This strikes me as a desperate measure to regain some of their dwindling viewership. Personally, I'm against it. Let the teams and the NFL suffer the consequences of their actions.

You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless.

They had a chance to do this when it was the RIGHT thing to do. Now they are only doing it for the money.

So if both sides kneel, will the offsetting penalties result in replaying the National Anthem?

Ugh, that is so stupid and wouldn't even help. So, now their stupid ill-defined "protest" gets an element of "sacrifice" added to it?

3/4 season too late.

I stopped at week 2 last season. When bball season (NCAA) is over, I've focused on the NHL for the last 2 seasons. I enjoy the hell out of it too.

I think this is a good idea. Imagine - even if the players and owners don't care if they are assessed a penalty before they even take the field- the fans will howl. They will howl, and loudly.

To me, it’s simple. You kneel, you don’t play and don’t get paid for the game. If the team does not have enough players to safely play the game? Then the team forefits and everybody goes home.

That will fix the issue and I know it’s wishful thinking.

This is a stupid way for the NFL to play both sides. This is we are doing something but really not.

Players on teams will get together before a game. Someone on both teams kneels and you have offsetting penalties.

Watching the hockey playoff no one is pulling this crap and only a few players from any team where born in the USA. I have a feeling the coaches and owners, for the most part, would no put up with this crap even though more players than not are for other countries.

While money is a main driver for business decisions, business also identify with a set of core values that may negatively impact their money. For example, Chic fil A has always shut down on Sunday compared to other fast foods that are open 7 days a week. They've also opened on Sundays but only in times of crisis to feed people for free.

Other companies don't use animal testing compared to others.

People have a little more respect for companies who are consistent with their core values while in pursuit of money instead of simply pursuing money and spinning it off as a matter of principle.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I'm glad to see it. But I'd also like to see financial penalties to the player and team on top of the incurred loss of yardage.

I say just bag the Anthem as part of professional sports. Not sure why a contest of athletes needs to be associated with patriotism.

I'm not against patriotism of course - just saying the two don't need to be associated with each other.

A football game has nothing to do with love of country.

It has everything to do with making money for ownership, and I suppose is of entertainment value.

We don't play or sing the Anthem for other events like this. Rock concerts, movies, etc. Why do we carve out an exception for sports?
