I agree standard punishment. The interlock device is not cheap and really stands out in the car. I hope they required AA attendance. That would certainly humble him a bit and he might learn something. The classes offered by most states are not very worthwhile.
He may have a lot of money, but most wealthy people hate to part with a dime for things like this.

He got the cruelest punishment of all - no reprieve (aka prison or jail) from that hateful shrew of a wife.

Well, I don't think he looks that pretty, but I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Wink

"You recklessly put innocent lives in danger, and I have no choice but to make an example of you," said the judge at the sentencing. "In five days' time, you will fly out to Washington, D.C., and move in with your wife Nancy. May God have mercy on your soul."

It appears he was advised to 'take the medicine' and get on with putting this behind him; any fight or resistance given the high profile of his family would likely reveal more embarrassing events or, incidents, not to mention more ire against them. He got a pretty standard 1st time DUI sentence.
I've heard total monetary cost for a 1st time DUI in CA is about $10,000 total: legal fees, fine/penalties, cost of the interlock, DMV admin fee's, tow fees, impound fees, the court programs, etc.

I would like to see the 90-day drunk driving program attendance sheet.

I figured that some procedural error would have gotten the case dismissed.

But this from Fox News shows that he tried to pull the privilege card game at the scene:

Pelosi allegedly handed officers his driver’s license and an "11-99 Foundation" card when they asked for his ID, according to the documents. The 11-99 Foundation is a California Highway Patrol charity that supports officers and provides scholarships for their children

Well, since Paulie P's net worth is estimated around $300M (thanks to years of insider trading no doubt), he probably carries more than that in his pocket as walking around money.

Paulie P's P-car is on the auction block near me. I don't fancy myself a body repairman, but I do like the color combo.

I do like the dash claiming to be "offroad."

$10K is the estimate I hear all the time for a first DUI.

For the knowledgeable… How did these alcohol ignition interlock systems work?

Couldn’t you just fill a balloon a few hours before you went out with your normal breath? Keep it warm. Or are they smarter than that?

^ wrt the interlocks…they can be defeated. I once saw a guy I wrote for dwi in his car. He had a passenger (minor) lean over and blow. I immediately pulled in behind him and began an investigation. Turns out he hadn’t stopped drinking, he figured out how to defeat the interlock. He had his kid blow for him…and he continued to drive drunk-with his kid…unbelievable. The judge got really pissed and sentenced he guy to the max.

I don’t know about a balloon or something similar…I do know the intoxilyzer takes a deep lung sample and can sense when you are nearing that threshold…I can only assume the interlock is the same.

Also, the person with it has to pay all the upkeep and installation and the visits from the techs who make sure it’s running properly. It’s not cheap.

Many people opted to just give the state their license for a year and ride a moped or found other drivers. Or they just drove on a revoked license.

One young man from Canada, tried to use his underwear as a filter. He thought that such cotton cloth will eliminate BAC containment. Silly him. However this is not the end, as another 59 year old man tried to fool breathalyzer with full mouth of feces. In both cases, these two were not able to start their cars. Sad.

As a part-time locksporter, I’m always curious on how things work. I don’t think I would try any of those solutions in searching for defeats/vulnerabilities. Eek

The makers of these devices have thought of all of that.

They have cameras. They have sensors that ensure the breath is blown at expected pressures and velocities. They have random re-tests - the machine tells you to pull over and retest at some random interval. A photo of you and a balloon, or some other person blowing into the machine will not pass muster. And then your probation deal is suspended and it is go to jail.

Yeah, you can't just provide air. You gotta blow like through a kazoo. Like a hum at the same time. I think some also snap a photo during every start.
