No matter what they'll do now, even if they make the players sing along loudly, I will never go back to my annual NFL Sunday ticket purchase again. They have lost that itty bitty annual revenue source from me for good.

They're doing this because the backlash have hit their pockets. Pure and simple. Next up the communities need to review any demands from teams for taxpayer-funded stadiums. Vote them down folks.

If Al Sharpton could have an interview on VPN and just stroke out 'cause he's so full of his righteous indignation, well, that would be peachy.

Yes...
Until every community does so... they will continue to be parasites on our communities.
Rich, spoiled welfare sucking parasites.

And the timing is such that this is coming to a head at the same time that Antifa claims to be launching their....whatever....on November 4th (assuming some level of authenticity here). If the players do continue to protest there could be more reason to stock up on popcorn.

I would imagine that the next Cowboy's game will have some viewers just to see if Jones will back up his words.

OTOH, this rule change might have let him off the hook.

Haha. One of Trump’s tweets referenced the massive tax breaks the NFL gets. It gets the same treatment the NCAA does, tax free status as the dollars are paid to the league itself. Now when that money distributed to the owners it is taxed, but it does receive massive tax breaks as Trump said. Let’s end that today!

In a national radio interview Monday night, former NFL tight end, coach and ESPN analyst Mike Ditka reportedly told Jim Gray on Westwood One’s pregame show that professional football players shouldn’t kneel to protest racism and police brutality because “there has been no oppression in the last 100 years” — and that a football field isn’t the place for a protest, anyway.

“If you want to protest… you’ve got a right to do that. But I think you’re a professional athlete, you have an obligation to the game,” Ditka said. “Respect the game, play the game, when you want to protest, protest when the game’s over, protest whatever other way you want to.”

Ditka, who is a fervent supporter of President Trump, went on to vocalize his support for Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who told players they’d be benched if they kneeled or sat for the anthem.

“I don’t care who you are, or how much money you make. If you don’t respect our country, you shouldn’t be in this country playing football,” Ditka said. “Go to another country and play football. If you had to go to somewhere else and try to play this sport, you wouldn’t have a job.”

When questioned by Gray about social injustice and some of the hurdles overcome by greats like Muhammad Ali and Jesse Owens, Ditka argued that he “didn’t know what social injustice” had been.

“Muhammad Ali rose to the top. Jesse Owens is one of the classiest individuals that ever lived. I mean, you can say, are you talking that everything is based on color? I don’t see it that way,” Ditka said. “All of a sudden, it’s become a big deal now, about oppression. There has been no oppression in the last 100 years that I know of. Now maybe I’m not watching it as carefully as other people.”

Following the interview, the Chicago Tribune pointed out instances of social injustices throughout the last century, including the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, to just name two. The outlet also pointed out that Ditka’s teammates on the Bears faced “discrimination and bigotry” in the mid-1960s so significant that the story was turned into the 1971 TV movie Brian’s Song.

Instead of a news article saying what he said, listen to the Ditka interview here.

NAACP to Jerry Jones

"This is not an issue about our flag, this is an issue about police brutality, racism, and the ability of members of the NFL whose communities are disproportionately impacted by police misconduct to peacefully say enough,"

"This is not simply a Black issue due to the number of white people also killed by police, but we know historically that when justice occurs for African Americans, all other members of our society benefit as well."

"Jerry Jones' comments are more than tone-deaf, more than misinformed and misguided - they are a public commitment by an NFL owner to violate his players' Constitutional right to free speech - one of the principles on which our nation was founded,"

"They are proof that athletes like Colin Kaepernick who have quietly and peacefully used their platform to protest violence against communities of color do so at their own peril."

*********

pause.
"This is not an issue about our flag"

Kaepernick: "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color"

****************

The owner also isn't violating constitutional rights as long as he's addressing the players' conduct in the workspace, First Amendment legal expert Chad Baruch

"He's a private employer so he's free to make any rules he wants that infringe on free speech," Baruch said. "He's totally unconstrained legally.

"[The First Amendment] protects your right to have opinions against government intrusion, not to exercise that right at work.

Just an incredible level of ignorance.

But I expect nothing more from the NAACP.

My girl is a football fan, not me, but this issue has been getting a lot of discussion at my house. My Girlfriend thinks she has come up with a great solution that should make everyone happy. When you are at work you must respect the fact that you represent the interests of your employer and not make inflammatory political statements. Profesional athletes wish to make political statements by not standing for the anthem. If a player chooses to make a political statement by not standing for the anthem, or giving the "Black Panther" salute or any form of protest, they should be allowed to, as long as they forfeit their pay for the game. If they care enough to offer up their paycheck they should be allowed to protest. I wonder how long the protests would continue?

Just as it should be. Using an epithet against your customer base isn't exactly behavior a MENSA candidate would drive their business into.

I'm sure they'll funnel donate the fine money to AntiFA or BLM.

The NFL has become a joke. Goodell has come out in support of the kneeling in the past. He and the league had many chances to stop this before it became an issue.

Now Goodell and the league wants to walk that back. Whatever. What I just don't understand is why a league/business that has seemed to be laser-focused on profits allowed this to happen. They had to know that a partition of their viewer would take offense to this. I have never worked anywhere where it would have been acceptable to protest something on company time. Then do it on a national stage where everyone would see and hear about it.

I hope the NFL gives Goodell the boot. Although I have a feeling if they do it will be with an insane compensation package.

I hope people continue to stop watching, stop buying and spending money on the NFL. I would really like to see instead of the salary cap going up it goes down in a year or two.
