Unless I'm missing something, you've fallen prey to exactly the type of media sensationalism people are complaining about with the coronavirus.

Your number for "medical screw ups" appears to come from media reports on studies of iatrogenic deaths.

There are two problems, first, that 450,000 is at the upper end of the estimates made in the most pessimistic studies, and second, that iatrogenic deaths are not deaths due to medical error.

Loosely, iatrogenic deaths are deaths that occur as a result of medical treatment (whether an error was made or not, and whether best practices were followed or not) for an issue rather than from the issue itself.

Certainly, that includes deaths due to medical error. However, it includes a lot of other things that are a real stretch to call medical errors. If you get appendicitis, go into the hospital to get your appendix taken out (because you'll die if you don't), and get an antibiotic-resistant staph infection and die, that's an iatrogenic death. If you get strep throat, get prescribed penicillin for the first time in your life, and die of an allergic reaction, that's an iatrogenic death.

Was well stocked on frozen filet mignon/B/S chicken breasts, and about 7 meals of frozen veggies, and TP and Paper towels. So no worries there, have only hit the grocery store 1 time for fresh veggies and fruits last Tuesday. Usually we eat out 3-4 nights a week. Instead we ordered Hello Fresh and have 3 meals a week that are totally different than what we normally eat to take the place of restaurant nights and prolong the frozen food I have. That's been a nice little change of pace. That being said.

The stir craziness is setting in. I lost 80% of my business for the next 3 months. I have about 1.5 days a week of work. But lost 16 days of Captaining just out of the current 30 day period, which I enjoy. I'll be solvent, but I'm not liking it at all. Kind of depressed, the phone hardly rings with any business calls, and if it does it's others with the same business or vendors/subcontractors to cry/bitch about how slow everyone is. However, most people in my industry will survive, as the yachts still need maintenance, even if they're not moving. Kind of depressing actually.

I did buy 3 different gallons of interior house paint, 2 weeks ago in preparation. So the GF and I painted the living room and dining room with 1 gallon. Have the baseboards in living room/dining room to do, and a bathroom ceiling and a few other little projects......sprinklers.....a gutter down spout. Have been binge watching Breaking Bad again, then will switch to Ozark season 3. It's definitely a total change of pace, and boring/sad.

We are doing fine. Wife bought 18 lbs of Kirkland coffee, stocked up on a bunch of other stuff as well. We have no need to leave the house for quite a while (weeks?)

Don't live in a high density area, lots of trees and brush around. Closest road is about 150 yards down our driveway. Well off the main road, and limited traffic.

Hey! The wife and I went out to eat. Smile OK, we went to her favorite sandwich shop, Roy Rogers in Milford, OH. Not that far, maybe 18 miles or so. We took her white car, a 2007 VeeWee Eos. It was half full and we filled it with Premium. We're still on last years gasoline. It lives in the garage. I question the wisdom of parking a 12 1/2 year old car in the garage and leaving her new one outside.

Can't dine in, we bought at the drive through and then pulled into a parking space. Food tasted as good as ever. We ate and talked the same had we been allowed to eat inside. Then we headed home. Rivers around here are high, just short of flood stage. Interesting to look at. I don't go out much now. It was fun, or as much fun as old people are allowed to have.

Texted our favorite waitress. She's nice. She says she's bored. We may try to eat at her restaurant tomorrow evening. Going out to eat is fun. Who knew?

So I considered how far our money will go. As long as SS holds up, the answer seems to be forever.

I keep hearing about the increasing use of tests to determine if a person: 1. has the virus; 2. does not have the virus; or 3. had the virus and is immune. The problem I see with this is, although the tested person knows which category applies, the rest of us do not. I propose that persons in category 1 have their left thumb dipped in indelible red ink; those in cat 2 would get yellow; and those in cat 3 would get green. These inks wear off in about a month or less, so are not a permanent disfigurement (as a tattoo would be). The general public would be able to quickly identify which persons need to be carefully avoided (typically the red thumbs and unmarked ones).

It worked for Middle East elections--why not do it here?

My routine has been totally upended but in a good way to be honest. My son, daughter in law and grandson were supposed to go to China 3/1 - 3/15 but when the first word of this came out they decided to come here instead. Then, while they were here, things started going south in NY so when he had to go back they took me up on my offer for Mom & baby to ride it out here, so I’ve gone from Playboy Bachelor to Family Guy and that’s quite a switch. To be honest I really didn’t know my daughter in law all that well before and that’s certainly no longer the case. I now know why my son fell in love with her, and their little guy who I’d seen maybe 5 times for an hour or so previously has become my 15 month old best buddy and sidekick over the past month. While it’s tough on them to be separated from my son, here they have great weather and a quiet beach just across the road where they spend an hour or so each morning and afternoon running around and playing in the water, so they’re adapting to it pretty well.

So like I said, it’s a big change but good too at the same time. FaceTime has sure been a big help too.

Debt is funny. When you are loaded with it, you spend more freely, piling it up and paying it down periodically as cash flows into and out of your account. But when you are at -zero- small purchases become personal.

Still losing weight. Missing weekly pho with grilled chicken and fried shallots. No fast food as of late.

Definitely on the same page as a lot of people around me. I've been living with very little for several years. As others have voiced, 'social distancing' is a way of life to keep the clingers and users at bay, as well as focusing on what I see as important. Sure, I'm very generous with friends, but can sniff out one who wants to "see how I live". God forbid, anyone discovers I've been buying and selling T.P. by the dozen gross for decades as an investment.

Still ok here in GA

I will single handedly kill the Rona in the Southeast when I open this. They were trying to sell me on it's use as a hand sanitizer. Uhhh, that's not why I want it.

We are blessed since we both work in telecom so no layoffs...if anything it is getting busier.

Both working from home and that has gone well. I finished a lot of the small items I have been putting off since I have been living remote for the last year.

The 8yo is bouncing off the walls during the day but we have been getting out at night and bought badminton set which has been a huge hit.

Debating on going back to Indy to be with my crews, since we are deemed "critical" there are no issues on traveling and I feel it's what I should do now that my self quarantine is over (ok, over on Thursday).

Normally I cannot sit still so I have been going drives to get out and about...good way to do a quick recce of my area.

Over all we are good.

Sorry to hear so many hear are having issues....really, I think this whole shutdown is rather silly, but no one asked me Roll Eyes

Last week I was feeling good because I had a remodel job to take up some time, well that came to a screeching halt as the granite countertop place is closed downMadand I finished up the baseboard heat Friday.

My phone is just not ringing, unheard of in recent years. I was having fun building AR's, but tricking them out is going to have to be. put on hold.

Hopefully it will warm up so I can clean my massive pile of copper and brass for when the prices rise.

I pray for all of you out there!!

I'm way more stressed with the way people and the media(and certain unnamed employers) are dealing with Covid than I am the actual disease. It's a legitimate public health threat that is being weaponized for political purposes and ratings.

I'm tired and cranky, but I shall endeavor to persevere.

I have to admit that I broke down this evening.

I make my living selling to small businesses. Right before we sat down to dinner I saw the news conference that the shutdown was exited until April 30th. Even though I had a prime grade Ribeye, twice baked potato, sautéed mushrooms and Bordeaux in front of me, all I could do was push around my food. Then I started to breakdown, with my kids at the table, and I had to get up and walk away.

This shutdown will bankrupt many of my clients. People that have been my clients for 20 years. I do not think (hopefully) that it will bankrupt me, but things are going to be real lean for the foreseeable future. Depending on how long this continues, it might be real lean for many years.

I sit here and shake me head, unable to believe the world in which I live.

I’m sorry to hear that, man. You know my opinion on this fraud. Yesterday, Dave Ramsey said that the current stats were that we have lost 100 jobs for each case of the ‘rona. The damage to good people like you just is not right.

Holdem. Sorry man. No shame in what happened. Stress, real stress can almost act like cancer.......will rip you up before you know what is happening.

I found myself the other day pissed as could be at my supervisors benign email. Then acting irrationally when I approached him with it.

May have even damaged my work reputation.

My old lady has lupus, so I can't afford to expose her to this shit. It will kill her probably if I bring it home. Spending a shit ton on stocking up and avoiding stores via online shopping.

Point being it caught me off guard. Humans going to human. We all know this is an overblown reaction for political purpose.

Take care. Sorry for your stress, but don't let the bastards get away with killing you.

Be well. You are not alone

Financially I'm fine for now, which helps mentally. 6 months from now? Maybe a different story.

The worst part is that not going to work has completely wrecked my schedule and internal clock. I'm going to sleep at 4 AM and not waking up until noon or 1 PM. I've been able to see a few friends that I work with, keeping to a close group that won't infect each other, but after two weeks of this it's starting to get reeeeeeeeeally old. I may not be the most sociable person, but I do need human contact occasionally.

Reach out to people. Even if it's over Skype, Zoom, Facetime, whatever. We're not meant to be isolated animals.

I'm far more worried what the world and the economy will look like after months, not just a couple weeks, of this.

I've been fine up to now. Not been out of the house since the 10th. Neighbors help me out picking up a few groceries for me.

I managed to reschedule all my medical appointments out several months save one. I have a non-procedural oncology appointment on the 15th of April. I fired off an email on March 16th asking that my quarterly visit be made a phone or telehealth one. Granted that means no blood panels or cancer tests at Mayo in MN but I've been stable aka unremarkable for the better part of the last 2 years so.... But no answer which is very unusual.

Then on the 28th the Cancer Care Institute announced publicly that one of their staff tested positive and had contact with at least 100 patients as well as staff. They shut down doing a deep clean and placed 4 doctors and 10 nurses on home isolation. They are opening again tomorrow morning. I have no idea if my oncology staff is among those sent home. The CEO announced a redistribution of main hospital medical personnel to handle procedural patient care but still.

I do NOT want to have to visit to the clinic. I want my oral chemo drug Rx renewed though (I get the drugs from the Express Scripts specialty pharmacy via UPS under TriCare For Life). I intend to reach out again sometime this week and am concerned that I won't be able to contact someone I'm familiar with or get the appointment modified as I've described. My stomach is doing somersaults over this. I check 4 of the 5 "boxes" for vulnerability to this Covid19 crap as well as being a septuagenarian.

And FWIW not that I'm superstitious or anything but April has been the bane of my existence all my life. It is the month I had a heart attack and was informed of my leukemia diagnosis among other "milestones." I don't want to add contracting Covid19 to the list. Frown Frown Frown Frown Frown

Well I heard back from the oncology staff. Video or voice visit in lieu of an in person office visit will work. And labs skipped for this quarter. Yay! Big Grin
