I’d take JD way before Carson for all the reasons Kurt Schlichter mentioned. For one thing, it would be highly entertaining to see him eviscerate Kamala in in the debates.

One thing to remember about JD Vance- he was a staunch Never-Trumper for the first couple of years of Trump's presidency, also slamming him during his 2016 campaign. Calling Trump "reprehensible", "cultural heroin" and "America's Hitler", in the middle of Trump's first term, he softened his view, then later apologizing to Trump after leaving office.

I did not realize Pompeo had been that way. Never mind on Pompeo, then, and I appreciate the explanation.

Whereas Ben Carson has NEVER wavered in his support of Trump.

There’s a clip of Trump and (Logan?) Paul doing a fake weigh in stand off that is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time.

Little worried about Trump. He flinched first. Big Grin

Sounds like something worth trying. It would certainly necessitate a substantial reduction in the size of government.

So of course they're trying to say it only benefits the top 1% of earners and hurts the middle and lower class the most.

These fucking people, I swear. So transparent. Roll Eyes

Removing the income tax and replacing it with a tariff on imports would essentially be a “consumption tax” on foreign goods correct?

I am all for it! I have had some sort of payroll job with taxes deducted since I was 15. I deal with so many folks that have never actually worked a day in their life and their houses and apartments are stacked with Nike shoes, clothes, every video game system and games stacked to the ceiling.

I am all for it. “The rich” would be paying way more than the “lower class and middle class” because they buy a ton more stuff.

That article says:
quote:
since tens of millions of Americans who pay no federal income taxes would presumably fall under Trump’s tariff plan, “this sounds like a huge tax increase on the lower/middle income classes.”

I am middle class and pay way too much in income taxes, way too much!!!! These lower class folks aren’t working and I take issue with that. So if I understand correctly how this will work and unless the tariff is some astronomical percentage I am pretty sure I would be all for it.

Correct. Only about half the people in this country pay federal income taxes.

Taxation works best when widely and evenly applied. The graduated income tax hits the middle and striving to be upper-middle the hardest. For many, it's actually a dis-incentive to work because they can make more on "public assistance" than a low-wage job.

This has to change.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

One of my part time employees asked me what happened to the quarterly bonus. Told him it was on the check this week. He was expecting the full amount. Government hit him for 27%. My advice was, “Think about this when you vote. Don’t vote for the guy promising to tax the rich cause it eventually reaches you too. Vote to reduce taxes and government spending.”

The economy was great under Trump. Inflation is a monster tax. Who caused it? I may have created a constitutionalist.

We get a yearly payout of excess sick hours. They used to just tack it on to our standard check and it was absolutely decimated.

Now they cut add a separate check on an off pay period week. It helps a little.

Not really...
Your income tax is based on a calendar year, so unless it's paid in another year it doesn't affect your tax liability.

I am lower class, being disabled and unable to work. My wife lost her good job during the COVID scamdemic and has been unable to replace it, mostly due to her age, so she works part-time as a school crossing guard. Neither one of us pay any income tax as we fall below the threshold. A tariff on imports wouldn't negatively affect us too much, as long as it's not "astronomical" as you put it.

Therefore when some of you guys complain about the lower class not working and just living on gubbermint subsidies, remember that not all of us a ABLE to work! I assure you, I absolutely WOULD love to have my old office job back if I simply could, or any other job for that matter, but those days are gone...

I’m with you bronicabill. I make $25k in medical retirement from my policing job of 18 years due to my stroke. When I turn 60 I can get my USCG reserve retirement, and then I will feel better.
