Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

I am sure Major Villanueva has seen worse things than a 4th and 10. A true leader.

And he gives zero fucks about what the Steelers might do to him for breaking with the Coach (and we know they won't do shit)

I'm very happy Big Al stood by himself. Once I heard of the Steelers plan I texted a couple season ticket holder buddies hoping he would come out by himself. Today was definitely not the Steeler way. Shame.

The daily paper sporting section contained fishing and hunting, when I was growing up. Dove/Deer season opening day consumed the whole sport section. I never got into gladiator type sports myself.

In early gladiator games, players were not in charge. The crowd had influence/power through thumbs up/down. Today your wallet replaces the thumb gesture.

Players today receive enormous amounts of money and fame. Those whose role model consist of criminal behavior or hate for our country, are the NFL swamp.

p.s. staying in the locker room is designed to give fans a silly reason to say, oh all right, now flip that coin, we need entertained.

Sometimes when things are happening, it is hard to appreciate the total future impact.

My sense (guess) is that this protest movement and the strong support from management has moved the NFL into a new perspective as part of America.

This won't be a short term issue that gets resolved in a happy or generally acceptable way. The NFL has championed people that proclaim the police to be murderers . Goodell and company can song and dance all they want, but this is been an insult to the symbols and practices that bind us as a nation.

Goodell's proclamations about the NFL "unifying" America are absurd and 180 deg from the truth. I have a strong feeling it will not ever be the same again. Humpty Dumpty and all that.

Pretty sad actually. Many people enjoy (enjoyed ?) pro football and looked forward to big games and strong rivalries. This stain won't wash out though.

They now have their reasoning spread across the league. but I'd love to see them quizzed on these incidents they claim are the injustices. They have no knowledge of the investigations behind them.

The ones that should be protested usually go to a criminal phase. But in their mind, anyone involved in a violent crime and stopped is now a victim.

Yet did they protest when this happened?

NFL player's union: It's our "duty" to defend Ray Rice

The NFL suspended Rice indefinitely last week after surveillance video surfaced showing him punching and ultimately knocking out Janay Palmer, then his fiancée and now his wife , in an elevator at Revel Casino Hotel in Atlantic City on Feb. 15. The running back was later released by the Baltimore Ravens.

The league has been under fire for its handling of the incident. After initially suspending Rice two games back in July, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell admitted in late August that he "didn't get it right" and toughened the league's policy on domestic violence - instituting suspensions of six games for offenders.

NFL, Roger Goodell taking heat from players and fans over Ray Rice incident
While surveillance video had been made public in February showing Rice drag an unconscious Palmer out of the elevator, it was only after video emerged showing what happened inside the elevator that the league lengthened Rice's suspension. There have also been questions about whether the league had seen the second video prior to it surfacing publicly.

So being a thug is acceptable as long as you are a NFL player??

I have no doubt they dislike law enforcement. Sad part is that many I met years ago were the most stand up guys. I think today they feel they have to join this to be accepted.

I couldn't care less about the NFL or its players but monetarily and practically, does the NFL or Villenueva win more if I buy his jersey?

He signed a $24 million, 4 year contract extension this summer, so he can face the future with resolve.

I was curious to see the start of the Sunday night game. Then I watched the NBC Sports talking heads demand the President apologize. <click>

Surprisingly, ABC "News" neatly left out #3 and #6. To hear them tell it, the whole world is against Trump.

Wouldn't have anything took do with the fact NFL programming brings the networks big bucks, I'm sure.

Why not?

I was an avid 49ers fan until just a season ago. But, beginning with last season (2016) I stopped cold turkey. FNFL

Pulled the plug today. Haven't seen one score, update, highlight or commentary on the NFL.

I have watched 3 or 4 games a week during the season and followed a couple of teams very closely for decades. Up until this, I could look the other way, no one on any team I cared about was kneeling, but it doesn't matter any more. Not gonna support it any longer, don't know if there is anything they can do to get me back at this point. MLB lost me a couple decades ago with their player strike and I have not seen one MLB game since then and have no intention of ever watching another one.

I'll continue to follow college ball, I love the sport, but won't support the NFL any more.

If you watch a game you might as well kneel the next time you hear the national anthem, because by supporting the NFL in any way you are endorsing their actions.

I'm glad to report that several of the hardcore fans at work finally broke today. They've dumped the NFL.
