Yet another example of Baltimore "justice": On April 12,2015 when Freddie Gray was arrested, Gray was with Davonte Roary. Both Roary and Gray ran from the cops. Gray was caught; Roary was not. Three months later, yards away from the spot where Gray was arrested, there was a shooting. Roary had agreed to sell $200 worth of heroin to a group driving from Maryland's Eastern Shore to Baltimore, according to court records. When the group pulled into the alley, the driver and Roary discussed the transaction and got into a disagreement, after which another male approached the car, pointed a gun at the driver and said "I want your money," records show. The driver began to pull away when a witness said Roary ordered the other man to "shoot him" and the man shot the driver in the back, according to the records. The man survived, driving himself a few blocks away to call for medical help. That evening, police tracked the phone used to arrange the drug deal to Roary's house in North Baltimore. The driver and another witness positively identified Roary as the dealer who met with the Eastern Shore group, records show. Roary has been in jail awaiting trial since August. Roary pled guilty today to conspiracy to commit murder. What was his sentence ? He walked out of jail. Though the conspiracy conviction carries up to a life sentence, Roary's deal allows him to leave jail with 15 years suspended and five years of probation. A minor add to the Roary story. A week after Gray was arrested in April 2015, police came to arrest Roary at his home on unrelated assault and theft charges, which were later dropped by the prosecutors.

No doubt, they're letting murderers walk free, but completely crucifying the cops. Wow. Such a sad state of affairs.

This is just my speculation, but think about this: If Freddie Gray was carrying dope that day, Roary would probably have known. I wouldn't put it past these corrupt prosecutors to keep Roary quiet about what was really happening that morning.

They have force him to testify. Cant he be a hostile witness? IANAL but this has to the most ridiculous thing Ive ever heard. "The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits." Albert Einstein

Jeez if all your get is probation for murder, what's the point of it even being illegal? Maybe Obama can review the sentences of the murderers like he did the crack dealers and set them all free too. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

http://www.baltimoresun.com/ne...-20160311-story.html At the Maryland state level: A senate committee has killed a proposal that would have fined police officers $10,000 if someone was hurt while riding in the back of a police van. The legislation was spurred in part by the death of Freddie Gray, who prosecutors say suffered a fatal spinal cord injury in the back of a Baltimore police van last year. Six police officers have been charged in his arrest and death. The bill would also have required police to put seat belts on all prisoners during transport. During a late night session on Thursday, the Senate Judicial Proceedings committee deadlocked, 5-5. "Nobody's saying that we don't think that people shouldn't be seat-belted in," Zirkin said in an interview Friday. "It's just that it was illegal to do it that way. ... We debate bills on the legal merits." Zirkin said the proposal pushed by Sen. Joan Carter Conway, a Baltimore City Democrat, seemed to violate state law by imposing a civil fine on someone for actions taken on the job. *********************** keep in mind the 6 Baltimore officers are being prosecuted for not putting a seat belt on Freddie Gray. I don't know of any other county or city in Maryland where seat belt use in prisoner vans is required. A review by The Baltimore Sun in May found most jurisdictions in the state use transport vans that don't have seat belts At the moment it appears the next trial date is 13 April with the case against LT Rice. There may be a complete reshuffle of the trial dates after the latest Court of Appeals ruling.

Not directly related to Freddie Gray, but Baltimore police on patrol saw two men (father and son) get out of a car. One had a rifle and the other had a pistol. They appeared to be getting ready to shoot some people across the street. the men were Matthew Wood and Kimani Johnson Two officers fired 56 shots to kill both of the men. (Not clear exactly what transpired between seeing them and the shooting. The two men did not fire a shot) It's unclear how many people the men were targeting, but Davis said Wood and Johnson were moving toward a group of people across the street. The rifle was loaded to capacity with 25 rounds and the handgun had seven rounds, police said. Before the officers opened fire, Davis said, Wood and Johnson said "something threatening" to the group across the street, witnesses told police. The two men were believed to be affiliated with the Black Guerrilla Family gang, which is believed to be fueling much of the violence in some city neighborhoods. Johnson was free on $100,000 bail awaiting trial for a handgun charge Wood was on probation after receiving a sentence of time served — about three months — in October for a gun charge. The charge Wood pleaded guilty to should have brought a mandatory sentence of five years in prison without parole, but Judge Alfred Nance said prosecutors agreed to "step off" that requirement, according to a tape of Wood's plea hearing. How did the police commissioner and prosecutors respond ? The police commissioner Kevin Davis said: "If not for the Baltimore Police Department yesterday, we could have had a mass shooting on our hands, where several innocent lives could have easily been taken," "We don't run from bad guys with guns. We engage them," Davis said. "We fired 56 rounds yesterday until this threat was eliminated." http://www.baltimoresun.com/ne...-20160401-story.html The state prosecutors on the other hand, were frustrated by the officers' refusal to give statements, and ordered that they be videotaped being read their Miranda rights and declining to answer questions. Michael Davey, police union attorney, said it was the first time he could recall such a move by prosecutors in 16 years working with the police union. "These guys should get a medal for what they did, instead of being treated like criminals by the state's attorney's office," Davey said. Marilyn Mosby is the Baltimore State Attorney. http://www.baltimoresun.com/ne...-20160401-story.html ********************** What Baltimore officer in his right mind would tell Mosby's people anything they didn't have to ?

Basically when Mosby does not get her way, everyone is going to suffer until she does. She is losing trials she should not have started, her career is on a downward spiral, and everyone knows Mosby is a loser. She will be spiteful and mean until the end, but this will only kill her career more firmly. Nothing but a spoiled brat with a lot of power. -c1steve

Another officer being forced to testify http://www.baltimoresun.com/ne...-20160404-story.html Prosecutors are moving to compel another police officer charged in the death of Freddie Gray to testify against a fellow officer, filing a motion that asks the court to order Officer Garrett E. Miller to testify at the upcoming trial of Officer Edward M. Nero. The Baltimore State's Attorney's Office has not previously signaled that they planned to call any of the other officers to testify in the cases, but defense attorneys have said forcing Porter to testify would open the door to such a scenario. Miller and Nero were on bike patrol on April 12, 2015 in Gilmor Homes when they said Gray, 25, ran unprovoked. He was chased and detained, and then arrested after police said they found a switchblade knife clipped to his belt. Nero's trial is 10 May. Attorneys on both sides could find no prior cases in Maryland where defendants with pending charges were compelled to testify against their co-defendants, but prosecutors argued that Porter's Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination would not be violated by requiring him to testify under a grant of limited immunity.
