That's not exactly how it works. It's up to the State legislatures. If enough States refuse to certify so that no one gets 270 electoral votes... then it goes to the House. Question: each State has their own method of certification. In Kentucky, the Sec’y of State verifies election results. Not a problem for Kentucky, as the outcome was never in doubt, and the SOS-KY is Republican. KY Legislature has specific dates of when to be in session unless called by Gov for a Special Session. But what of the “battleground States”. How are they certifying it? Is it Sec’y of State or someone else? Are the Legislatures in those States, called into a Special Session to verify, or are they in a permanent Session? From Just The News- Michigan's largest county fails to certify election results over absentee ballot concerns The elections board in Wayne County, Michigan's largest metropolis and home to the city of Detroit, failed Tuesday night to certify the results of its Nov. 3 election, injecting new drama into a legal fight waged by President Trump's campaign in several battleground states. The Wayne County Board of Canvassers deadlocked 2-2, with both Republican members refusing to certify the results after discrepancies were discovered in absentee ballot poll books. Similar problems were discovered in the county's summer primary and the November 2016 election but did not impact the board's vote then. Under Michigan law, a county that fails to canvass within 14 days after the election must yield its documentation to the Secretary of State's office and Board of State Canvassers to determine if the results should be accepted. The dramatic deadlock came just a week after a city of Detroit elections worker named Jessy Jacob submitted an affidavit saying she personally witnessed and was instructed by supervisors herself to back date absentee ballots the day after the election to make votes look like they had arrived on or before Nov. 3. Jacob testified she believed thousands of ballots had been altered. Tuesday's decision led to partisan bickering almost immediately. Wayne County Canvassing Board Vice Chairman Jonathan Kinloch, slammed his two GOP colleague's actions as "reckless and irresponsible," according to the Detroit News. Chairwoman Monica Palmer, a Republican, said the refusal to certify results was based on the fact that she and her GOP colleague "believe that we do not have complete and accurate information in those poll books." Jenna Ellis, a senior legal adviser for the Trump campaign, immediately hailed the decision, telling a Just the News-Real America's Voice special on Tuesday night that it could impact the entire state of Michigan's ability to certify the results. The most powerful nation in the world with an election system that would embarrass a banana republic and at least half the country doesn't know or care. Forgotten votes? On a flash drive? Just this info alone should render an election null and void. If the people that work and manage these elections are at best that stupid and careless or at worst committing fraud, you can't have a fair and accurate election. It's impossible. We should put the pressure on. Whatever decision is made, the votes should be reviewed in detail over the next 6 weeks. Anyone who certified false votes should be prosecuted. Make the people certifying the state vote be held accountable. Very accountable. | |||
