Protective custody is no picnic. Not sure about Cook County. CPDsig would know. Some jails keep those folks on a special unit locked down 23 hours a day.

I would worry about 'food additives' at the very least.

The best part was that he had to go to jail right away. There was no "report in at this date".

As far as protective custody goes, meh. Not like he'll be at the Ritz. Isn't PC sort of like solitary anyway? Protect him from the other guys and protect him from himself?

This way he won't be able to regale his cellmate with his tales of derring do

Cook county is more like OZ, the series. Most inmates would prefer the general population to socialize with other inmates and pass the time. Jail if very loud,smelly and incredibly boring. It changes you forever.

"Special treatment" in jail usually means 23 hour a day isolation and one hour for exercise, if that. It's not all it's cracked up to be, or so I've been told by guys who've gone through it. And there may be a modesty smock instead of jail scrubs to wear if they do think he is the least bit suicidal.

I'm really indifferent, but community service is always an option. 8 hours a day picking up trash along the highway tends to humble people, and inmates don't even get a sharp stick to do it.

Hey, if he's put on suicide watch, at least he'll be on TV (closed-circuit)!

Want some real punishment? Put him in a cell that doesn't have a mirror!

Frankly, it is a damn shame that hanging him with his own noose wasn't an option.

He's far too much of a narcissist and a wimp to ever kill himself.

This outcome is better than I thought it might have been. I don't know if Jucey will learn anything from it......one can only hope. He deserves everything he got....and maybe a little bit more.

I'm sure with Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart and Cook County States Attorney Kim Foxx looking out for Smollett his stay will be as uneventful and as good as possible.
They will both be looking to Smollett with there hands out now, and when he is released.
