I had thought the same thing yesterday.

I have a private range at the ranch and the occasional 30 round mag dump happens, things heat up very quickly even at semi auto rate of fire.

So far I have seen photos of 4 rifles and unless I am mistaken, only saw 1 with a slide-fire stock. So maybe some of the other rifles (not pictured) had slide-fire stocks as well and/or the other 3 in photos were illegally modified for full auto fire.

Whoever did those illegal mods is going to be in a heap of trouble.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. If those pics are real, I counted 14 neatly stacked 100 round surefire mags. From everything I have heard, he fired 1100 rounds in 5 minutes. It looks like he had at least 1400 more rounds, or mags that could carry 1400 more rounds. I doubt he neatly stacked the empty mags.

I wonder if he didn't anticipate the smoke detectors betraying his location so quickly.

My theory is that he melted the direct impingement tube, or warped the bolt making the gun useless.

I've done mag dumps before, and after 90 rounds, the tube will hit 900 degrees. That explains the gloves.

NRS 205.228  Grand larceny of motor vehicle; penalty.
1.  A person who intentionally steals, takes and carries away, drives away or otherwise removes a motor vehicle owned by another person commits grand larceny of a motor vehicle.

But, the first prosecutor to take a swing at him is going to be looking for a new career...in another state, maybe another country. That prosecutor better hope whatever hole Hayley Geftman-Gold is hiding in right now, that it's big enough for two.

What's the difference between theft, which usually involves intent to permanently deprive the true owner, and conversion, merely the unauthorized assumption and exercise of rights of ownership over personal property belonging to another?

I was only looking in the context of a criminal prosecution. I can't find a reference to conversion in the NRS (excepting non-applicable situations like appropriating something you're already renting or leasing against the lessor).

I can see how the original question would have civil implications as well. Of course, if we're only talking about a tort, then it probably has common-law definition and would not appear in the NRS.

He had to be rotating rifles. There is no other explanation. The Army did extensive testing using 30 round magazines and blew out the barrel of an M4 after about 650 rounds. This was with leisurely mag changes lasting around ten seconds each.

I’m not thinking of civil liability as much as noticing the definition in the statute seems lacking in the element of permanently deprive.

There would be civil liability, of course, if it were to be pressed, nominal even without specific damages.

One thing is prominent is that every elected official has the time to attend every press event. Congressmen, AG, Governor, Lt. Gov, Mayor, chiefs, sheriffs, sewer and water commissioner, quite remarkable.

We'll have to wait for the timeline to come out, but I wouldn't be surprised if he offed himself not long after shooting at the security guard who initially responded about 10-12 minutes into the attack. These mass shooters/attempted mass shooters often kill themselves as soon as they face any resistance, and he may have thought the cavalry was about to enter.

I want to hear a reporter say "why aren't you working? Shouldn't you be in meetings? Or doing something to help? Can maybe one of you answer questions and the the other half dozen get back to something productive?"

Oh, no. They surely don't want all those administrators and elected officials milling around, trying to "help". The more time they're tied up in press conferences, committee meetings, and PR photo ops, the better. That way, they're out of the hair of all the folks doing the actual work.
