Is it really stealing when the keys were in the truck and it was returned afterwards?

Two things come to mind- The first is that with each and every theft it requires some intent to deprive the owner of his/her property. And some states even require intent to do so with the intent to commit a crime. The second is that there would be ZERO appetite to prosecute on this. Z.E.R.O. No cop would touch this. No prosecutor. A jury would deliberate for about 20 seconds to come back with a not guilty verdict. As some have indicated, if the dude is active duty, he will be decorated for it. I would bet there would be Nevada truck dealerships standing in line to replace the truck for the owner, as well as giving a new truck to this brave Marine. Semper fi, brother. You did good.

2340, your information is incorrect. Let's put this to bed. A 270 dollar fee is not going to cause anyone to do what this guy did. Take another guess. This one is done.

NRS 205.228 Grand larceny of motor vehicle; penalty. 1. A person who intentionally steals, takes and carries away, drives away or otherwise removes a motor vehicle owned by another person commits grand larceny of a motor vehicle. But, the first prosecutor to take a swing at him is going to be looking for a new career...in another state, maybe another country. That prosecutor better hope whatever hole Hayley Geftman-Gold is hiding in right now, that it's big enough for two.

Not a conspiracy theory.. This guy lived his whole life normal. The whole time not scratching this itch he had. Maybe he was the kind of crazy that made his daddy, who the FBI called a psychopath look like an alter boy. The attacker was smart, driven and found him self successful in life, but no one knew his name despite him doing everything "right" So he plans an assault on a venue of an unprecedented scale, and completes one of the most horrific massacres in modern US history. He did it as a way to be remembered forever, even if it is as an absolute son of a bitch. This doesn't seem impossible to me. There doesn't have to be two shooters, medications, ISIS, or ANTIFA. Just a dick with a vantage point and a few rifles. ___________________________________________________ But then of course I might be a 13 year old girl who reads alot of gun magazines, so feel free to disregard anything I post.

What a messed-up day. I spent the day angry and hurt, disgusted at the politics heaped on this horrible, horrible event. I've been praying. Tonight, I'm cleaning my rifle. ______________________________________________ Carthago delenda est

Neither a lawyer or cop, so I don't know the answer. Would a DA need a complaint? Would the owner have to complain for charges to be filed? If so, it is hard to imagine the owner being enough of a selfish dude to complain rather than saluting said Marine.

Thinking about the number of rifles he had in the room and the rate of fire, perhaps he was rotating rifles for heat dissipation. ______________________________ “I'd like to know why well-educated idiots keep apologizing for lazy and complaining people who think the world owes them a living.” ― John Wayne

What's the difference between theft, which usually involves intent to permanently deprive the true owner, and conversion, merely the unauthorized assumption and exercise of rights of ownership over personal property belonging to another? Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown
