Why? I just don't get it.

Hell, I saw two cars, yesterday, during one outing, with people wearing face masks in their cars. One where the guy was the only one in the car.

These people will never give up their filthy face cloth magic talismans even after Covid is gone or faded into yet another flu strain. Confused

It's bad here with the masks, I don't understand it. People in cars by themselves, walking their dogs in fresh air, little kids, double masks, we got them all.

I was grocery shopping tonight and I saw over a half dozen people with masks on but not covering their noses. Another dozen+ with ones with obvious gaps between their faces and masks, people with the one way valve masks, and a lady with her mask on upsidedown with the metal nose thing under her chin.

I just want to punch some of these people, or at a minimum embarrass them for their stupidity. If you think a mask is the right choice to make, then buy N95 masks and use them once. That dirty ass ill fitting mask isn't doing a damn thing, and the uncovered nose thing, WTF?

I keep getting more angry by the day. Why can't people use logic?

My work sent me an email saying I haven't uploaded my vaccine status yet, that's correct and I'm not going to until you put in writing that you will fire me, then if I do decide to share my medical information it will beat 23:59 on January 4th.

Fuck all of this shit.

Lots of mask still being worn around here.

We all know that the N95 is the best option for masking up. When this first started we were mislead about mask wearing and told any mask is fine. Homemade and basic cheap surgical mask are not capable of stopping the droplets. I think everyone would agree with that.

Now the N95 can be easily bought and worn. So if a person is truly concerned or has legit underlying health issue. Why are they not wearing a N95? People spend thousands on everything to have the best option available, I guess that doesn’t apply to publicly display your compliance.

I know this subject has been bitched about a thousand times now in this thread but dear lord, I just can't get over these masks.
Its not just about the choice to wear one or not. Its about a large part our society that can't use just a little critical thought about why they are doing something.
Still today, I see people go into a restaurant and put the mask on to literally walk 4ft to a table.
No thought, no question, just absolute obedience.
Fear has turned their minds to mush, just imagine what people would do if we ever really had something to be afraid of. God help us.

It's not too crazy around here for masks.
It seems to depend where you go - no masks on people outside, very few seen in Home Depot, grocery stores or Costco but a lot of masked shoppers at Kohls.

My wife actually saw a woman at Kohls wearing a gas mask. Roll Eyes

Yup. Along with the aforementioned wearing one out-of-doors when you're the only one around or in the car when you're the only one in the car.

Then there are the people that wear a mask such that their nose isn't covered. Just what do those people think the mask is accomplishing?

Lots of masks around my area still. All ages and even when outside and alone. Those of us here on Sig Forum live in a bubble of sanity. It is easy to forget the influence media has and the fear they are creating. Those masks make people feel safe, however unrealistic.

It's been kinda funny to track the whole mask thing in the hippy-assed town where I live.

A year ago, triple masks would gain people's admiration. Now servers in restaurants and people who went to the trouble of making "pretty" masks are almost the only ones you see wearing masks in public.

The city and county governments are still rabid about masks, etc., but you don't see any real enforcement efforts.

I think burnout may be working in sanity's favor.

Around here, the people still wearing masks can be associated with particular groups. Regular, ordinary, folks have pretty much opted out at this point.

The Lancet: Community transmission and viral load kinetics of the SARS-CoV-2 delta (B.1.617.2) variant in vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals in the UK: a prospective, longitudinal, cohort study

Background

The SARS-CoV-2 delta (B.1.617.2) variant is highly transmissible and spreading globally, including in populations with high vaccination rates. We aimed to investigate transmission and viral load kinetics in vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals with mild delta variant infection in the community.

Methods

Between Sept 13, 2020, and Sept 15, 2021, 602 community contacts (identified via the UK contract-tracing system) of 471 UK COVID-19 index cases were recruited to the Assessment of Transmission and Contagiousness of COVID-19 in Contacts cohort study and contributed 8145 upper respiratory tract samples from daily sampling for up to 20 days. Household and non-household exposed contacts aged 5 years or older were eligible for recruitment if they could provide informed consent and agree to self-swabbing of the upper respiratory tract. We analysed transmission risk by vaccination status for 231 contacts exposed to 162 epidemiologically linked delta variant-infected index cases. We compared viral load trajectories from fully vaccinated individuals with delta infection (n=29) with unvaccinated individuals with delta (n=16), alpha (B.1.1.7; n=39), and pre-alpha (n=49) infections. Primary outcomes for the epidemiological analysis were to assess the secondary attack rate (SAR) in household contacts stratified by contact vaccination status and the index cases’ vaccination status. Primary outcomes for the viral load kinetics analysis were to detect differences in the peak viral load, viral growth rate, and viral decline rate between participants according to SARS-CoV-2 variant and vaccination status.

Findings

The SAR in household contacts exposed to the delta variant was 25% (95% CI 18–33) for fully vaccinated individuals compared with 38% (24–53) in unvaccinated individuals. The median time between second vaccine dose and study recruitment in fully vaccinated contacts was longer for infected individuals (median 101 days [IQR 74–120]) than for uninfected individuals (64 days [32–97], p=0·001). SAR among household contacts exposed to fully vaccinated index cases was similar to household contacts exposed to unvaccinated index cases (25% [95% CI 15–35] for vaccinated vs 23% [15–31] for unvaccinated). 12 (39%) of 31 infections in fully vaccinated household contacts arose from fully vaccinated epidemiologically linked index cases, further confirmed by genomic and virological analysis in three index case–contact pairs. Although peak viral load did not differ by vaccination status or variant type, it increased modestly with age (difference of 0·39 [95% credible interval –0·03 to 0·79] in peak log10 viral load per mL between those aged 10 years and 50 years). Fully vaccinated individuals with delta variant infection had a faster (posterior probability >0·84) mean rate of viral load decline (0·95 log10 copies per mL per day) than did unvaccinated individuals with pre-alpha (0·69), alpha (0·82), or delta (0·79) variant infections. Within individuals, faster viral load growth was correlated with higher peak viral load (correlation 0·42 [95% credible interval 0·13 to 0·65]) and slower decline (–0·44 [–0·67 to –0·18]).

Interpretation

Vaccination reduces the risk of delta variant infection and accelerates viral clearance. Nonetheless, fully vaccinated individuals with breakthrough infections have peak viral load similar to unvaccinated cases and can efficiently transmit infection in household settings, including to fully vaccinated contacts. Host–virus interactions early in infection may shape the entire viral trajectory.

Soooooooooooooooo the justification for vaccination mandates is what exactly? And given the numbers of vaccinated people who have been infected with Covid at this point, the "breakthrough" designation is getting a bit absurd.

Oh, look! Just in time for the Brandon Administration's deadlines for vaccine mandates for businesses, a new variant is discovered in S. Africa. I'm sure this has nothing to do with all the lawsuits against the mandates. And since the administration is pushing for all school aged kids to be vaccinated, it'll be discovered that this variant is especially deadly for kids.

Wouldn’t you just love to meet that Australian asshole face to face and taunt him over the vaccines failures? He might actually open the door to a serious ass kicking by putting hands on you. He’s that over the edge.
