Disney Magic Kingdom was open until 3 today, Tuesday 9/3/19. We were there at 8:30 am and left at 3 and all the kiddos had a blast. It’s open normal hours tomorrow 9/4/19 so we are going again.

There’s been a little wind and some rain tonight but anything from Dorian has been very, very minimal.

Cabana Bay closed their pools down yesterday and today “due to Hurricane Dorian” but it seems to have been a dumb move as it’s done virtually nothing to this area. Roll Eyes

I'm glad things are working out for you and your family.
You've been cautions and had a great time.

Pure Dumb Luck....Nothing else! Situation could have just as easily been an epic disaster / life changing tragedy!

Yes, the media and meteoroligists tend to overhype these Tropical Storms. You can roll the dice and take the chance they'll be wrong, but that certainly didn't work out well in the Bahamas!!

I'm not a gambler!

Thanks for the update, glad it’s working out.

My Son is in Vero Beach, I’ve been watching the storm all along. He has done some prepping, but not close to any evac, days off work.

It’s stayed off the coast a fair amount. The winds may of peaked about 45-50mph last Eve(in VB), with rain.

Had it been a full Cat 5 bearing down on Vero Beach, another course of action may of been called for.

We got to Disney this morning by 8:30 am and it was virtually empty and even now at 2 pm it’s much lighter crowds than normal, and weather has been fine. Cloudy and breezy but nothing more, the majority of rides have ZERO wait times, the longest so far has been 10 minutes.

We REALLY lucked out on this gamble I’d say.

It was a big gamble, saved by an advancing cold front and a retreating High over the Atlantic glad you got a good week at the attractions, with lower attendance it makes the trip even that much better.

BTW since you capitulated and came down were you able to get over to Shooters World for some Dadcation time?

To expand on that statement, all of us currently residing in Central Florida got 'really' lucky. You rolled the dice and threw a winner. Glad your trip worked out well for the family.

Glad to hear your vacation ended up being an epic success! If you're like me, you hate crowds and this just made it that much more enjoyable for you. I could live without Disney, but the wife cannot. But she does not ask me to live without guns, so I don't ask her to live without Disney.

We'll be there in November. In my opinion, the resorts are the safest places to be. I would think they build those things to stand up to the hurricanes and Disney is well prepared for any situation.

Are you taking advantage of the food and wine festival in Epcot? I hope so as I thoroughly did last year! The steak and soup in Canada, Ireland, creme brule in France. You have to try the chocolate truffle that is frozen in liquid nitrogen. Oh, the lamb chop in Australia too. The beer in Germany and Belgium. Pick up a "passport" to track your food trip.

No, no Epcot or gun shops this time. There’s 12 of us which includes 5 little kids and we did 2 days at Universal and 2 days at Magic Kingdom and that’s enough.

Just spending the day at Canbana Bay’s pools today recovering from walking a thousand miles in the past 4 days. My Saucony running shoes actually put me in agony by the end of Day One with two nice blisters on each little toe. Switched to Crocs and my feet were fine after that, believe it or not.

Headed home to PA tomorrow.

That's a hard trip with 5 little ones, but at least there's more adults than kids and at least you didn't have to wait for rides and wait for food.

Did you manage to get a Dole-whip while at Magic Kingdom? There are only a few places at Disney Orlando where you can get them.

Awe, that's a shame. I planned two meals worth of food last year. We spent a little less than a sit down supper and were full.

That's awesome. I need to remember to plan my next family's trip to Disney during peak Hurricane season. Haha. Good for you and your family, especially the kids.

I talked to an attorney today who goes to DW at least twice a year. He lives and breathes DW. He told me that DW is probably the safest place in Florida during a hurricane as all the buildings far exceed City code and are built to withstand a Cat 5 hurricane. They have their own power station and cooking facilities and are self sufficient.
