Thanks all.

I went to jury duty today and seemed to be OK for an hour and a half but in the courtroom I got very tired and got a bit of brain fog.

The judge was kind enough to excuse me before the selection process.

I feel bad having to be excused but I really couldn't concentrate.

This is one of those threads I have bookmarked, always cautiously optimistic when I open it, and after eight years, I’m still saying ”thanks” to God when I do.

So incredibly miraculously awesome to have you with us!

According to the ER paperwork, the diagnosis was a
Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA) Due to occlusion of right posterior cerebral artery (HC code).
Findings:
Brain: Acute infarct right territory involving the medial temporal lobe and anterior occipital lobe associated petichial hemorrage and FLAIR signal hypertensity.

Whatever that means.

When I was looking at the CT scan, the dark spot was about the size of a small woman's fist.

I'll be 69 in a month. Never thought I'd be here from 8 years ago. But I am.

What a strange journey but full of signs, wonders and miracles.

You had what's referred to as PCA stroke. The posterior cerebral artery (PCA) supplies blood to several areas of the brain, two of which were hit by O2 cutoff due to blockage in your case, part of the occipital lobe (back of the brain) and part of the temporal lobe (lower side of the brain). Your symptoms (visual, memory, recognization issues, headache) exactly reflect the damages to these areas.

You're a miracle baby! The Lord must have said, "Not today, lbj". Smile

It's absolutely insane and awesome, I'm glad you are still here and for the extra time you've had with the family.

it's a long 8 years but it seems you went through it with grace. God be with you.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Nice job kicking the strokes butt. Glad you came through without any major issues so many end up with.

Just a few months ago a long time family friend had a stroke. He ended up with some complications. Spend some time putting up extra railings and grab bars up at their house.

My dad always told me that one day I would wake up dead.

Fortunately not yet.

Everything just looks somewhat different than before.
It's like you don't have to study things visually in normal living because you already have a picture in your mind from the past.

It seems like I have to create new mental pictures of everything at this point.

It's not that I have forgotten those but my brain wants an update of everything I see.

It didn't used to be this way.
Ugh.

lbj, very glad to hear you doing so well after this significant stroke.
There's a general rule in stroke recovery: recovery can continue for 18 months after the stroke. During recovery your brain fashions new pathways around the now-nonfunctional brain tissue affected by the stroke.
You can see, you can speak, you can understand the speech of others. Wonderful. Praise the Lord.
