It struck me that this shit came from a food market that is quite possibly 100% organic. Still, diabetes and heart disease are well in the lead, and will be for quite some time I suspect.

From CDC --
Early on, many of the patients at the epicenter of the outbreak in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China had some link to a large seafood and live animal market, suggesting animal-to-person spread. Later, a growing number of patients reportedly did not have exposure to animal markets, indicating person-to-person spread.

That's a bet I wouldn't take either, but those numbers are screwed by the population local demographic at this point. I would pay close attention to US sampled driven statistics only (once there's a statistically valid sample size).

How many Americans who get it die? Personally, I would exclude the people who live inside a ChiCom exhaust pipe and smoke ChiCom high-tar cigarettes like it was 1950. Sadly, they are at a terrible disadvantage from that, and the amount and quality of healthcare that they'll have once infected.

South Korea - 28:5,621 = 0.5

Iran - 92:2,922 = 3.1

Italy - 79:2,502 = 3.2*

Diamond Princess - 6:706 = 0.8

Japan - 6:304 = 2.0

Germany - 0:244 = 0.0**

France - 4:212 = 1.9

Spain - 1:193 = 0.5

US - 9:128 = 7.0*

Singapore - 0:110 = 0.0

* Outbreak hit vulnerable populations in hospitals and nursing homes.

** Four serious cases reported, including the 47-year-old with pre-existing condition at the root of the North Rhine-Westphalia cluster who was quickly put on life support.

Got five cases in Berlin by now, all unrelated; they seem to have caught it separately on trips abroad. First was a 22-year-old man who had suffered from flu symptoms for two weeks, but only was admitted to hospital Sunday when he developed a fever and disorientation after a vaccination for an upcoming trip. He tested negative for influenza and was discharged after initial treatment. However, the hospital is now routinely testing possible influenza cases for COVID-19, too, and that test came back positive late in the evening. About 60 contacts have been identified for him alone, including the complete ER shift who handled him without protection (and thus are now out for the next 14 days).

No panic buying here so far, and I've seen only two face masks outside medical practices this week; one on an Asian lady, which isn't too unusual at other times. However, there are shortages on masks and disinfectants reported, and I heard a doctor lauding a staffer for ordering the latter along with the former when it was still easy while I was in for my regular skin cancer screening yesterday. The government has now actually banned export of masks except for coordinated international aid measures.

As I posted earlier, there is no way to project that. The denominator is completely unknown. At this point, the confirmed cases are among those who were sick enough to prompt testing in the first place. Many times that many thought they had a cold, recovered and were never tested.

This selfish asshole broke self-quarantine, while awaiting test results, to go to an event. The media protects his identity as they are compelled to. However, anyone who breaks quarantine and endangers the public should be identified and should forfeit their right to medical privacy for this specific condition in the interest of public safety. He should also be fired from his job immediately.

Any of his business associates at the event that contract the virus should sue his ass.

Coronavirus patient ignored self-isolation order to go to business event

A hospital worker who became New Hampshire’s first coronavirus patient had been ordered to self-isolate — but went to a college’s business event instead, health officials have revealed.

The selfish Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center staffer showed symptoms after returning from a trip to Italy, and was told to stay home while awaiting the test result, which came back positive Monday, health officials said.

“The first patient, despite having been directed to self-isolate, attended an invitation-only private event on Friday,” the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) warned in a release.

Having defied the first directive, the hospital worker was “issued an official order of isolation” after officially testing positive on Monday, officials said.

A close colleague of his at the hospital then became the Granite State’s second confirmed case on Tuesday, their hospital confirmed.
It left health workers scrambling to contact attendees at the event in neighboring Vermont to tell them to “follow the recommended 14-day self-isolation,” the service said.

Dartmouth College emailed staff and students to confirm that the patient went to the event run by its Tuck School of Business. It was not immediately clear how many others were at the event.

“An investigation of those who were in close contact with that individual is underway and all close contacts have been notified,” the college co-chairs wrote in the warning.

“At this time, there are no Dartmouth students considered to be close contacts,” the email said while conceding it was a “stressful time for many people in our community.”

The event was held at a popular Vermont music venue, the Engine Room in White River Junction, which said in a Facebook post that it had “a professional cleaning company coming in to take care of this.”

“We just want to let the public know we are taking this seriously and following all the recommendations of the VT & NH Health Departments,” the venue stressed.

The first patient, from Grafton County, had suffered “fever and respiratory symptoms” after returning from Italy, the health care officials said.

Dartmouth-Hitchcock hospital then confirmed Tuesday that the second positive case was also a worker there, but insisted both men “had no contact with patients.”

“This patient was a close contact of the first identified patient and had gone into quarantine,” the hospital said in a statement.

It was announced yesterday that Fiat Chrysler has suspended international and domestic travel that is not critical.

My company just made a similar announcement: Travel should be limited wherever possible. Any employee can refuse any travel request at their discretion.

But hey, don’t let facts get in the way of the panic.

I really wish some of y'all would stop raising this straw man. It's getting old.

The big concern, echo'd even in the hype-it-beyond-all-reason "news" media, isn't the mortality rate, but the infectiousness and the potential hit on services and the distribution network.

As others have stated, It’s not the disease itself that’s the biggest issue. It’s the social disruption and interrupted supply lines and services that’s gonna be the problem if everyone gets sick and quarantined. I.e. truck drivers, medical professionals, cops, supermarket workers etc...the glue that holds civilization together. Americans are not used to being uncomfortable and there’s always the possibility people will freak out and turn violent.

As stated previously, I work for one of the worlds largest medical distribution companies. Most of the medical supplies they distribute to American hospitals comes from China. From gowns and gloves to lifesaving medications and equipment. We should probably see some shortages in the next few weeks.

Global distribution of healthcare supplies isn't a supply-on-demand situation. There's a 8 to 10 month backlog of supplies in transit at any given time so your projection as far as horizon shortage is way off. You're also not taking into consideration the impact of the disease as a function of working age, co-morbidities, etc. and if it dramatically spreads here in the U.S., I doubt it will be worse than the annual Flu based on the scientific and epidemiology data.

Hey Dakor...I’ll let the burn patients I’m trying to get wound care supplies for right now know this. The current lack of wound care and other supplies is starting to become an issue in the space I work in.

It seems like he could be (and probably ought to be!) charged with reckless endangerment or something similar, too.

Supposedly there's a guy in Westchester NY that was walking around for the past three weeks with respiratory symptoms and has now tested positive for Corona Virus. If true, I would have to think he's infected a whole lot of people.

My company has several resources in China inside the quarantine as well as one resource who tested positive in Croatia....he went to a football game in Italy Roll Eyes

We have limited all international travel and had to cancel all the international attendees to a leadership class this week...roughly 60 people.

I am leaving today for a personal holiday and "might" have to self quarantine along with my wife depending on what happens in the nest 2 weeks .....fun fun

Regarding precautions we are taking....yes I am bringing masks and goggles but the main thing is A LOT of hand sanitizer in our bags.

My main concern is going though Heathrow as the countries we are visiting have 0 to 3 people so far who tested positive...and for most of the trip we will be in the mountains in a village with approx 3000 residents.

Here is an EXCELLENT website that shows confirmed cases by country and even area (in China anyways), total number recovered, and deaths on a world map and statistics.

https://www.arcgis.com/apps/op...40299423467b48e9ecf6

I was also told that it came from a Chinese food market and from some strange animal most humans don't eat, I think bats. I was also told once you get coronavirus and recover, you can't get it again in your lifetime (like chickenpox) but you always have a trace of it in your body.

Washington state governor Jay Inslee just had a radio interview where he stated that he was seriously considering making it illegal to hold large public gatherings. He specifically included "political rallies or gatherings" in his list of activities that would include. Never late a crisis go to waste.

Global supplier India curbs drug exports as coronavirus fears grow

https://www.reuters.com/articl...s-grow-idUSKBN20Q0ZZ

India, the world’s main supplier of generic drugs, has restricted the export of 26 pharmaceutical ingredients and the medicines made from them, including Paracetamol, a common pain reliever also sold as acetaminophen, as the coronavirus outbreak plays havoc with supply chains.

The Indian government urged calm and said there were enough stocks to manufacture formulations for two-to-three months.

The government’s list of 26 active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and medicines accounts for 10% of all Indian pharmaceutical exports and includes several antibiotics, such as tinidazole and erythromycin, the hormone progesterone and Vitamin B12.

It was unclear how the restriction would impact the availability of these medicines in the countries that import from India and also depend on China. In the United States, for instance, Indian imports accounted for 24 percent of medicines and 31 percent of medicine ingredients in 2018, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn told U.S. senators on Tuesday that the agency is working to determine how the restrictions will affect the U.S. medical supply and the effect on essential medicines.

The FDA last week announced the first coronavirus-related drug shortage in the United States but declined to name the drug in question. Hahn said on Tuesday that drug was in shortage because of a lack of materials needed to make the API.
