Dr. Anthony Fauci on Wednesday said that a Gilead Sciences study showing potential for treating the coronavirus with remdesivir was “quite good news.”

“The data shows that remdesivir has a clear-cut significant positive effect in diminishing the time to recovery,” Fauci said.

The NIH announced Wednesday that the data from a clinical trial showed that hospitalized patients with advanced coronavirus who received remdesivir recovered faster than similar patients who received a placebo.
Fauci said that the trial was “highly powered” with over 1,090 individuals on hospitalized patients with the coronavirus and said that the data showed “a very important proof of concept.”

“What it has proven is that a drug can block this virus,” he said.

Fauci also criticized a Lancet published study from China showing that there were no significant results from remdesivir.

“It’s an underpowered study,” Fauci said. “I don’t like to poo-poo other studies, but that’s not an adequate study and everyone in the field feels that.”

Fauci said that the Federal Drug Administration was already working with Gilead Sciences on approving a drug, but could not offer a timetable for when it would be available on the market.

“We think it’s really opening the door to the fact that we now have the capability of treating, and I can guarantee you, as more people, more companies, more investigators get involved it’s going to be better and better,” Fauci said.

I know the 16yr old driver is probably to blame, and maybe the kids were all home schooled anyway, but I would think there is a pretty good chance if Iowa schools were open, these 5 and 10 year old girls would still be alive and 5 other minors wouldn't be injured. I wonder if this goes on Iowa's COVID-19 body count.

JAMAICA, Iowa —
New information has been released in a Dallas County crash that killed two children and injured five others Tuesday.

The Iowa State Patrol said the single-vehicle crash happened around 11:35 a.m. near Jamaica.

According to Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Alex Dinkla, a minor driving with six minor passengers crashed a 2014 Toyota Sienna. Dinkla said the driver, 16-year-old Michael Crane, lost control of the vehicle and struck a field entrance.

Iowa State Patrol crash reports show 5-year-old Claire Brown and 10-year-old Lindsay Brown died in the crash. Seven-year-old Eli Brown, 11-year-old Katelyn Brown, 11-year-old Randy Seratt, 5-year-old Carter West and Michael Crane were injured.

The Iowa State Patrol said the injuries range from serious to life-threatening. There has been no update on patient conditions.

The crash remains under investigation.

Pork chops are the new Angel Soft

My wife went to the grocery this morning and it seemed fairly normal stock wise. The noon news on our local stations all ran stories about the beef/pork/chicken shortage. It will be impossible to find they claim.

Well surprise surprise self fulfilling prophecy. Curiosity got the better of me about an hour ago and I went to the store nearest me. All the meat section was empty save a few packages of various odd parts of various animals.

Astounding

There was, however, plenty of toilet paper

Previously I just distrusted the FBI now I am adding Police to that list.
The actions Police have taken during this COVID-19 pandemic are unbelievable. Mad

Police, please begin to police your ranks, before public confidence is totally destroyed.

Notice that these two authoritarian officers were well within 6 feet of each other at the beginning of the video.
Who do we report this violation to ?

Just announced that costco will require masks to enter the stores. There's no standardization of masks so how is this helpful? A few wraps of unobtanium toilet paper maybe?

This on top of their other restrictions...

My silver lining. Before, when I went out for walks, many people were assholes who didn't know how to share the sidewalks and trails. Often groups would work side by side and hog the width of the walkway.

Now, I can walk. And I don't give a fuck so I don't show any signs of moving. Now, groups of people will cross the street or walk in the street when coming up on me. I get the sidewalk to myself now. Around here, I'm not concerned about catching the virus. And I'm pretty sure I couldn't catch it if I tried around here. So, it's all win for me.

Can I come in to your store to get a mask to come in to your store?

More like, can I come into your store to cancel my membership? Because that’s what I’m doing. This shit is beyond ridiculous.

Maybe next time.

If employees want to wear a mask...great. if customers want to wear one...that's fine too but I'll be damned if will go into anyplace that says I MUST wear one to come in. Mine will be cancelled at once.

Our local gun range/gun club is re-opening with this requirement. Stand outside until members ahead are served, even if they're "just looking". Members must stand 6 feet apart (inside is just 8 feet from door to counter), only 4 allowed on indoor range with 8 lanes, everyone to wear a mask. Employees behind a sneeze guard and mask. Instead of handing them a membership card, yell your name so anyone else can use your membership. No mention of gloves...yet. I'll let my membership expire until common sense returns.

I was in a Costco Monday here in PA, and saw a man wearing the camo version of this. I laughed as it was really PA he was ridiculing, not Costco. They are just following what is required and I remain strongly against the over reach here.

The big tech companies don't really need their employees to return to the office since the vast majority can work remotely from home. The few that work on physical hardware need to be onsite but that's a small minority.

I thought that was insightful since they're not clamoring to return to work.
