So my wife has been planning on getting an Aldi delivery to our hotel of breakfast items, snacks, beer etc and logged in tonight to Aldi and it’s telling her “sorry, no deliveries available until after Tuesday”

Yeah no shit woman, all the stores in that whole region are being stripped bare and you think Aldi is the exception? Roll Eyes

At this point I’m just hoping our flight is cancelled and we can head this debacle off before it starts.

My experience is that the airlines do not cancel until very late. I have flown out of Gulfport during a tropical storm and had the bad luck to be on Oahu just before a hurricane struck Kaui. They were still flying unsuspecting tourists into Kaui just before the storm struck.

Kindly, don’t talk about my wife like that.

She’s still my wife and I won’t have you making comments like that. Roll Eyes

You can cancel the airlines and just about everything right now, including Disney, without any penalties.

Seriously

I’ve ridden some of these out. Not because I wanted to but because I had to

And those were smaller

You don’t want people talking about your wife negatively, I get it, but people call it how they see it

Knowingly and willingly taking small children into the path of a storm that, at its worst, is nothing short of the finger of God upon the earth, because “we’ve had this trip planned for more than a year” is either utter stupidity or sheer lunacy....you choose

Not to mention, they’re your kids too.

Sack up and exercise some executive veto power...I’ve been married 22 years almost...under no circumstances would I let my wife take my children to a hurricane. Period. She wants to go, great, her life. But I have equal say in the safety of my kids. And, for the record, that goes both ways. She has the same veto power I do. And we have both used it

It’s time to use yours

Your trip will take care of itself, shortly.

Here you go, see if they have any room. There are plenty of excursions nearby, plus a beer garden or two for dad.

No way would I be putting my kids in front of this thing. If it came for us, riding it out- we’d see.
No way would I get on a plane and head into it with them.

Head to Cedar Point or somewhere instead.

Money < your family’s lives.

This storm has some serious potential for catastrophic damage.

Edit to add: I’d suggest coming to MA and going to 6 Flags for a couple days and then to Great Wolf Lodge which is about an hour east... but current tracks suggest a chance of it heading this way after hitting FL

Not sure why you asked for all these opinions if you won’t or can’t take advantage of them. It’s become folly at this point. It’s like volunteering to go to a concentration camp.

Yeah, this thread is like a trip through the Twilight Zone at this point. Eek

PASig, I say this with all sincerity, you need to cancel this trip.

As I said before, do not give your wife or in-laws any option. Call the airlines yourself, call Disney yourself, and cancel it all.

The airlines are not going to cancel your flight into Orlando. Tomorrow's weather will be fine.

This is a very slow moving storm. A very slow moving storm means more damage, because the wind lasts longer, and more flooding, because the rain lasts longer.

Your day here Saturday will be amazing. Sunday will probably be amazing. But then your trip is going to turn into the trip from hell.

Even if the hotel retains power, things will be closed for 48 hours due to the wind speed. And by things, I mean EVERYTHING because a curfew will be in place and no one will be allowed on the roads.

Have your wife and in laws read this thread. Have them note the location of the people telling you to stay away.

If this were a strong tropical storm and or weak Category 1, I would say, "Sure, come on down. You might lose a day, but it will not be too big of a deal." But a Category 4 hurricane is not to be trifled with. Wherever it hits will look like a war zone. And even when it weakens to a Cat 1, due to its slow movement, that place will not look much better.

PASig, can't tell you what to do, I can empathize with your wife and kids, it's a big trip, been planned, and everyone is up for the event, only to have mother nature intervene.

Imagine the dates of Labor day allow you to have the kids out of school and be off work saving a vacation day.

You simply need to watch the predictions and make the best decision you can prior to departure if you can't get everyone to agree it's wise to defer the dates.

If you do come here, I can tell you getting the supplies for your hotel room/condo is going to be difficult, stuff is still coming in to supply the stores but as of Sunday Evening/Monday AM those trucks aren't coming here, and shelves are being emptied now...

Good luck with your decision...

Link to Map

This is a google map of the likely direction, the last dot on Wed at 1 is just south of Walt Disney World It will be right over your heads...

On the plus side you can say you went to Disney and were blown away.... Razz seriously you could end up with a few good days before and Disney is well prepped to take care of the park and get it back open, so a few good days after.

Are you staying on property, I ask because transport to and from the Park could be difficult if you are off property.

That's a great question! I had just assumed you were staying on property. If you are not staying on property, that is even more reason not to come. The independent hotels, and even some of the chains, are going to be nowhere near as well prepared as Disney will be.

We are actually supposed to stay at one of Universal’s new hotels.

The plan is to get Uber from the airport to the hotel, and after I raised the possibility that there may not be any Uber people willing to drive us when we get there all I got was a hard stare.

If you decide to go, maybe rent a car and fill it with gas. Make sure you have the extra insurance. At least you will be able to roll if you need to.

Several transport options from MCO to Universal, since you are coming in Saturday you'll be able to get to the property most likely if the storm is still off coast, and staying there means you are IMO better off than being in a condo down the road with little support staff.

Its back and forth between parks, shopping, restaurants, grocery that will be hindered, I would bet that they shut down transport Sunday afternoon/evening, if you are on Property, then you have an advantage.
