and retirement portfolios are doing great, I will politely ask them (as best I can) how exactly they use their investment tools to purchase gas at the pump and groceries at the store on a day-to-day or week-to-week basis.

If I am feeling particularly ornery, I’ll also ask them (in a maybe slightly agitated tone) how Unicorn Farts and Magic Fairy Dust are going to produce energy, prosperity and security for a nation that is killing it’s power generation capacity without a viable and realistic replacement alternative.

These ‘conversations’ usually don’t too long.

And once again the Left proves that, from Marx, Stalin, Hitler, Mao and Mussolini, to Castro, Pol Pot, the Kim Jongs and the DNC, they never change who they are, no matter what mask they wear.

She's an idiot but I like it.

All the SCOTUS said today was that members of Excutive branch enjoy absolute immunity for official acts. It also said that immunity for unofficial acts doesn't exist, and it punted back to the trial judge to develop the record so establish which acts are official or not and why.

It has the practical effect of delaying any trials beyond the general date but it's not a foregone conclusion that at some point, way down the road, there won't be an actual trial on unofficial acts.
