So according to Jesse Watters video: 1. There is a victim that was hit. Might be a 52 year old non-citizen if you know what I mean and was compensated by the insurance company for the loss of the car. 2. Paul Pelosi was involved in as a driver in a crash many years ago where his brother was killed. Very interesting. Unflappable Enginerd |
There are various models out there. The most "popular" unit locally doesn't require the humming part. Most people I've seen that had that unit hated the damn thing. There are several safeguards built into these things. The unit I've talked to a friend about says when you blow: 1. It measures the flow rate, and you have to blow pretty hard. Balloon, doubt it. 2. It measures the moisture, your breath has some range of moisture it must fall within. 3. It measures the temperature, your breath has some degree of temperature it must fall within. 4. It measures the BAC, which must be below 0.02 (generally) for the car to start. 5. If you blow over 0.02, but less than 0.06, you can retry after 15 minutes. 6. If you blow over .08, it locks you out for 2 hours (manufacturer/units vary) *Interestingly, the unit DOES NOT display any data, including the BAC it reads. You have to blow to start the car, and then again within 5-10 minutes while driving, and every 30 minutes thereafter. If you stop the car for more than 5 minutes, that sequence starts all over again. If you don't blow within 4 minutes of being prompted while driving, your engine shuts off. My friend that administers these units locally does the following each month: 1. Customer brings in the unit to get all the blow data read. 2. Calibrates the unit. 3. Sends the data to the vendor, who forwards it to the city/municipality/governing authority. The newer models are actually cellular, and report the data in real time, but you still have to take the unit in for calibration once a month. __________________________________ NRA Benefactor I lost all my weapons in a boating, umm, accident. http://www.aufamily.com/forums/

What is the soup du jour? |
At one point in time I worked in a small shop where half the employees had the hum interlock device I referenced. They hated it, lol. They dang near hyperventilated trying to get unlocked. This was about 10-years ago, though. I am sure it has changed simply because you have to build a better mousetrap, or else workarounds will be found.

I don't think you blow that hard through a kazoo. Now, alto and baritone sax, yeah. ____________________
